User-Defined Variable Descriions: _AudioPlay (Audio voiceover is currently inactive) _BadgePoints _Badges _BadgesEarned Used to determine whether audio voiceover is On or Off (played or stopped). The value is switched between On and Off based on the user selection of their audio preference using the buttons. Used to calculate the percentage of badge points achieved for displaying the Gold Leaf award badges. It is calculated as (_BadgesEarned/38). 38 is the total possible number of badge points. Stores which Gold Leaf badges have been awarded/displayed. This ensures that on each page, and the certificate, the appropriate badges are shown based on what this variable Contains. For example, if it contains [B1] then the first badge is displayed. A count of the points awarded. This variable is updated (+1) for clicking Monique, watching videos, viewing the Glossary, etc. Passing the Knowledge Check earns +2. _Calculated_Measurement The result of the conversion table on the Measuring Tools page, calculated as the user-entered Volume multiplied by the appropriate factor. _Character Used on the Welcome page and Summary page as a counter to determine which pose version of the Monique character to display. _Count Used on Survey Page 3 of 5, Question 6, this variable

This variable caures the current page name and redisplays it on the Note Entry popup. Will have a value of 0 or 1. When the Home button or Help button are selected the value is set to 1. This causes the Return to Last Viewed Page button to appear on the Navigation and Summary pages. Clicking Back or Next resets the value to 0. For each page this sets the text for the Additional Comments on the Lectora Features page. When a popup page has specific comments defined for it, this variable is used to restore the original page comments when the popup is closed. It is used on the Glossary, Recipe, Notes, and Features buttons. For each page this sets letter codes that determine which highlight rectangles are displayed on the Lectora Features popup. The codes are listed in the table below, as well as in the Lectora Features page object descriion. When a popup page has specific features defined for it, this variable is used to restore the original page features when the popup is closed. It is used on the Glossary, Recipe, Notes, and Features buttons. Used on the Note Entry Page, this variable is updated as keyboard characters are typed (-1) or removed by backspace (+2). It is a rough estimator as not every key is accounted for. The accumulated note texts separated by the heading Notes for <page name>: followed by [End] - - after each note is added. This is the variable linked to the Title Progress Bar. As each page is accessed for the first time, the variable is incremented and the progress bar moves forward. First - time access for a page is determined by the page s completion status equal to Not Started. Used on the Fruits page, this variable is used in the Show Tip action group to determine which tip to display when a tip hyperlink is selected.

The Hyperlink text uses an embedded On Mouse Click action to Go To the Next Page. Introduction (Mobile) G This introduction page uses Hyperlink text with an embedded On Mouse Click action to Go To the Next Page. Navigation Instructions GNR This page uses Shapes and Lines, Hyperlinked text actions, and Variables. In fact, the text you are reading right now is actually filled in uniquely for each page using a variable. And which features to highlight in the table above is also determined using a variable. Welcome BG The Hyperlink text uses an embedded On Mouse

6 Click action to Go To the Next Page. Monique is one of the many Character Poses located in the Stock Media Library. There is a special Set Character Pose action which allows a character to be changed from one pose to another (if desired). Click on Monique to try it. Summary BGRU Progress is displayed using Status Indicator objects. Status conditions are used to determine if all chaers are completed and prevent proceeding to the Knowledge Check until they are. Measuring Tools NR Many different Table styles are available to choose from, or you can define the borders and cell colors. The conversion calculator was built using Lectora s Modify Variable action to perform the necessary mathematics. Clicking on Monique uses the Display Page in Popup action to launch another page in the title. Basic Cookware CJ This is a Drag & Drop question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. Lectora lets you decide what action to take as feedback for a question. In this case, the feedback for each choice displays the appropriate text information. Cooking Appliances CGJRT This page features a Hot Spot question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. The question is evaluated when the student clicks the Submit button; a button made using Lectora s Custom Button Wizard. Using an action condition, the forward navigation (Next button) is hidden until the question

7 is answered. This page also uses hyperlinked text to launch streaming YouTube videos. (Hint: Watching the videos in this course earns you points towards Gold Leaf badges.) Dry Ingredients F Checkboxes are one of Lectora s Form Elements. Each Checkbox uses an On Select/Change action to hide or show the related image. In addition to Checkboxes, you can also add Radio Buttons, Entry Fields, Drop-down Lists, and List Boxes. All of these are selectable on the Test & Survey ribbon. Wet Ingredients S The Google Map is inserted using the Web Window object. Web Windows can be internet locations such as web sites or Google Maps locations, your local intranet content, or another page in your title. You simply enter the address of the website or page to include and Lectora does the rest! (Of course, your student must be internet-connected to view external content.) Non-Perishable GS The recipe is inserted using the Web Window object. The Hyperlink text on this page uses the Display Page in Popup action to open another page in your title in a new window. Cooking Meat ACGN This page uses Custom Image Buttons to make it a little more fun. Custom Image Buttons allow you to choose different images (if you wish) for the normal, mouse-over and clicked states of each button. The Custom Text Buttons (for the beef choice) use the Set Progress Bar action to place the position of the

8 Cheese Around the World DS thermometer which is really a Progress Bar, with tick marks, oriented vertically. The Custom Image Buttons on this page use the Display Page in Popup action to launch another page in the title. On those pages you ll find text, images, and embedded audio and video. Lectora supports embedded: MP3, M4A, WAV, FLV and WMA audio files MP4, F4V, WMV and AVI video files as well as web-streaming A/V (e.g., YouTube). Cooking Seafood H The choices on this page are presented using Lectora s Menu object. Of course, the most common use for a menu is to go to the chaers, sections, and pages within your title. Creating a menu for that purpose is easy using the Create menu from table of contents oion. You can include an unlimited number of items in a menu, and have as many sub-menu levels as you d like. You can determine whether to orient the menu horizontally or vertically, and set the text s font, size, color and rollover highlight, as well as other oions such as borders and dividers. Fruits CGNR Each step uses a Group object which contains all of the related text, images and buttons. On Mouse Click of the Next button, each group hides itself and shows the next group in the sequence. Hyperlink text is used to display the additional tips, using a translucent gray image and a callout graphic. A variable is used to control which text tip to display for each step. Vegetables CGJR There are five (5) True or False questions on this page. As each is answered correctly, the Correct Feedback action of Run Action Group causes many things to occur: - The feedback text is shown - A Resize action shrinks the vegetable image

9 - A Move action moves the image into the pot - The question hides itself - The next question is displayed. Produce Safety T Monique enters using the Fly transition. When clicked, the Display Page in Popup action opens a new page containing a streaming YouTube video. (Of course, your student must be internet-connected to view it.) Starches NU This page uses the On Mouse Enter and On Mouse Exit actions to create a rollover effect; hiding and showing the highlight rectangles. This chaer uses the Go To page action to select each Starch. The new page opens in the existing window instead of opening in a Popup. Lectora s automatic status tracking is used to determine which Starch pages have been viewed, and hide the Next button until all have been seen. Bread DGN This page contains two Embedded Videos. As each button is selected actions are used to Hide one video and Show/Play the other. A Move action is used to move the rectangle to highlight which video is currently displayed. The Hyperlink Text uses the Open Attachment action to launch a document. Attachments can be added to the course files so they remain always available. No internet or network connection required. Rice HT The choices on this page are presented using Lectora s Menu object. Of course, the most common use for a menu is to go to the chaers, sections, and pages within your title. (Of course, your student must be internet-connected to view it.) Both videos use On Done Playing actions to award points towards Gold Leaf badges. Potatoes T An On Done Playing action is added to the YouTube video to award points towards Gold Leaf badges for students who watch it completely. Test Your Knowledge JKP This Knowledge Check uses Lectora s powerful Test features. This test is Timed and the questions are Randomly presented. Lectora has nine (9) gradable question types: True or False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, Fill in the Blank, Number Entry, Matching, Rank/Sequence, Drag and Drop, and Hot Spot. Cookware Question (Matching) BJ You may also use Short Answer, Essay, and Likert questions in a test, but they cannot be scored. This is a Matching question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. You can match images-to-images (as seen here), text-to-text, or text-to-images. Lectora also allows you to include additional distractor items to improve reliability of the assessment. Measurement Question (Number CJK Lectora lets you decide what action to take as feedback for a question. Monique is one of the many Character Poses located in the Stock Media Library. This question uses the Set Character Pose action which allows a character to be changed from one pose to another. This is a Number Entry question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. It is like a Fill in the Blank

11 Entry) Rice Question (Fill in the Blank) CJPR question for numeric-only answers. You identify whether the answer is correct using the following Relationships: Equal To, Not Equal To, Greater Than, Less Than, Greater Than or Equal, Less Than or Equal, or Between two values. This is a Fill in the Blank question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. For this one, the entry field for the answer is hidden from the student. Instead, Lectora uses a Change Contents action to fill in the answer based on the value of a variable, and represented on the page using the Timer object. Starch Question (Multiple Response) CJKN Timers can be set to Count Down, or as in this case, Count up. This is a Multiple Response question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. The four choices are represented by text and images; an oion available on most question types. Storing Question (True or False) CJ The placement of the choices is Randomly shuffled, increasing reliability of the assessment. Lectora keeps track of which checkbox goes with which text-image combination. This is a True or False question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. While it s called True or False, the labels can be changed to: -Yes/No, On/Off, Up/Down, In/Out, Stop/Go, Hot/Cold... Non-Perishable Question (Drag & Drop) CJ anything you d like! This is a Drag and Drop question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. Drag and Drop questions support text and/or images, and allow you to design questions where one drag item can be counted correct in multiple drop locations, where multiple drag items may go to one drop location, or traditional one-to-one Drag and Drop questions.

12 Cheese Question (Multiple Choice) CDJ Lectora also allows you to include additional distractor drag items and/or drop locations to improve reliability of the assessment. This is a Multiple Choice question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. With Lectora, answer choices may be represented by text and/or images; an oion available on most question types. Temperature Question (Rank/Sequence) CJNR If you d like, the placement of the choices can be randomly shuffled, increasing reliability of the assessment. And by using On Select/Change actions, you can create more interesting questions. This is a Rank/Sequence question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. You can rank items using the traditional numeric sequence, or you can enter the choice text in the drop-down lists. Bagging Question (Hot Spot) CJ By using a Progress Bar and conditional On Select/Change actions, images are shown to create a more visual interaction. This is a Hot Spot question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. You decide whether to present the hot spots as radio buttons or highlighted areas. Wet Ingredient Question (True or False) CJ For all questions, Display Message is the default feedback action, but you can do anything! For example, you may choose to Play a media file, Show some text or images, or perhaps Run Action Group to do several things at once. This is a True or False question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. While it s called True or False, the labels can be changed to: -Yes/No, On/Off, Up/Down, In/Out, Stop/Go, Hot/Cold... Submit Knowledge Check BC anything you d like! When you setup a Test, you decide what the passing score should be, and whether to display each

13 question s feedback and/or the test results to your learners. You may also choose to submit the results to your Learning Management System or to another location such as a Google Drive form. Completed B At the conclusion of a Test or Survey, you instruct Lectora where to proceed. In this course, learners come to this page when the test is passed, or go to a different page if they are unsuccessful. Having separate oion for On Completed/Passed and On Canceled/Failed allows you to include appropriate remediation steps in your instruction. You may also choose to submit the results to a custom location such as a Google Drive form. Survey: Page 1 of 5 J This page shows a couple of Likert questions; one of Lectora s twelve question types. Lectora makes Likert questions easy to create by providing eleven (11) predefined scales, as well as the ability to use a numeric scale or define your own custom scale. Layering the Likert question on top of a Table adds a nice look to the page. Many different Table styles are available to choose from, or you can define the

14 borders and cell colors. Survey: Page 2 of 5 J Question #3 is a Rank/Sequence question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. You can rank items using the traditional numeric sequence, or you can enter the choice text in the drop-down lists. Question #4 is a Multiple Choice question. With Lectora, answer choices may be represented by text and/or images, and the placement of the choices can be randomly shuffled. Survey: Page 3 of 5 JGFR Question #5 is a True or False question and Question #6 is a Multiple Response question; two of Lectora s twelve question types. Here we re using On Select/Change actions on the True or False choices to Hide or Show the Multiple Response question and to track a Variable which is used to limit the number of selections on that question. Hyperlink text adds another level of interaction and provides learners with access to the information being addressed. Survey: Page 4 of 5 JR Question #7 is a Short Answer question and Question #8 is a Number Entry question; two of Lectora s twelve question types. Short Answer questions are essentially Fill in the Blank questions without an expected (correct/incorrect) answer. A conditional On Select/Change action is added to the Number Entry question to Display Message if the number entered is Less Than 1 or Greater Than 10. Survey: Page 5 of 5 J This is an Essay question; one of Lectora s twelve question types. Essay questions allow multi-line entry. You determine the size of the entry field and the maximum number of characters permitted. The Submit button uses the Process Test/Survey action. You may indicate where to branch the course upon submission, and send the Survey results to a

15 custom location such as a Google Drive form. Survey Results BNS This survey was submitted to a publicly viewable Google Drive form and displayed here using Lectora s Web Window object. BGOT The Hyperlink Text on this page is used to open a page containing a Streaming YouTube video and a Certificate page. You may choose from many different pre-defined certificate styles. This page also features a Like button, one of the nine (9) Twitter, Facebook, and Google Social Objects available. When using a Social Object, remember that your content must be hosted in a location where the links are accessible to your audience. Glossary M This Glossary is a simple scrolling text block containing a Table. Many different Table styles are available to choose from, or you can define the borders and cell colors. Certificate FR You can easily add a Certificate page to your title using Lectora s Certificate Wizard. There are twelve (12) pre-defined base Certificate styles to choose from. You can then rearrange the placement of the information, select the text font and style you prefer, and even add additional images and text. In this example, a Form Object (Entry Field) is used to caure the student s name, and a Variable is used to add the appropriate number of Gold Leaf Award Badges to the Certificate. Recipe Index GLS This Recipe Index uses Hyperlink text to display other pages in the title within a Web Window. At the bottom of the page is an RSS Feed. RSS Feeds are

16 great elements for keeping your title feeling fresh and current.
