Justification for requested action (Provide a justification/rationale for each change or group of similar changes.): Change of course description: We are updating the course description, objectives, and outline for IMD 133 Beginning Web Design. This update is essential because the technology has changed over the last couple years and the course has become outdated and needs to reflect these changes.. This class presently teaches beginning web design with HTML and Microsoft Frontpage. The current language is now XHTML/CSS and the software is now Microsoft Expression Web. We want the course to be up-to-date and teach these technologies, which is why we are submitting this change request. Change of course competencies: The competencies have been rewritten slightly to reflect these updates and to better assess student learning outcomes. 3 Implementation Term: Spring Deactivation Term Spring Course Description: Present: This course is an introduction to the creation and publication of a web site. The course covers hypertext markup language (HTML), using HTML code and web authoring application software for web design, incorporating graphics into web pages, and publishing a web site. 3 credit hours. Proposed: Introduces the creation and publication of a web site and covers extensible hypertext markup language (XHTML) and introductory cascading style sheets (CSS). Code editing and web authoring software for web design will be covered, along with the incorporation of graphics into web sites and publishing. Course Proposal Rationale: 19. Use web editor to create web pages featuring images, links and tables. 6. Use web editor to edit pre-existing web pages. 7. Use web editor to design and construct an organized multi-page site. 8. Upload web pages to the World Wide Web. 9. Use web resources to market and maintain web site.
