1 Easy Edit Editing the Public Website Recommended browser for using the easy edit suite: Firefox Editing a Live Page 2. Click on the edit button 3. Place the page in to safe edit mode Either by clicking the initiate safe edit button or selecting safe edit from the drop down menu and clicking the save button.
2 4. Click on the content tab. Next click on the green icon or anywhere in the text area to activate the WYSIWYG editor. 5. Make your changes then click the save button (located on the top right of the screen). 6. If you are ready to make those changes live, click on the details screen and select approve from the status drop down menu. Press save. Then select make live and press save. You can preview your changes by clicking on the preview button (next to the edit button). This will show you any changes that have been made to the content while you are in safe edit mode.
3 Creating a new page 2. Click on the new button at the top of the page. 3. Click Create Page 4. Enter the page name. Note: Show in Menu by default should be set to Yes. If you select No, people visiting the site will not be able to navigate to your page. They would need to know the page URL to access this page. 5. Click Select Parent and wait a few moments for the asset finder to navigate to the current web page. Then press select, followed by create.
4 6. Click on Edit. This will take you to the preview of your new page. Click on The Edit button in the black toolbar at the top of the page to access the editing ribbon (refer to steps above for editing a page). Note: If you clicked close instead of edit (point 6 above) you will remain on the parent page. To access your new page, click on edit, then linking. Here you will see a list of children assets of the page. Hover over the page title (of your newly created page), then click on the magnifying glass icon. This will take you through to the preview screen of your new page. Uploading a document 2. Click on the new button at the top of the page. 3. Click on Files, then choose the type of file you would like to upload e.g. click on: Create PDF. 4. Click on the browse button to find the file you need to upload. note: You do not need to select whether to show in the menu or not, by default all file assets will be hidden from the navigation. 5. Click Select Parent, wait for the asset finder to navigate to the parent asset. 6. Click Select, followed by Create.
5 7. Close the window or click on edit if you need to replace the file. 8. To find the id for the PDF click on edit, then linking. You will see the id next to the filename. 9. Navigate to the page on which you would like the PDF link to appear. Place the page into safe edit mode (refer to the first section of this guide for detailed steps), click on the content tab. 10. Type the name of the file along with the file type and size e.g. my document (PDF 20KB) 11. Highlight this text and click on the link icon. Type the PDF s id into the id field. Press ok then save. 12. Test the link 13. Return to the details screen and make the page live. Metadata: Page description, keywords, hiding the right hand column (web tiles) and expanding the heading space for long page names. 2. Click on the edit button, then the metadata tab. Page descriptions & Keywords Pages General : Uncheck the use default check box and type the description for the page in to the text box. Dublin Core General: Uncheck the use default check boxes for keywords and Description/Abstract.
6 Add keywords to the keywords text area. Keywords are significant words that appear in the page content. They are terms that people type in to search engines (in this case the ACU search) to find your content. As a general rule, aim for between 3-5 keywords, with a maximum of 10 keywords per page. Add a description to the description/abstract text area. This should be a summary of the page content, and will display in the search results when someone does a search on the ACU website. Keep this information succinct, avoid jargon and complex vocabulary. Hiding the Right Column This setting will allow you to hide the web tiles in the right hand column; your page content will expand to fill this area. Example cases: staff listing pages and pages where you need to insert complex tables. This field appears at the top of the metadata screen. Uncheck the use default check box and click on the hide-right-col radio button. Long page name You can find this field under the design and promotion section on the metadata tab. Use this when you have a long page title. This will allow the heading area to expand to accommodate the page title. Uncheck the use default check box and select the appropriate heading length from the drop down. Linking Tab The linking screen list the current links associate with an asset. The screen allows you to: Hide the current page from the navigation Re-order child pages (and other assets) Delete the current page (or asset) Navigate to child assets Locate the asset id for child assets
7 To hide the current page from the navigation, select No under the show in menu column under the Location Links heading. To re-order the child pages simply hover over the first icon (blue up and down arrows) next to the pages name and drag and drop. To delete the current page, click on the red icon in the last column of the location links table. You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the page upon clicking this icon. To navigate to a child asset (or page) hover over the page title, a magnifying glass icon will appear, click on this and it will take you to the preview screen of that asset. The asset id of the child pages (and other assets including images and PDF s) appear to the right of the page name under the Direct Children section.
