3 Introduction Description The Learning Annex offers an extensive free library of online business, technical, and professional books, videos, and live events. Resource Books Videos Live Events Description Full and summary books which can be: Read in full online Downloaded via PDF* Downloaded to tablet* Downloaded as an audio book for playback* *Available for select titles. Short video clips covering a wide variety of topics, including technical training and discussions with industry leaders about popular business topics. Scheduled, live-stream events hosted by Skillsoft and industry leaders on various popular business topics. Access Follow the steps below to access The Learning Annex. 1 Navigate to Click the Learning Annex link in the Links tile. Note: If the Links tile is not already expanded, click the black arrow at the bottom to expand it. 2 Result: The Learning Annex opens. 3
4 Home Page Welcome Section The welcome area of the home page includes customized buttons which can be clicked to browse featured topics. Note: The design and buttons in this area are subject to change. My Bookshelf My Bookshelf allows learners to build their own organized collection of resources. Learners can create sets (e.g. shelves) and add books and videos to save for review at a later time. My Bookshelf allows learners to save resources for faster access, rather than having to search for them each time they log in. For more information on My Bookshelf, see the My Bookshelf section of this guide. The Library The Library contains all available Learning Annex assets. Using The Library instead of the search function allows the user to browse assets within a category instead of searching for a specific keyword or author. For instructions on how to browse The Library, see the Browse Learning Annex section of this guide. My Tasks The My Tasks section becomes visible when the learner has assets in their bookshelf with upcoming due dates. The learner can click the Upcoming link or number icon to view details for or launch the upcoming assets. 4
5 Home Page, Continued Quick Links The Quick Links section contains links to important Learning Annex resources. Link Learning Annex Transcript Business Books Club Support Description The Learning Annex Transcript contains the history of all assets accessed by the learner. Note: For more information on the Learning Annex Transcript, see the Learning Annex Transcript section of this guide. A link to the Corporate Business Books Club poster. Club contact information is included on the poster. Skillsoft support resources and online guides. Note: These guides include additional instructions for tools that are not currently licensed by Sysco for SIU learners. Note: The links in in this section are subject to change. Upcoming Events The Upcoming Events section is visible when there are upcoming or recently recorded live events available for viewing. To view the live events, click the Live Events link. Live events that have been recorded can be saved to the learner s bookshelf to view later. Note: Older live events are available via the Search function. Search using the keywords live event and then click the Videos button. Recently Viewed The Recently Viewed section displays assets most recently launched by the learner. Note: This section is only visible after the learner begins to search for and view content. Continued on next page 5
6 Home Page, Continued Recommended for You The Recommended for You section contains personalized and popular content recommendations for the learner, based on the learner s recent content usage and popular content across the Learning Annex site. Note: This section becomes visible after the learner begins to search for and view content. Featured Content The Featured Content slots display assets being promoted or highlighted by the Leadership Development & Training team. 6
7 Learning Annex Assets Browse Learning Annex Follow the steps below to browse assets within a Learning Annex category. Click The Library icon. 1 Click the category link for the topic you wish to browse. 2 Once a category is accessed, the learner can: Icon Description Browse available books Browse available videos Note: Videos are not available for every category. Search for a specific author, title, or other keyword within the category Bookmark the category to save it to their bookshelf Browse the latest titles made available for the category in the New Releases section Note: This section is only visible if there are new titles for the category. 8 Learning Annex Assets, Continued Keyword Search The search function allows learners to perform a search of all available assets based on a keyword. Follow the steps below to search for an asset by title, author, or other keyword. 1 Enter the title, author, or other keyword in the Search Content field. Press Enter or click the magnifying glass icon. 2 Result: All available assets matching the keyword display. Click the Launch button for the desired asset. 3 Note: Instead of launching the asset immediately, click the down arrow next to the Launch button to: Drop-Down List Option Description Details View the asset details Buy asset Buy a hardcopy of the asset from Amazon (only available for books) Save Save the asset to your bookshelf Continued on next page 8
9 Learning Annex Assets, Continued Filter Search Results Follow the steps below to filter search results beyond the initial keyword. Perform a search based on a keyword, title, or author. 1 Note: See the Keyword Search section of this guide for steps. Click the Add Filters link. 2 (Optional) Click each category under Subjects to be included in the results. 3 4 Note: Multiple subjects can be selected. (Optional) Select Book Summaries to only include assets in the ExecSummaries series. 5 (Optional) Select Audio Books to only include books available for download as an audio book. (Optional) Select a specific copyright timeframe from the Copyright drop-down box. 6 Click the Apply button. 7 Result: Search results are updated to only show assets matching selected filters. 9
10 My Bookshelf Description My Bookshelf allows learners to build their own organized collection of resources. Learners can create sets (e.g. shelves) and add books and videos to save for review at a later time. Each associate s My Bookshelf contains: All learning assets added by the learner for completion Any bookmarks created by the learner in the library Create New Set Sets can be thought of as shelves on a bookshelf. New shelves can be created based on a learner s personal goals and preferences. Follow the steps below to add a new set to your bookshelf. 1 Click the My Bookshelf icon. 2 Click the Manage Sets link. 3 Click the Add Set icon. 4 Enter the desired set name in the blank field that appears. Click the Add Set button. 5 Result: The new set appears at the top of the set list. Note: The order of sets can be changed by: Clicking and dragging the sets to a new location. Using the Move Set icons. Click the Done button. 6 Result: The new set is created and is available for assets to be added to it. 10 Continued on next page
11 My Bookshelf, Continued Create New Subset Subsets can be created to organize specific categories within a set. For example, Negotiations and Workplace Conflict could be subsets of a Business Communication set. Subsets can help prevent a set which is too general from getting too long to manage. Follow the steps below to create a new subset. 1 Click the My Bookshelf icon. 2 3 Click the Manage Sets link. Click the Add Set icon. 4 Enter the desired set name in the blank field that appears. Click the Add Set button. 5 Result: The new set appears at the top of the set list. Move the new set beneath the existing set for which it will be a subset. 6 The order of sets can be changed by: Clicking and dragging the sets to a new location. Using the Move Set icons. Click the Increase Indent icon. 7 Result: The new set becomes a subset of the set above it. Note: To change a subset back to an overall set, click the Decrease Indent button. 8 Click the Done button. 12 My Bookshelf, Continued Edit Existing Set Follow the steps below to edit the title of an existing set. Click the My Bookshelf icon. 1 2 Click the Manage Sets link. 3 Highlight the set to be updated. 4 Click the Edit Set icon. 5 Enter the new title in the title field. Click the Update Set button. 6 Note: The order of sets can be changed by: Clicking and dragging the sets to a new location. Using the Move Set icons. Click the Done button. 7 Result: The set title is updated. Continued on next page 12
13 My Bookshelf, Continued Remove Existing Set Learners can quickly and easily remove sets from their bookshelf which are no longer needed. Follow the steps below to remove an existing set. 1 Click the My Bookshelf icon. 2 Click the Manage Sets link. 3 Highlight the set to be removed. Click the Delete Set icon. 4 Note: Deleting a set will also delete assets still assigned to it. Be sure to move assets to a different set if they need to be kept before proceeding with the deletion. Click Yes in the Delete Set confirmation window. 5 6 Result: The set and any items assigned within it are removed from the list. Click the Done button. Continued on next page 13
14 My Bookshelf, Continued Add New Asset Follow the steps below to add a Learning Annex asset to your bookshelf. 1 Search or browse for the asset. Note: See the Browse Learning Annex or Keyword Search section of this guide for instructions. 2 Locate the desired learning asset. Click the down arrow next to the Launch button. 3 Note: The button wording may vary by asset type. Select Save. 4 5 Select a desired due date for completing or reviewing the learning asset in the Due On field. Select the Existing Set or New Set radio button in the Save to section. 6 7 Note: To help keep your bookshelf organized, General Set is not recommended. Click the Select link that appears next to Existing Set or New Set. Select the desired set from your set list. Result: A checkmark appears next to the selected set. 8 Notes: The sets that appear will depend on how your bookshelf is set up. A new set can be created here if none of the existing sets is appropriate. For instructions on managing your bookshelf and sets, see the Create New Set section of this guide. Click the Save button. 10 Click the OK button in the confirmation window. 11 Result: The asset is added to the bookshelf set. Bookshelf Asset s Once assets are added to your bookshelf, the following actions can be performed by clicking the down arrow next to the Launch button. Details Change Info Hide Move This Item Remove View/Add Personal Note Description Shows the asset details including: Table of contents Related items Book length Publisher Author Overview Back cover text Description Lesson summary Note: Details shown depend on the type of asset. Allows the learner to update the Due On date, personal notes, and reminders. Moves the asset to a hidden items list at the bottom of the page. Allows the learner to move the asset to a different place within the set or to a different existing set. Removes the asset from the learner s bookshelf. Allows the learner to add personal notes about the book or view/edit previously added notes. 15
16 Learning Annex Transcript Description The Learning Annex transcript is a record of all assets the learner has launched within the Learning Annex. From the transcript page, the learner can view the details of the asset or re-launch it. If the asset being re-launched is a book, it will open to the last page reviewed before it was closed. Access Learning Annex Transcript Follow the steps below to access the Learning Annex transcript. Click the Learning Annex Transcript link under Quick Links. Result: The Learning Transcript page appears. Notes: The list order defaults to descending based on the Last Accessed date. This can be changed by clicking any of the headings along the top of the list. Select the down arrow to choose from Ascending or Descending order. 1 The list is organized by Date as the default but can also be arranged based on the learner s bookshelf sets. Any assets on the transcript that are not part of the learner s sets will fall under Other. Select the Show Filters link to show filter fields which can be used to narrow the transcript list to more easily locate a specific asset. 16
