1 Chapter 5: Matrix Pages CHAPTER 5: MATRIX PAGES Objectives Introduction The objectives are: Describe improvements to matrix pages Matrix Pages have been enhanced and improved in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1 (SP1), with the addition of a simple option to view and edit data within matrixes. Matrix Pages are redesigned with new capabilities that improve the usability of matrix pages and increase user productivity. 5-1

2 What's New in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1 - Application Matrix Pages Improvements Matrix Pages are redesigned to display an all-in-one overview, simplifying the user's ability to convert from Microsoft Dynamics NAVTM 5.0 matrix forms to the matrix forms in the RoleTailored client. This also gives a more productive and user-friendly experience. Drill Through to Report In Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 there is a feature that allows you to drill through to other pages from a report. Many partners and customers requested this same feature for reports, which enables you to drill through from one report to another. FIGURE 5.1 REPORT: CUSTOMER - TOP 10 LIST 5-2

3 Chapter 5: Matrix Pages The user gets more information on the data that supports a specific report or a wedge in a pie chart, for example. This feature gives users more insight into the data so that they can make more informed decisions. New One-Page Design Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1 has a new one-page design in Matrix Pages. With the one-page design, filters can be set and changed directly on a matrix The new one-page design is included in eight of the most-used matrix pages: Budget Sales Budget Overview Purchase Budget Overview Resource Capacity Group Capacity Production Forecast Dimension Value Combinations Dimension Combinations In-Grid Editing Matrix pages in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1 support in-grid editing. This improves the productivity of users who perform heavy data-entry on matrix pages. Matrix Refresh Matrix Pages refresh when the user changes filters. This ensures that users will always have the updated information when they work with matrix pages. 5-3

Summary FIGURE 5.2 BUDGET MATRIX PAGE The user experience around matrix pages is improved with: One-page design that lets users set and change filters on the same page that shows the data. In-grid editing and drilldown capabilities so that the users can edit entries in the individual cells in a matrix directly and drill down an entry to understand the detailed information that creates the entry. The redesign of Matrix pages adds new capabilities, thus improving the usability and increasing the user productivity. 5-4
