Online Card Printing Service User Manual Ver. 1.1 CRYPTAS it-security GmbH Modecenterstrasse 22/B2 A-1030 Vienna User Manual Vienna,May 2006
1 Introduction With the Online Card Printing Service you can design your own chip cards and let them be produced by us. Using our comfortable editor you are able to define the layouts and personalise your chip cards. The order will be encrypted and sent to us via . We print the cards and return them to you. 2 Requirements 2.1 Supported Internet Browser The Online Card Printing Service can only be used together with Microsoft Internet Explorer. 2.2 Security Settings for the Internet Explorer The following settings must be checked to assure that the service can be executed. In general tab, the security level for the web content zone Internet should be set to Medium (go to Tools - Internet Options - Security Custom Level Reset to: Medium). The following settings can also be edited manually: ActiveX controls and plug-ins Script ActiveX controls marked safe Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls Download signed ActiveX controls Download signed ActiveX controls Enable/Prompt Disable Enable/Prompt Disable Enable/Prompt Disable Miscellaneous Navigate sub-frames across different domains Enable/Prompt Please verify that these settings for the Internet Explorer are configured as described in the tables above, so you can use our service without any restrictions. For those settings that offer two choices (Enable/Prompt) you may decide for yourself, which to use. The setting Prompt offers a higher level of security because you will be informed on every critical action performed by the browser. However, the setting Enable offers more comfort. Fonts that are not included in Microsoft Windows: If you re planning to use custom fonts that are not part of Microsoft Windows, please send us a copy of these fonts via . Do consider possible infringement of a copyright or other limitations. 2
2.3 Manually updating the ActiveX component If you are experiencing troubles using the layout designer, it might be necessary to update the included ActiveX component manually. In the Internet Explorer menu, click on Tools. Choose Manage Add-ons. In the Manage Add-ons window select Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer from the selection list. The list underneath shows the add-ons currently active (see Figure 1). Choose CertRequest Class (click to highlight). Click the button Update ActiveX in the lower right corner oft the window to start updating. The new version of the ActiveX component will be downloaded from our web server. Thus you can be sure that your browser is using the latest version of the ActiveX component. Figure 1: Internet Explorers Add-On Manager to administer installed add-ons. 3
3 Using the Web Interface Figure 2: The Online Card Printing Service web interface. The creation of an card printing job is separated into three steps. In the first step ( ) you define a card layout. Replace the default name New Layout with a name of your choice and click the button Edit ( ) to start the layout editor. To add more layout templates, click on the arrow button in the last row ( ). With Delete ( ) you can delete a template, with Print ( ) you can print a preview of the template on a local printer. 4
4 Card Layout Designer Figure 3: The Card Layout Designer showing an empty template. Controls Overview Tab Frontside Backside: Switch between front side and backside of the card. Chip card layout area: By default, a blank white card is shown. On the front side, the space for the chip is already marked and will be left out during the printing process. You don t have to take care for that explicitly. The denoted chip serves only orientational purpose. The back side of the card can be filled completely. Show Background Picture: If you check that option, a Open File Dialog appears, where you can choose a background picture. The picture will be scaled automatically to the size of the card. Oversize: Defines the space in millimetres on which the printed image exceeds the physical size of the chip card. An oversize of at least 1 mm is recommended for borderless printing. The physical border of the card is represented by the dashed red line. Show Owner Image: If you check that option, a template for a photograph will be inserted. In step 2 of the designing and ordering process, you can replace the template with a photograph. Alignment: Set the orientation of the photograph within the surrounding border. Show Label Text: Check this option to enable the text label edit field. Text Label Template: In this text field you have the opportunity to enter and format any text you like. By pressing the right mouse button you can modify the formatting of the text or insert placeholders (for data from your Active Directory) to personalise the cards. Those placeholders will be replaced with real data in step 2. Alignment: Set the orientation of the text within the surrounding border. Zoom Factor: With the zoom factor slide bar or the numerical input field you can zoom from 1% to 999% to position the graphical elements as exactly as necessary. 5
Show Guidelines: By default, this option is checked. If you uncheck this option, the guidelines will no longer be displayed in the design view. Print: A preview of the designed layout template will be printed on a locally installed printer (if available). Load: A previously created design template can be loaded into the designer. Save: A designed layout template can be stored for later reuse. This proceeding is recommended if future orders with the same card template are considered. Example of a layout template for a personalised card: Figure 4: Card layout with placeholders for an owner image and an Active Directory data (Academic title, name). 6
Example of a standard card with no personalisation: Figure 5: Default card with no placeholders for personalising. Cards with sequential number If you need cards with a sequential number (member id, card number, employee number, etc.) the Layout Designer offers the possibility to add a counter. This counter preserves you from adding each number manually. Insert the %SQNR% variable in the Text Label Template field (via context menu) which automatically generates a sequential number from 1 to 999,999,999. If you don t want the counter to start with 1, you can add an offset to start at a different value. For example, inserting %SQNR100% into the Text Label Template generates numbers in the form of 101, 102, 103, and so on (see Figure 6 and Figure 7). You have to insert the offset manually between the R in SQNR and the enclosing % to generate a valid variable. Figure 6: Layout designer with variable for sequential numbers. Figure 7: Card preview with sequential number. 7
If you have finished designing the layout template you may proceed to step 2 to configure the number of cards you like to order. In step 2 ( ) you can decide if you would like to order cards for people, teams, units, etc. from your local Active Directory or if you want to order standard cards with no personalisation information. In the layout template table select the preferred layout by checking the radio button in the Choose column. Browse AD opens a browser for your local Active Directory. There you can choose people, teams, departments, etc. for whom the cards should be printed. The selection appears in the table underneath. The placeholders from the layout (see Figure 4 for example) for personalised cards will be completed automatically with the data from your Active Directory selection. If you choose No User Data you can set a number of cards that will appear in the table underneath. In this mentioned table you can again open the editor ( ), the preview ( ) (necessary for individually modifying the text label or inserting owner images), delete entries ( ), or print a preview of the final cards ( ). In the last step ( ) you can save the current, or load an existing printing job. By clicking Send to Order the order an payment process will be started. All you have to do now is to put the ordered cards into the shopping basket to proceed with the order. 8
