CALL TO ORDER at 9:04 a.m. by Chair Pam DeTilla presiding at San Luis Obispo County Library. Welcome to Joyce Fischer, new OPAC representative for the Santa Maria Public Library. 2. ADOPT AGENDA Moved by Joyce Fischer, seconded by Sandi Williams and carried unanimously to adopt the agenda with the following addition: 4.f. Introduction to Jody Thomas, who will be taking Jace Turner s place on the OPAC Committee. 3. *APPROVE MINUTES Moved by Jace Turner, seconded by Marci Cunningham and carried unanimously to approve the August 26, 2015 minutes as submitted. 4. OPAC a. Review of Capira Beta Testing. BG reports several fixable issues showing up consistently that will be addressed by Michael Berse when he returns on Friday. Overall positive group consensus on the intuitive nature, display and presentation of the app environment we are offering to our patrons. Jurisdictions are asked to check the link to their library policies, and to select border colors to contrast with any white text, which does not read well. BG will follow up on the Spanish language option, which has been purchased. Suggestion for an icon to show the app is available or for a popup to download the app, which will be looked into. Further suggestion for a link to the app via social media such as Twitter and Facebook, which was agreed to. The next step includes two weeks for Apple to approve the app during which time we will test Android devices. BG will prepare a press release template and is also working on a marketing card with space for library logos, which will be provided to everyone. Question about RSS feed will be discussed with Capira and tabled for now. b. General review of the PAC home page and see if there are desired changes, updates, etc. Discussion included group agreement that the survey banner on downloadable/streaming content will end at the beginning of October, and that we will keep Auto Renew information up for several more weeks. Suggestion was made to push the New Titles link (left-hand side) higher in the main menu, which Gary has already done on the branch pages. Group consensus to move New Titles link above Recommended, move the Learning Express link with other databases, and make the Auto Renew section smaller. We will be receiving some new Zinio titles; group decided the best way to highlight this information will be to swap content with the survey banner when it is removed. c. *Check links in the 856 URL field in bib records. Request was made and the group agreed to the following when a bib record is added to the catalog: the link will be checked to make sure it works, the URL for cover image will be removed since we use Content Café for our image display, jurisdictions getting records from Baker & Taylor will instruct them to remove the 856 cover image URL fields, and the URL linking to another library source in the in DVD/Blu-ray records will be removed. d. *Discuss adding Twilight saga and Divergent series to the 245 fields of the DVD/ Blu-ray records. Group agreed to add 245 field series titles to these two listings so that items are shelved together.
3 Black Gold Cooperative Library System OPAC Committee agenda 2 e. *Discuss merging multiple records for Being Peace and I Thought It Was Just Me. Discussion included mention that, for fiction titles, we currently merge when core content is the same excepting the introduction. Group agreed to merge these two cases and look at a general policy in the future. f. Introduction to Jody Thomas, who will be taking Jace Turner s place on the OPAC Committee, handled at the outset of the meeting. 5. AGENDA BUILDING No items submitted 6. ITEMS TO BE FORWARDED No items forwarded 7. NEXT MEETING 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016, webinar 8. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m. Minutes recorded by Sandi Williams, PR

8 LearningExpress Library Records in the OPAC We have LearningExpress Library records to load into the OPAC. The records are for ebooks, online courses, tests, and video tutorials. Here is a sample record: The 099 call# is ONLINE RESOURCE, there is a dummy item attached, the URL links to the item in the LearningExpress Library site, they can be searched by LearningExpress or Learning Express, and they don t have 020 ISBNs and will not have images associated with them.
9 Merging Records Our current policy is to merge: Continuing resources (such as travel, legal, computer, test, price guides, Year s best, and medical books) into open-entry serial records. Graphic novels into set records. Fiction and non-fiction classics into blanket records. Fiction into combined records (if the illustrator, translator, format, and main content are the same). Non-fiction records: Most non-fiction titles have just one hardcover and paperback version, and in some cases they are already cataloged on one record. Recommendation: We will continue to merge records as listed above. If staff find non-fiction titles that could be combined on one record, or call Teresa at Black Gold System Cataloging, and I will merge the records if they fit the requirements.* *If they are the same work, don t have different translators, or don t have different/added content such as a memorial edition with considerable extra material included.
10 Links in carousel not leading to title in OPAC The OPAC home page carousels are connected to the bib record control numbers so they will not match up anytime we merge the record into another record (such as a set or serial record), delete the record, overlay the minimal record with a fuller record (such as with fiction, and DVDs/Blu-ray records), and import B&T or Midwest DVD/Blu-ray records. It may occur frequently with new or hot titles because they will be ordered and reordered multiple times. The record control numbers are matched up daily, so there will just be a short time until they link to the new bib record.
