1 Getting Started Connect to and view your subscribed publications by clicking IHS Jane s from the customer login drop down menu located in the top right-hand corner of the page.. The products you have access to will be displayed in the Your Subscriptions area of your account Home page. To return to this page, click on the Home link on the top navigation bar. Click on any of the products listed in Your Subscriptions to access the product s website. You will be able to Search and Browse exclusively within any product website. Page 1 of 5

2 Upon logging in you will be asked whether you wish to continue as a Shared Account user or as a Personal Account user. Personal Account users enjoy added benefits of personalised functionality such as Customised Results Display, Saved Search Alerts, Subject-Based Alerts and Export. Your account Home page also displays the Latest News and Updates that are related to your subscription, as well as links to Online Intelligence Briefings and Editorial Highlights. Search Start your search with the Search bar at the top right of the page. The auto-suggest feature provides related search terms. Users can also Search by Subject or Search by Publication by selecting the Search link on the top navigation bar. Search result filters have been integrated into the left-hand menu of the Results page. Select criteria from the filters, and then select the Refine Results button. Personal Account users will be able to customise their results displays, create search keyword-based alerts and export results. Save Search / Create Alert The Save Search / Create Alert functionality allows Personal Account users to save their search results and create daily, weekly, fortnightly or quarterly alerts in or RSS formats. The alerts will be delivered to your inbox and provide direct access via links to full articles, keeping you up to date in your area of interest. Click on My Products/Services and then select My Searches/Alerts to view and manage your alerts. Page 2 of 5

3 Subject-Based Based Alerts & Feeds Personal Account users who are subscribed to Defence News titles, Security News titles and the following Intelligence Centr Centres: Defence Equipment and Technology, Defence Industry and Markets, Military and Security Assessments, Terrorism and Insurgency Centr Centre and Defence Procurement, will be able to access these alerts in mail or RSS formats. Users can view and manage their Subject-Based Based Alerts & Feeds in the My Searches/Alerts page. Image Search Image search can be performed using the filters in the left hand menu of the Results page. After performing a keyword search, select the Document Format filter on the left-hand menu. Select Imagery from the drop-down list and click on the Refine Results button. Phrasing Search Achieved by entering two or more keywords surrounded by double quotes ( ). The search query will return only exact matches where the keywords appear adjacent in a document, e.g. mortar bomb Gulf War Syndrome. Page 3 of 5

4 Tracking Your Search Criteria You can track your search parameters at any point on the system and remove any filter put in at any point. As can be seen in the diagram, there are numerous filters applied; any of these can be removed by clicking the t X next to the filter. Wildcard Characters Wildcard Search Characters There are a few options on wildcards that give you the ability to put variables into a search that can locate related words. The Asterisk (*) expands the scope of your search by representing one or more alphanumeric characters at the beginning, middle or end of a word: a search for "nav*" will return "navy", "naval", "navigation"... The Question Mark (?) limits the scope of your your search by representing a single alphanumeric character: a search for "nav?" will return only "navy". Online Intelligence Briefings Our regularly-scheduled eduled 60 minute Online Intelligence Briefings include an open Q&A Session during which you can ask questions about the topic with our experts. Register by clicking on the associated time by the topical briefing you wish to attend. Page 4 of 5
