1 Engineering Support Tool IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA Comparison between AV-DATA and IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA In 2013, the AV-DATA online application will be retired and the data will be migrated into our premier, online standards management system, IHS Standard Expert as IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA. The new delivery platform for your AV-DATA data will provide you with powerful administration and project management tools, additional search filters, faster search results, and better user interface experience with regularly updated data. Some of the additional new features include: Saved Searches Additional Search Filters Ability to add notes in your Results List Type-ahead functionality in your search fields ipad & iphone Browser Compatibility Why the change? The current platform that AV-DATA utilizes is over a decade old and has very limited capabilities to enhance features, functions and tools to best meet our customer s aviation regulatory requirements. Login Your current IHS Engineering Resource Center (ERC) User Name and Password will not change. You can continue to logon as you have done in the past when accessing AV-DATA, but as a first time user of IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA, you will be prompted to register. As a registered user, you will gain access to the powerful administration and project management tools this application provides. If you already subscribe to the premier IHS Standards Expert management tool and have already registered, you will not be prompted to register again. 2 Navigation and Nomenclature Changes IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA and AV-DATA tabs and search filters are similar, but there are valuable new search filters and nomenclature changes that are more intuitive to enhance the user experience. The table below identifies the navigational and nomenclature changes and the new tools and features you now have with IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA. Search Fields, Filters and Tabs AV-DATA Search Filters IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA Search Filters 1 Doc No Document Number or Organization field 2 Text Keyword or Text field 3 Subscription only My Subscription checkbox 4 Titles Only Titles checkbox 5 Watchlist Watch Lists are created and managed using the tools found on the Watch Lists Tab 6 Source To access this information for use in refining your search criteria, click on the Organization: more link found in the Advanced Filters panel. 7 Posted Since To access this information for use in refining your search criteria, click on the Posted Date link found in the Advanced Filters panel. 8 Status To access this information for use in refining your search criteria, select the Active Status checkbox or select a more specific filter to refine your search such as Active documents, Cancelled, Discontinued, etc., which is found in the Advanced Filters panel. 9 Company To access this information for use in refining your search criteria, click on the Company link found in the Advanced Filters panel. 10 Model To access this information for use in refining your search criteria, click on the Model link found in the Advanced Filters panel. New Filters and Fields Available with IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA 11 Abstracts The Abstracts filter refines your search by searching document Abstracts for the keyword or document number you entered. Abstracts are summaries on the scope of a selected document and can include information on the intended use of a document, the custodian, the reviewing agencies, and other related information about the document. 11 All Document Text The All Document Text filter performs a full-text search on all documents that match other selected search criteria you have selected. 11 Account Notes The Account Notes filter returns results only for documents that contain an Account Note. For more information on Account Notes, refer to the Online Help. 11 Most Recent Revision The Most Recent Revision filter searches for recently revised versions of documents within the IHS Standards Expert system and are not necessarily the latest documents being developed by the Standards Development Organization that owns/manages the content of a document. 3 11 Account Notes The Account Notes filter returns results only for documents that contain an Account Note. For more information on Account Notes, refer to the Online Help. 11 My Publications The My Publications filter returns results that include documents a company s Administrator has loaded into the IHS Standards Expert plus AV- DATA system. If your company does not subscribe to this feature, you will not see the filter for it. Additional Filters that are displayed by using the toggle arrow that hide or show these filters: 11 Language Click on the Select a Language link in the Advanced Filters panel to find only those documents that are in a specific language. Note: When selected, a dialog box opens that lists the various languages and the number of documents for a specific language. 11 ICS Code ICS (International Classification for Standards) Code filters on documents using this code structure for catalogues of international, regional and national standards and other normative documents. 11 FSC Code FSC (Federal Supply Classification) Code filters on documents using this four-digit code which is assigned to all U.S. Government standardization documents. The code identifies the supply classification of an item of supply identified under the NATO Codification System, an item of production and/or a homogeneous area of commodities in respect to their physical or performance characteristics. 11 IHS Segment IHS Segment restricts a search to the selected segments (standards categories) as they are defined in the IHS Standards Expert database, which includes Industry Standards, Military Standards, Historical MilSpecs, Active MilSpecs, DoD Adopted Standards, and other Federal and Military Standards. 11 Saved Searches Saved Searches allows you to retrieve a search results list you have saved on the IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA server if you do not want to download the search results to your desktop. 11 Personalization This area is based on your recently viewed documents and preference settings and is associated with your registration. 11 IHS Standards Expert News AV-DATA Tabs 12 Home Home This section includes the latest information on added content, Tech Tips, Overviews of newly added features and more. IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA Tabs 5 Watch Lists The Watch List Tab has the tools necessary to create a more robust Watch List, and you are provided with the options of creating, sharing, modifying, removing or adding notes to Watch Lists, as well as managing the documents within a list. -- Table of Contents The AV-DATA Table of Contents tool is not available in IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA. The Table of Contents tab in IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA is the ASME BPVC Table of Contents, which also has a link under the Search button in the left-navigational Search panel. 4 8 Draft Docs This information can be found by selecting a more specific filter to refine your search from the Status links, which are found in the Advanced Filters panel. 14 Subscription Your subscription information can be found on the My Account Tab. -- More Info This information is not available in IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA 13 Help Help is found above the tabbed tools Search, Favorites, etc. 14 Preferences Your Preferences information can be found on the My Account Tab. 15 ERC Menu IHS menu 16 Support Contact Us New IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA Tabs 17 Favorites Favorites are a single list of documents that you can quickly access and differ from Watch Lists as they are linked to your personal profile only, whereas Watch Lists can be shared by you or are lists others have allowed you to view/access. 17 Alerts You can set Alerts for documents that will notify you when a document has been modified by the authoring agency or organization and is updated in the IHS Standards Expert database. The alert displays in the personal profile section of the IHS Standards Expert home page, on the Alerts tab, and in the Tools column of a results list. 17 Table of Contents The Table of Contents tab in IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA is the ASME BPVC Table of Contents, which also has a link under the Search button in the left-navigational Search panel. 17 Training & Support The Training & Support Tab contains helpful information to enhance the IHS Standards Expert plus Av-DATA experience, such as a list of available Training sessions, FAQs and more. 6 Results List Changes IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA and AV-DATA results list are also similar, but have slightly different naming conventions. In addition, there are valuable new results list options available to ensure you have exactly the document you are searching for. The table below identifies the navigational and nomenclature changes and the new tools and features you now have with IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA. Results Lists Column Headings and Tools AV-DATA Columns IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA Columns 1 List Add Tools Favorites (Add) or Watch Lists (Add) 2 Format This icon is found in the Document Number column with the Document Number, Details and History 3 Source This information can be accessed by clicking on the Details link in the Document Number column. 4 Doc No (View Doc) Select either the image icon or the Document Number to open the document to view. 5 Doc Date Date Note: This is the date the document was published by the Standards Development Organization. 6 Title Title 7 Status Status 8 Post Date This information is not available. 9 Download Search Results Download Results New Results Lists Tools Available with IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA 10 Details History The Details History links display a page with the document's summary, abstract, and history. The History includes a table similar to a Results List that identifies the authoring organization s versions of documents as the standards are upgraded or modified. 10 Sort by Relevancy Sorting by Relevancy places the best matches at the top of a results list; exact matches are at the top of the list, then partial matches, and finally matches that have some alpha/numerical relevancy to your search criteria are listed. 10 Save Search Save Search allows you to save a search results list for access at a later time. 10 Notes (Add) Notes is a convenient feature if you need or want to add a note to a result list item, for example, if you are using a particular document on a specific project and want to note what project it is associated with. 10 Print Use the Print button to print your Results List To view the new IHS Standards Expert plus AV-DATA results list features and tools associated with this table, refer to the graphic on the next page.
