3 I. Using Fileshare Exporter Must run with administrator rights. If you are not logged in as an administrator, please use the Run as command. Right-click Fileshare Exporter.exe and choose Run as administrator: Windows 7 and higher operating systems will prompt for User Account Control. If the UAC prompt displays, click yes to continue:

4 View Shares: Click the view link to view shared folders on the local computer. The Shared Folders Computer Management snap-in tool will display as shown below:

5 Export Share Settings: Fileshare Exporter comes ready to export. Click export to begin. Output format is HTA by default. Notice username and share permissions listed for easy review.

6 To change the output format, go to the Settings screen. Select CSV then save. Note: By default built-in administrative shares are included. Uncheck this box to exclude. Below is an example CSV export file:

7 There are 3 options for how the output file is saved (shown below). 1. Overwrite without prompt will create a file in the same folder as the executable called Fileshare Details for <servername>.csv where <servername> is the name of the local computer. If a file with this name already exists, it will be overwritten without any warning. (Data overwritten will be lost permanently.) 2. Alternatively if Prompt before overwrite is selected, a prompt will display allowing users to continue overwrite or cancel to backup or rename the existing file first to prevent lost data. 3. Generate timestamp file will add the current date and time to the file name for uniqueness. This option is useful for creating an archive for historical reference. See example file names below (one created per month). Note: For even more export options use command line parameters. The command line allows you to specify a different output folder, filename, timestamp and more.

8 Import Mode: Import will create shares on the local computer automatically. This is a step by step process. You will have an opportunity to review shares before share creation begins. Select a file to import. Input file must be either CSV or HTA format. Note: CSV is the easiest format to customize for import. Migrating shares to another drive has never been easier! Simply use Find/Replace to quickly change all drive letters in your CSV file and save before import begins.

9 Double click an entry to view share details as shown below:

10 If errors are detected, a link will appear to view details (see below): Make edits to fix errors or continue import to create shares.

11 Delete Mode: To delete all shares on the local computer, click Tools->Delete Shares: Confirm deletion at the next screen. Note: Deleting shares is useful while testing or for migrating shares to another disk. Example: Export shares to CSV, use Delete Shares tool, edit CSV file to replace drive letter with new drive letter, import shares. Licensing: Fileshare Exporter is always free to use of up to 5 shares. The free version is fully functional (except the 5 share limit). For more shares, a license key can be purchased at Once licensed, it can be used as many times as you want on any number of computers in your organization.

12 Fileshare Exporter Command Line Parameters Usage: Fileshare Exporter.exe /M mode [/P path] [/F filename] [/T type] [/N] Description: This tool will export or import file share settings and permissions to the local computer. Parameter List: /M Mode Required Specifies mode of operation {Export or Import}. /P Path Optional Specifies folder path. Default is the same folder as the executable. /F Filename Optional Specifies filename. Default is Fileshare Details for <servername>.csv where <servername> is the name of the local computer. /T Type Optional Specifies report type {CSV or HTA}. Default is CSV. /N New Optional Specifies new file. Timestamp will be appended to filename for uniqueness. Only available in export mode. Examples: EXPORT MODE: Fileshare Exporter.exe /M Export - Will create an output file in the same folder as the executable with the name Fileshare Details for <servername>.csv Fileshare Exporter.exe /M Export /F MyShares - Will create an output file in the same folder as the executable with the name MyShares.csv Fileshare Exporter.exe /M Export /P C:\My Tools\Admin /F MyShares /T HTA /N - Will create an output file in the folder C:\My Tools\Admin with the name MyShares <date> <time>.hta. IMPORT MODE: Fileshare Exporter.exe /M Import - Will import settings from the file located in same the folder as the executable with the name Fileshare Details for <servername>.csv Fileshare Exporter.exe /M Import /P C:\My Tools\Admin /F My Other Shares.hta - Will import settings from the file located in the folder C:\My Tools\Admin with the name My Other Shares.hta
