1 The EPHS Hockey Photo Website How to find and use the pictures you like on November 29, 2013 Introduction: Welcome to the EPHS boys hockey photo website. I hope that you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy taking them. This document will help you navigate, copy, and share photos from the site. Please note that the site is constantly being updated with new photos, and the organization of folders and galleries is subject to change. However, the general usage guidelines contained in this document will apply. If you have any questions feel free to send me an at tkruse69@me.com. 2 Browsing The first thing you will want to do is browse to photos of your athlete. The site is organized into Folders (multiple levels) that contain other Folders and/or Galleries. The Galleries contain pictures that you can browse, one at a time. The site is accessed using any web browser on any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Click this link; or type the url into your web browser. You will see the splash page for the site. It looks like this: Scroll down to see the tiled pictures beneath the banner. Each picture is a link to that picture in the gallery featured on the web page. Click the picture to that picture and gallery directly. You can also browse folders and galleries by clicking the BROWSE function. Currently there are three folders; Special Events, Varsity Games, and Junior Varsity Games. 2

3 Click any of these pictures to see the galleries within the folder. (Note: right now there is only one folder level, it is possible to put folders in folders.) Click the Varsity Games folder. You will see the picture galleries within it. Right now there is only one picture gallery in the Varsity Games folder. There will soon be more. Each gallery is labeled with the date and opponent. Click any of the gallery pictures to go to that gallery. Here s what the gallery viewing window looks like: The thumbnails on the left are all the pictures in the gallery. (There may be multiple pages, click the little right arrow > to go to the next page) Clicking a thumbnail image presents that 3

4 picture in the large window on the right. Use the right arrow or left arrow keys on your keyboard to go through all pictures one at a time. To get an even larger picture window click the large picture on the right. (Press esc or click the x at the upper right to go back to the gallery browser.) Copying, Printing, and Sharing When you find a picture you like, you may want to copy the file, print the picture, or share it on Facebook or other social media. Here s how. Copying The pictures are not protected and you can copy the picture to your computer or other device. The easiest way is to use the Download function. Look at the this image. There are some icons and fields beneath the picture on the right side of the gallery browser. Hover your mouse over any of the icons to see what it does. The one used to down load is on the far right. It has an arrow pointing down to a line. Click the download icon to put a copy of the picture in the Downloads area on your computer. One click does it. Printing Once you have the downloaded file you can send it to Walmart, Costco, Walgreens, wherever you like. The SmugMug site also has a printing service that will mail you a print, however, that function has been turned off. It is assumed that you will want to pick the printer that you like. In fact, I ll bet that most pictures are never printed, they are shared via social media or put into digital albums on your computer and shared electronically. (See the next section) 4

5 One caution about printing. All files are full-size. That is, they are the original size the were when exported from the photo editing process. However, they are not all the same size. The size depends on how the picture was cropped. A picture that cropped closely may not have enough pixels to print clearly in a large poster size. You can see the pixies size by clicking on the little i icon on the right beneath the large browser picture. You should follow the recommendations of your printer to determine if the picture will be clear when blown up in a large print. Sharing There is a Share function built into the website. You will find the icon to share beneath the picture on the left. (See image above) Clicking that link presents you with sharing options including; Facebook, Google+, Twitter, , and the option to get a url to this particular picture. After clicking a choice, follow the prompts on your computer or mobile device. That s it Easy Enjoy 5
