Windows Control (v ): Adjusting Settings for Use with Look to Learn Tobii Dynavox PCEye Mini Introduction Tobii Dyanvox has various eye gaze devices (hardware) on the market. The PCEye Mini is USB plug in device that allows eye tracking to be used as an access method for students with physical limitations. Through eye gaze students are able to access communication software, curricular software and desktop control, with any Windows (64-bit) 7, 8.1 or 10 operating system. Tobii Dyanvox has different software available (Classic Tobii Gaze Interaction Software (TGIS) and Windows Control) that change the way the eye trackers function on the computer (that the PCEye Mini may be plugged into). This tutorial focuses on device that has Windows Control Software (otherwise known as Windows Control 2 or Second Generation Windows Control) installed. Look to Learn software requires a basic left click to access the activities. Gaze Point is another mouse control software, released by Tobii Dynavox. This is an additional software download, and can be used instead of Windows Control on devices such as the PCEye Mini. It is a simple and easy interface to use, particularly if the student is only accessing Look to Learn software. Both Windows Control and Gaze Point can be installed on the one device, and used when needed. Gaze Point and Windows Control share User Profile and Calibration information, so there is no need to create different profiles for each software. Windows Control can be used with Look to Learn, and is explained in this tutorial too. The interface is slightly more complex than using Gaze Point. Choose either method according to your student and team skill. Learning Objectives Completion of this tutorial will give you experience with the following: Adjusting the settings of Gaze Point software to use with third party software, like Look to Learn, that requires a left mouse click, with a Tobii Dynavox eye tracker. Adjusting the settings of Windows Control software to use with third party software, like Look to Learn, that requires a left mouse click, with a Tobii Dynavox eye tracker. Page 1 of 8 July 2018
This tutorial assumes That you have completed the calibration process That you are using compatible hardware: Tobii Dynavox PCEye Go, PCEye Mini, PCEye Explore, PCEye Plus, EyeMobile, EyeMobile Mini, EyeMobile Plus, or Tobii 4C. That you have the most recent version of Windows Control installed (current version is ) Case Study Elaine is a grade 4 student with complex needs. She is non-verbal and communicates her needs and wants through light-tech eye gaze, gestures, vocalizations and facial expressions. She has involuntary movements in her limbs, and primitive reflexes such as her ATNR have not been integrated, causing pain and strain on her joints. Her team are working towards sustaining her eye gaze in motivating activities found in Look to Learn software. The team would like to see Elaine access communication using her PCEye Mini. 3 Installing Gaze Point Software and Adjusting Settings to Work with Look to Learn on a Tobii Dynavox Device Navigate to 1 US/software/free-resources/gaze-point/ and click Download 2 The most current version of Gaze Point will be available for download by clicking on the hyperlink. The installer will begin downloading at the bottom of the web browser. 3 Once the installer has been downloaded, the red eye icon will appear. Click the down arrow, and then click Open. Page 3 of 8 July 2018
4 A window will appear. Click to agree to the terms and conditions, and then click Install. 5 Once the installation is complete, a new window will appear. Click Close. 6 On your desktop locate the red window + eye icon, named Gaze Point and double click to launch the software. Make sure that Windows Control (green eye icon) is NOT running. A palate of four cells will appear. This is the same style, only a different color scheme to Windows Control. 7 If a User Profile has been set-up in Windows Control, it will automatically appear in the Gaze Point Software, under Active Calibration. Page 4 of 8 July 2018
8 If a profile does not appear click Settings, then click Create New Profile and follow the prompts to set-up a new profile and calibration. 9 From the main palate, click Turn On Click. This can be turned on/off using the F6 key. Take note of the 2 other functions on the palate: Pause (F4) and Show Cursor (F5), as these are helpful shortcuts when supporting an early eye gaze user. Minimize the palate, or leave it running on the desktop. From the desktop double click on the Look To Learn icon to launch the software. 10 As the mouse is set as left click, this action cannot be done with the eyes. A support person will need to complete this action for the user. Once the software is open, all elements within it are controlled with a left click, so the user can navigate independently. 11 For a new user, it is suggested for a support person to navigate to the desired activity for them, as they may not have developed the skill of sustaining eye gaze to make a selection, yet. Engage in the software as desired, and exit once complete. Refer to the Look to Learn tutorial for specific information on that software Page 5 of 8 July 2018
Adjusting Windows Control Settings to use with Look to Learn Software on a Tobii Dynavox Device 1 From the desktop click on the green windows + eye icon, to launch Windows Control. 2 A palate of four cells will appear. Click the Settings cell. 3 Click Taskbar. 4 Click the Taskbar tab. Click the Auto-Hide option on. F2 will toggle the taskbar on/off Page 6 of 8 July 2018
5 Click the Selection tab. Click the Tertiary Selection on. Click on the Zoom tab. 6 Drag Zoom Depth to Shallow. Drag Zoom Speed to Slow. Click Close, to go back to the desktop. 7 On the desktop, locate the Taskbar on the right side of the screen. Right click on the left click mouse icon. Select the Sticky Left Click icon, which is the mouse with the curved arrow. 8 From the desktop double click on the Look To Learn icon to launch the software. As the mouse is set as left click, this action cannot be done with the eyes. A support person will need to complete this action for the user (or use the taskbar to turn on double click, momentarily). Page 7 of 8 July 2018
Once the software is open, all elements within it, are controlled with a left click, so the user can navigate independently. 9 For a new user, it is suggested for a support person to navigate to the desired activity for them, as they may not have developed the skill of sustaining eye gaze to make a selection, yet. Engage in the software as desired, and exit once complete. Refer to the Look to Learn tutorial for specific information on that software Tips Always set-up and try the software on yourself, before using with a student. This will ensure you have the correct settings. An external keyboard is helpful for using Keyboard Shortcuts available in both Gaze Point and Look to Learn software. Page 8 of 8 July 2018
