5 2. Technical information 2.1 System requirements Please refer to the instruction leaflet and manual for the WERMA WIN system and the WERMA USB terminal element. 6 2.2 Safety instructions Caution! This device does not replace personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, feet protection, etc.). This system does not take the place or replace any machine guards, machine safety guards, safety devices, safety procedures, or supervision. Always test this device, as well as all machine guards and safeguards, to ensure they are functional at start-up of each shift. Always take machine out of service until worn out parts are replaced. Whenever removing guards, always enforce OSHA lock-out / tag-out regulations. 9 3. Important Information Note: The WIN software V or higher has to be installed and has to be running on the PC. This application can only be used on the PC to which the WIN master/receiver is connected. The DLL slma.dll has to be stored in the same folder as the WINtoUSB.exe. There is no possibility to distinguish between permanent and blinking light. You must have administrator rights to install the WIN software. Version

10 4. Activation 1. Start your PC. 2. Start the WIN V or higher software. 3. Connect the WIN master/receiver to your PC using the USB cable supplied. 4. The WIN slaves/transmitters can be fitted to the signal towers. 5. Wait until all WIN slaves/transmitters are connected to the WIN master/receiver. 6. Insert the CD WINtoUSB into the CD-ROM drive of your PC. 7. Copy the WINtoUSB.exe, slma.dll, smla_x64.dll, WERMA-Logic.mdb and instructions WINtoUSB. 8. Copy the files into the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WERMA-WIN-3.0\ for Windows XP and for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 into C:\ProgramData\WERMA\WERMA- WIN-3.0\. 9. Connect the WERMA USB Terminal Element to your PC. 10. Start WINtoUSB.exe. The application automatically selects all available WIN slaves/transmitters from the WERMA-WIN database. Version

11 11. Select the Status transmission tab in the WIN Software under the Settings menu and click on Edit. 12. Check the Transmit status to application box and select the file WINtoUSB.exe. Enter the parameters as shown below: %name% %state1% %state2% %state3% %state4% Version

12 13. Save the settings by clicking OK. 14. Go to the Control station main view and activate the status transmission for each WIN slave/transmitter by clicking on the envelope symbol. Version

13 15. In this window you can activate the status transmission for each individual tier. You can also use the time delay option to specify when you wish to be informed, i.e. the minimum time that the signal status must exist before the application is started. 16. Save the settings by clicking OK. 17. Repeat step 13. to 15. for each WIN slave/tranmitter. Note: If the status transmission of a WIN slave/transmitter is not activated then you have to set the logic setting for this WIN slave/transmitter to Don t Care X. Version

14 5. Logic settings for the USB Terminal Element 5.1 Explanation 1. Open the WINtoUSB.exe. 2. By clicking on the buttons Tier 1 to Tier 4 the logic settings for this tier will be opened. 3. The following example shows the settings for the first tier of the USB Terminal Element. The first column (Name of WIN slave/transmitter) shows all of the WIN slaves/transmitters which are contained in the WERMA-WIN database. The second column (Tier of WIN slave/transmitter) contains the four tiers of each WIN slave/transmitter, even if a WIN slave/transmitter only has one, two or three tiers. Version

15 The third column (USB output tier1) contains the logic for the first tier of the USB Terminal Element. You can choose between 3 values for each tier of a signal tower with WIN slave/transmitter: o o o 0 the tier has to be OFF (Default) 1 the tier has to be ON X Don t care, the state of this tier does not affect the logic If the box OR assignment is activated then the first tier of the USB Terminal Element will be on if only one WIN slave/transmitter is on. It is an OR assignment between each WIN slave/transmitter. Version

16 4. By clicking on Save the settings will be stored in the database. 5. Please close the WINtoUSB.exe and restart it, than you get the current status of all signal towers with WIN slaves/transmitters. Note: If the status transmission of a WIN slave/transmitter is not activated then you have to set the logic setting for this WIN slave/transmitter to Don t Care X. Version

17 5.2 Example The first tier of the USB Terminal Element should be activated if the first signal module on every WIN slave/transmitter is on. The third tier of the USB Terminal Element should be activated if at least on one of the third signal module is on. 1. Open the logic settings for tier 1. By clicking on the elements of the column USB output tier 1 you can change the value. With these settings the first tier of the signal tower with USB Terminal Element will be on if only the first tier of all signal towers with WIN slaves/transmitters is on. Version

18 2. Now open the logical settings for tier 3. With these settings the third tier of the signal tower with USB Terminal Element will be on as soon as on at least one signal tower with WIN slave/transmitter the third signal module is on. Version
