1 IT Services Home Use OriginLab for Students For Windows (32-bit & 64-bit). 0BAbout This Guide This guide will help Students to install and licence OriginLab for Windows onto their home use computer. 1BWhat You Will Need To successfully install OriginLab onto your home use Windows computer, you will need: Operating System: o Windows 8. o Windows 8.1. o Windows 10 System Requirements: o 1.5 GHz Pentium-compatible processor. o 1 GB of RAM or greater. o 2 GB of available hard disk space or greater. o Administrator Rights. Additional requirements to use certain features: o Internet Connectivity. o Internet Explorer 4.01 or later. To check your computer specifications, follow: Start > Control Panel > System. If you are unsure about your computer specification and would like some help with this then you can visit our free PC Clinic team in the Pilkington library who will be able to check this for you. For opening hours and more information about the PC Clinic visit the following link: To install this program you will need to download the: OriginLab for Windows Student Home use zip file from the Loughborough University LEARN website. NOTE: Click this link to the Product Key Request page to get a Product Key. On this page, click the Request button and an containing a Product Key will be sent to you. Please use the Product Key you receive to activate Origin on your computer. (Help: About Origin, then click the License button). Last Modified: December 18. Page 1 of 12

2 2BInstalling the Application onto Your Computer This guide is for correctly installing and licensing OriginLab onto a Students home use Windows computer. 1. Open the folder that you downloaded for LEARN: OriginLab for Windows Student Home use, and open the file: Origin2015Sr2H.exe. 2. If a message appears asking you to allow the program to make changes to your computer, click Yes. The following file extraction screen will appear. 3. Once the files have been extracted, the following Origin Setup screen will appear. 4. From this screen press Next to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 2 of 12

3 5. Read through the License Agreement and then press the Yes button to accept the agreement and proceed to the next stage of the installation. 6. Form this screen select the Install Product (Requires serial number) option and then press Next to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 3 of 12

4 7. Enter in a username of your choice, the company name: Loughborough University and the serial number provided in the text file called: Studentkey.txt. The Serial number is: GF3S You can also copy and paste it in from the document Student-key.txt. Press Next to continue once the details have been entered. 8. A confirmation box will appear asking if the details are correct. If they are, press Yes to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 4 of 12

5 9. A message informing you that you need administrator privileges to complete installation will appear. Tick the box for: Yes, launch Origin as Administrator after the installation finishes and then press Next to continue. 10. Choose which version of Origin to install. For this guide, the option for Both 32 bit and 64 bit Origin installations has been selected. Press Next to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 5 of 12

6 11. Ensure that the Destination Directory for OriginLab is in the C:\ and then press Next to continue. 12. A message informing you that the directory specified does not exist will appear. The message will ask you if you want the setup to create the directory. Press Yes to continue. 13. Ensure that the English Help Files option is checked and then press Next to continue. 7 14. Select if you only want the currently logged on user to be able access the program or if you want all users of your computer to be able to access the program. All users has been selected for this guide. Once you have chosen, press Next to continue. 15. This screen is informing you of where the icons for this program will be placed. In this case it is in the Program Folder: OriginLab\Origin2015. Do not change anything and press Next to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 7 of 12

8 16. Review the settings to ensure that they are saving in the correct place and then press Next to continue. 17. The program will now install. This could take a few minutes to complete. Once it has finished, the following screen will appear. 18. Check the two boxes at the bottom of the window and then press Next to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 8 of 12

9 19. If the program does not open automatically, go to Start > OriginLab > Origin2015 > (Right Click) Origin 2015 > Run as administrator. 20. When the program opens, make sure that the file path to the Users Files Folder leads to a location in your My Documents folder. A typical file path is: C:\Documents and Settings\ User Name\ My Documents. In this folder, create an empty file called OriginLab and then within this create another folder with a suitable name for the User Files. Once a suitable location has been chosen, press OK to continue. 21. Select the option Get a license file online now. This computer has internet access and press OK to continue. 22. In the boxes should be: The serial number entered earlier, your computers name and an Origin computer ID. Press OK to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 9 of 12

10 23. A webpage will be opened and you will be asked to login using a valid OriginLab account. If you already have an account, log in. If you do not already have an OriginLab account, click on Create a new account and then enter in your details. You MUST use a Loughborough University student (@student.lboro.ac.uk) to obtain the license. 24. Once you have logged in, you will see this screen. 25. On the website, enter in the Access code: This code is also available from the text file: Student-key.txt. Press the Submit button to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 10 of 12

11 26. A License file will now be generated on the website. Copy the text for the license file from the window on the webpage and then go back onto the OriginLab program and paste the license file text into the following window. 27. Once the license file text has been copied in to the license field, press OK to continue. Last Modified: December 18. Page 11 of 12

12 28. If the program accepts the license file, the message above will have appeared. Press OK to exit. 29. Restart the computer and the program is now ready to use. 3BCan I get more information and help?
