1 Requirements The RT module VT6000 can be used to enhance the RT performance of CANoe by distributing the real-time part of CANoe to a dedicated RT execution platform (unlike a normal office PC). Several versions of the real-time module are available. They differ from one another mainly in terms of their processors, memory, and number of PCI Express channels. They do not differ in their usage, and most of the instructions in this manual apply to all versions of the module. The name VT6000 refers to all the different versions of the module, e.g. VT6010, VT6011, VT6050(A), VT6051(A). In order to establish a connection between the GUI-part of CANoe (run on the PC) and the RT-part (run on VT6000) some steps must be taken as described in the following pages. A local installation of CANoe version 7.2 SP5 or later is required with the latest version of Vector Driver (which can be found for download from Vector Download center, Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
2 Connecting the hardware Connect an Ethernet crossover or patch cable from PC to the upper most Ethernet port on VT6000. From the next Ethernet port down on VT6000 connect an Ethernet crossover or patch cable to the right most port on the VT backplane. VT6000 and VT6104/6204 are to be connected together with a PCI Express cable (included with VT6104/6204). Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
3 Static IP address on local PC It is recommended that the network card on the local PC which is connected to VT6000 as well as the VT6000 should have a static IP address. These IP addresses must be on the same subnet. The default IP address of VT6000 is To change IP address of VT6000 see point 11. Note: Depending on firewall or other security software these might need to be turned off temporarily, or the default IP address of VT6000 might need to be changed, for the connection to function without intervention. Please check with your IT department how to configure this properly in your network. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
4 Update CANoe and/or Vector Driver on VT6000 Power the VT system. It might take up to 1 minute before VT6000 has booted and is connectable from the PC. Start CANoe and go to Configuration/Options/Extensions/CANoe RT, the connected VT6000 should be visible in the list of connected RT servers. The versions of CANoe on VT6000 and the PC must be compliant. If they differ, choose Update CANoe software from the Edit... menu dropdown list. From the same list it is also possible to update the drivers on VT6000 by choosing the option Update drivers. If the Vector Platform Manager (VTP) is installed on the PC and VT6000, it can be used to install drivers and change IP settings on the VT6000. Make sure CANoe is not connected to the VT6000 when using the VTP. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
5 Starting Vector Hardware Config on VT VT6000 without Vector Platform Manager (VTP) installed To make changes on the VT6000 in VT System you must perform a remote login with Remote desktop. From Configuration/Options/Extensions/CANoe RT choose Remote desktop from the Edit menu dropdown list. Log in to the VT6000 with the following credentials: User Account: Administrator Password: <blank> In the RuntimeServer.exe console window type hwconfig to start Vector Hardware Config. From here you can check your licenses, map application channels and so on. After changes have been made to the configuration wait approx. 10 seconds after closing Vector Hardware Config (to make sure changes are saved in Windows Registry). In the RuntimeServer.exe console window now type explorer to open a Windows Explorer window. Execute the file PersistVectorHardwareConfiguration.bat which is found on the root of C:\. Changes should now be saved and the Remote Desktop connection can be closed. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
5.2 VT6000 with Vector Platform Manager (VTP) installed Starting with the Vector Driver Setup 10.0 the Vector Platform Manager is installed on the VT6000. It replaces the RuntimeServer window with the Control Service Console. The console supplies buttons to directly start a Command window, Windows System Control Panel, Vector Hardware Configuration or to reboot the VT6000. When using the VTP to start the Vector Hardware Configuration to map the application channels it is not necessary to persist the setting. The settings are automatically persisted, it is not required to run the file PersistVectorHardwareConfiguration.bat after the change. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
6 Run CANoe RT on VT6000 In the Configuration/Options/Extensions/CANoe RT, click Connect in order to establish a connection between PC and VT System. Current state information row should now state Connected with if the connection is successful. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
7 Enable VT system To enable VT system check the check box VT System enabled in the Configuration/Options/Extensions/VT System window. Choose the correct network adapter for VT6000 (Intel 82574L Gigabit Network Connection) which is used by VT6000 to communicate with the VT systems backplane. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
8 No modules found on VT system If CANoe is unable to find any VT-modules after enabling VT System and the connection between VT6000 and PC is working, check that the correct network adapter is configured according to step 7. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
9 Changing IP address on VT6000 See chapter 5.2 VT6000 with Vector Platform Manager (VTP) installed if the Vector Tool Platform is installed on the PC instead of using the following procedure. a) Start remote desktop and connect to (default IP address of VT6000). User name: Administrator, Password: <blank> b) Open the control panel of the remote computer by using the command syspanel in RuntimeServer.exe console window. Set the new IP address of VT6000 (Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection), for example to Now the connection will be lost (IP addresses of the connection do not match anymore). c) Change the IP address of the PC network adapter, connected to VT6000, to an address on the same subnet, for example to (see point 3). d) Create a new remote desktop connection using the new IP address e) In RuntimeServer.exe console window of remote computer, use the command explorer in order to open Windows Explorer. Execute file PersistIPConfiguration in C:\, in order to not lose this setting at next boot-up. Version of Guide to getting started with VT6000 and VT6104/ / 16
10 VT6104/6204 without VT6000 If operating a VT system with VT6104/6204 but without VT6000 the PCI Express cable from VT6104/6204 needs to be connected to the PC running CANoe. An appropriate adapter is needed in order to connect the cable to PC and also installed drivers for VT6104/6204. Note: Drivers for VT6104 are only compatible with 32 bit OS (Windows XP/7, 32 bit).
