1 MULTITERM Pro RF The MULTITERM Pro RF (MT Pro) application is the latest generation of software for hand-held terminals from Kamstrup. As with the WORKABOUT PRO terminal from Psion Teklogix, the application constitutes a new platform for the mobile workforce. This manual contains a detailed description of the available features. To obtain a general practical introduction, we recommend the keyboard overview, which is described briefly in the next paragraph. 1.1 Keyboard overview The purpose of the keyboard overview is to give the user an easy overview of the most used short cuts in MT Pro. Therefore, the overview will often follow MT Pro and the mobile worker as a quick short cut to the most used functions. G2 1

G3 1.2 Product overview Hardware specification There are two versions of MT Pro: G2 and G3. G2 refers to the former version of the hand-held terminal from Psion Teklogix, whereas G3 refers to the current version. Apart from small changes to the keyboard as well as the features of the function keys, the differences between G2 and G3 are: Description MT Pro G2 MT Pro G3 Processor 520 MHz 624 MHz Display Memory 256 MB ROM / 128 MB RAM 1 GB ROM / 256 MB RAM 2

The hand-held terminal is adapted to varying working conditions and is solid and practical to use. This is confirmed by the following features: - The terminal complies with standard IP 54 (water and dust protection) - The terminal can be used at temperatures from -10 C to +50 C - Temperature shock: +/-20 C during a period of 10 minutes - Fall tested on concrete floor from 1.1 m mah battery - Backup battery with 5 years' service life - Kamstrup's self-developed RF link integrated in the hand-held terminal. In addition, the hand-held terminal is provided with a lithium battery with maximal capacity and a backup battery which provides power in case the main battery must be replaced. WORKABOUT PRO from Psion has been provided with a number of features that make MULTITERM Pro user-friendly. However, due to the large power consumption of the hand-held terminal, it is recommended to place it in the docking station as often as possible. For users primarily working on location, it is recommended to use CarKit to continuously supply power to the hand-held terminal Meters supported by MT Pro G2 and G3 Heat meters: MULTICAL 801 MULTICAL 601 MULTICAL 601 with top module 66C MULTICAL 602 MULTICAL 401 MULTICAL 402 MULTICAL Compact MULTICAL 66-CDE MULTICAL III MAXICAL III (only optical eye) Electricity meters: 162/ (not logging data) 351 (not logging data) 382 BCDE (not logging data) Electronic water meters: MULTICAL 41 EVL meters: EVL 9 EVL 10 EVL 11 Landis+Gyr meters: Contact Kamstrup Metering Systems Division for further information. 3

In addition, the following is supported: Reading of RF M-Bus Protocol Converter (not logging data) Reading of RadioRouter module for MULTICAL Frequency Kamstrup's self-produced radio card supports all available frequencies on Kamstrup's markets. Therefore, the following radio frequencies are supported: DK EU NO SE FI PL 1.3 Capacity It is recommended to collect readings in a number of route files rather than to collect all readings in one large route file. Specifically, the following is recommended: - routes with up to 500 meters - up to a total of 3,500 meters. If this recommendation is not followed, it might result in a poorer performance of MT Pro. 1.4 Data security The MT Pro application and data are stored in Flash Memory to prevent data from being lost, e.g. when changing batteries or when losing power in another way. 1.5 Copyrights Kamstrup's self-developed radio module must be integrated in WORKABOUT PRO to start MT Pro G2 and G3. Thus, Kamstrup reserves the right solely to use the preinstalled MT Pro G2 and G3 application on hand-held terminals procured by Kamstrup. Likewise, Kamstrup cannot support third-party software installed on the hand-held terminal or problems caused by this software. 1.6 Regeneration of the system The hand-held terminal cannot lose data (see the paragraph Data security, p. 4). If the MT Pro application should get into a state where it does not respond to conventional inputs, it might be necessary to regenerate the system. By doing this, the application closes and is reloaded without loss of data. A system regeneration is done by pressing the ENTER key and the blue function key for 6-8 seconds. 4

1.7 Program updates Program updates are made available via CD or via download. Program updates are installed on MT Pro by an update program. Start the application, and follow the instructions: 5

2.3.9 Select supported meter types Different meter types and brands make use of different communication protocols. This means that MT Pro must either know which protocol each meter is using or try on its own among all the protocols that are known to it. The last option inevitably implies that a reading may take a long time. When reading from a route, the necessary information comes from PcBase III. In connection with ad hoc readings carried out serially or with the optical eye, the reading time can be reduced by deselecting the meter types that are not available. In this way, the time that MT Pro spends on finding the right communication protocol is reduced. 22

3 System overview 3.1 How to receive/send routes Terminology MT Pro is based on routes which contain the plan for readings. By this is understood a description of the individual meters in relation to the following: - Which meter type should be read? - Which registers should be read (defined in PcBase III)? - Which reading type? MT Pro acts upon the information available in the route file and created on the PC. When the reading is done, the route file is transferred to the PC, but this time it is filled with the respective meter data collected during the reading How to receive routes In connection with the features Receive routes/send data, please be aware of the performance limitations of MT Pro (see the paragraph Capacity, p. 4). Select Receive routes in the main menu: 23

Now, MT Pro looks into the route library of the connected PC to see the route files that can be collected: Select the route files to collect by scrolling down to the route file in question, and press ENTER: Press Get routes to collect the selected routes. 24

3.1.3 How to send data (route files) Select Send data when route files must be returned from MT Pro to the PC: Thereby, an overview appears of available routes that are ready to be transferred to the PC. Select which routes to send by pressing the ENTER key and Send routes. Thereby, the selected routes are transferred to the route library of the PC which must be defined in the PcBase III system in advance. 25

3.2 How to read from route Terminology MT Pro is based on the required readings being included in routes defined in PcBase III. The respective routes may consist of an arbitrary number of meters to be read. These readings can be either optical, manual or readings via radio. If for instance the reading is executed via radio, the meters in question are read, while the remaining optical meters are left for subsequent optical reading Read from route Select Read from route: An overview of routes available in MT Pro appears: 26

By pressing Select, the individual meters in the route file appear: The icons indicate the type of reading: Optical reading Radio reading Manual reading Detailed information about the meter In the route overview, the bottom third of the window contains primary information about the meter. Press the D key to display detailed information about all available data. See the window below to the left where the meter overview shows primary information, while the window to the right shows all available data when pressing the D key. After the reading, the extended display (to the right) shows the registers which the reading job selected in the window to the left contains. 27

3.3 How to read via radio Terminology Kamstrup offers two types of radio reading. These have been adapted to the various user scenarios that are known from the previous generations of hand-held terminals. 1. Radio reading all routes : This type searches for available meters (included in routes on MT Pro) and thereby executes readings continuously. When the reading is done, MT Pro looks for new meters that have not yet been read. This kind of reading can rightly be used when there is no concrete knowledge about the number of available meters. MT Pro finds a maximum of 12 available meters, reads them, and searches for new meters included in routes that have not yet been read (see the paragraph Radio reading all routes, p. 28). 2. Read the next three : Reads as far as possible the next 3 meters on the route. This kind of reading can rightly be used when a route must be strictly adhered to (see the paragraph Read next three reading, p. 29) Radio reading all routes Radio reading can be started in the route overview or in the meter overview by pressing the A key. See the windows below where the window to the right illustrates the content of the route ( Kærsangervej ) selected in the window to the left. 28

Press the A key to start the radio reading: In this window, the following information appears: - Number of read meters - New meters found (not yet read) - Which meters are being read now - Detailed information about the meter concerned (name, meter number, etc.) It is possible to continuously follow the number of read meters, which new meters have been found, and detailed information about the individual meter. The reading can be stopped by pressing Stop reading Read next three reading This kind of reading can rightly be used when you wish the readings to follow a route. This feature can be started wherever required in the route file by scrolling down to a start address. In this way, you do not have to follow the route file from start to finish. Enter the route overview, select the route which should be read, and press Select: 29

Use the navigation button to scroll down to the address where the reading should start: Then press the R key (for radio reading), and the next three radio reading now starts with the selected start address as a starting point (in the example shown Sneppevej 10 ): It is possible to interrupt the reading by pressing Back, after which another address on the route can be selected, and the reading can be started again. 30

3.4 How to read optically How to read a single meter optically When reading by optical eye, it is necessary to select a route that contains optical reading: This icon shows that this is an optical reading. Press Enter to start the optical reading. Note Place the optical eye correctly on the meter How to automatically read optically The automatic optical reading automatically finds the meter in the route file. In this way, you do not have to find the particular meter in the route file. As in the case of reading a single meter (see the paragraph How to read a single meter, p. 31), you must open the route file on the hand-held terminal and press the O key (not to be confused with numerical 0). In this way, MT Pro proactively contacts the correct meter, and the reading starts. 31

3.5 How to read manually MT Pro offers the possibility of manual reading. By manual reading is meant the reading of meters that are not included in available routes on the hand-held terminal. Select Manual reading in the main menu: You now have the following options: Select Radio or Optical when the reading of a specific radio meter, and when the meter number is known in advance. Select Manual when reading a meter by manual entry on the hand-held terminal. This feature can be used e.g. to read a defective meter, where the only possibility of reading is by manually inserting the various values read on the display of the meter. 32

3.5.1 Manual reading (radio) 1. Select Radio, and an overview of available templates appears: Note Only templates defined in PcBase III are available. 2. Enter the number of the meter that you wish to read: 3. Press ENTER to start the reading. 33

The meter is read Manual reading (optical) As with manual radio reading, an overview of available templates appears, which in the following is illustrated by Heat S3 : 1. Place the optical eye on the meter, or connect the external plug for reading. 2. Select the required reading job, and press ENTER. 34

3.5.3 Manual reading (manual input) This feature can be used when it is not possible to execute an optical or radio reading. Select Manual, and an overview of available templates appears: Select for example Heat S3, and the following template is shown: Here, you can enter the registrations of the meter manually. Note This feature is completed (and data saved) by pressing ENTER after inserting registrations in the last field. 35

When entering data manually, do not enter separating characters or units. For a meter that e.g. shows 123,456 MWh, enter Subsequently, PcBase III makes sure to show decimals and units correctly How to remove templates Press the keys ORANGE+I to remove templates from the hand-held terminal. 3.6 How to add event code It is possible to add comments about meters. Three event codes are available: Meter info Customer info Free text. Press the B key in the meter overview to access this feature is used. An overview of the three above event codes now appears: Here, it is possible to add information about the meter, the customer, or as free text, where you can enter your own comments. 36

Add meter info and Add customer info contain codes that have been defined in PcBase III. If you for example wish to add a comment on the customer, select Add customer info, and the following options are shown: Here, you can for example select the comment 01 Meter broken. 3.7 Search It is possible to search for meter data available on the hand-held terminal. Select Search in the main menu: 37

The search menu looks as follows: The hand-held terminal is provided with an intelligent search function. For instance, if king is written in the search field, results starting with king, e.g. Kings Street or Kings Road, appear. You can search by the following parameters: - Address - Meter number - Meter type - Event code - Readout method - Entering data in the free text field from MT Pro's keyboard. Note The search includes all available routes on the hand-held terminal. 38

4 How to configure a meter MT Pro supports a number of features for the configuration of MULTICAL. The features that are configurable depend on each meter type and its configuration. 4.1 How to configure a meter via radio Enter the meter number in the field, and press ENTER. 39

You now have the following options: How to initialise a radio module If for instance the meter number of the meter has been changed by the hand-held terminal with optical eye, an initialisation can be sent subsequently to also establish the new meter number for the radio module. However, the radio module automatically collects the new meter number together with the remaining data within 24 hours. Enter the old meter number, and press ENTER: Now, the meter can be read with the new meter number. 40

4.1.2 How to measure SNR Select Measure SNR. MT Pro now measures SNR in relation to both the radio module and the integrated radio card. Measuring SNR of radio module Measuring SNR of RadioRouter module The screenshots above illustrate the latest measurement by the number(s) at the top. At SNR on RadioRouter module and Protocol Converter, two SNR values are displayed. The MT Pro value is the value that the hand-held terminal measures, and the module value is the value that the module measures. Note MT Pro needs 5-10 seconds to collect information about the SNR measurement. 4.2 How to configure a meter via optical eye The features that are configurable depend on each meter type and its configuration. For further information, see the technical description of each meter. 41
