1 User Installation Guide for Merlin Customer Edition (DVD/USB) 1. General Information This software was developed in-house over many years in tandem with the development of the tinters and other components used for point of sale colour mixing. While the colour-mixing principles remain necessarily embedded within the software logic, all of the parameter values have now been moved to maintainable database tables. This allows for the mixing ratios and other rules to be maintained directly, and for new product lines to be set up from scratch, without the need for further software changes (provided the underlying principles do not change). The Merlin Installation USB Flash Disk can be obtained by request from any PPG Sales Representative. The software can also be downloaded from the PPG New Zealand or PPG Australia websites as per the url links below: PPG New Zealand URL PPG Australia URL

2 The USB Flash contains all the necessary pre-requisite applications and the full Merlin Customer Edition suite of applications on the USB Flash Disk are the following applications are available for installation: MerlinAutoInstall (Version ) MerlinCE (Version ) MerlinFMCE ( ) MerlinCustomerUpdater (Version ) MerlinCustomerUpgrade (Merlin Customer Upgrade Application Version ) Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition Microsoft.NET Framework Clients 3.5 & 4.0 Microsoft Windows Installer Dymo SDK + Software 2. Clean Installation using USB Flash Disk - Computers that have not had Merlin installed on them previously. Please insert the USB Flash Disk MerlinAutoInstall.exe. Will load and run automatically from the autorun.inf file. If MerlinAutoInstall.exe does not automatically start you can locate the application in the root directory of the USB FlashDisk and run MerlinAutoInstall.exe by double clicking on it.

3 The install application will install all the Microsoft perquisites first and then it will install PPG Merlin Customer Edition. The applications install in the following order: Install Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 and 4.0 Clients (repairs them if already installed) Install Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition (repairs it if already installed) Install MerlinCE, Merlin FMCE, Merlin CustomUpgrade, MerlinCustomerUpdater Applications 2.1 Using Merlin Auto Install Application Steps to Install Microsoft Pre-requisites and Merlin Software. 1. Click the Start Installation button. The click the yes button to start the installation.

4 2. Click Yes button when message box displays 3. Click Accept button to accept the licence for installation of.net Framework Click Finish to complete installation of.net Framework 3.5

5 5. Click OK to move on to next step, installing Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0

6 6. Select Install or Repair and then click the Next button 7. Click the Finish button when the Install Is Complete or Repair Is Complete dialogue box shows.

7 8. When the message dialogue box shows, click only the Restart Later button. DO NOT CLICK THE Restart Now button. When this message box shows, click the OK button. Clicking the Restart Now button will cause your computer to reboot and will abort the Merlin installation. Always select Restart Later. 9. Click the OK button. 10. When the SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 ENU Installer message box shows click the Next button.

8 11. Select Repair or Install and click the Next button. 12. At completion of the install or repair click the Finish button

9 Then click the OK button. 13. Click the Next > button

10 14. Accept the licencing agreement and click the Next > button 16. Enter your username and business / organisation information and click the Next > button

11 17. Then click the Install button. 18. Then click the Finish button.

12 19. All software should now be installed. 20. If the green reboot computer button is active this means you will need to reboot the computer before using Merlin. Click the reboot computer button now. If the blue reboot computer button is grey (disabled) after the installation you do not need to reboot the computer. Once you have completed this final installation you will have successfully installed Merlin Customer Edition. End of Document
