1 Eutaxa Installation Guide for Windows 10 Wolfgang Lechthaler The present paper provides a detailed guidance for the installation of the Eutaxa software on Windows 10. Before starting the installation, please print the manual, read it carefully and follow the instructions to avoid setup problems. Don't be put off by the length of the guide. It is easier than it looks. Please mind that antivirus systems and firewalls may impede the install process. In case of troubles during the setup, cancel the connection to the internet and disable your protection system until the installation has finished. Neither the install shield nor the Eutaxa software need an internet access. When carrying out these instructions, the installation process should complete successfully. Usually all products run on Windows 10 without problems, but the operating system causes one error: The Matrix-table of the Query Key remains invisible. Unfortunately this error will persist, until a new version of the Eutaxa software is available. 1

2 Hardware & Software The electronic identification keys of Eutaxa are available on CD-ROM or DVD, and delivered together with a hardware copy protection key of the Wibu Systems Company. This copy protection key (named Wibu Key) must be connected to a free USB-port on the computer, in order to unlock a variable number of installed programs, according to the user's requirements. When purchasing new products, the present Wibu Key can be activated per , or, if desired, the new products may be unlocked by additional Wibu Keys, allowing the user to run the programs on different machines at the same time. Example of a product CD/DVD Wibu Key (hardware copy protection key) The Eutaxa software consists of the following elements, which are stored on each CD/DVD. The product-specific software, including database, images and product-relevant files Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1. to run the program Microsoft SQL Server 2002 to run the program Wibu Key driver Usual Steps of the Install Process (First Installation) When running the first product setup, usually the modules.net Framework 1.1, SQL Server 2002 and the Wibu Key driver will be installed. These three procedures will be executed once, during the first setup. In all subsequent product setups, the install shield skips these operations and only the product-specific software, including database, images and product-relevant files, will be copied. When installing the first Eutaxa product, the process usually starts with the installation of Microsoft.Net Framework 1.1 and continues with the SQL Server Accordingly, the product software will be copied and database and SQL Server will be linked. Finally, the program installs the Wibu Key driver and the setup completes. After a restart, the user connects the Wibu Key to a free USB-port and the hardware driver will be installed. In all further product setups, the program exclusively installs the product-specific software and connects database and SQL Server. If the automatic linkage breaks, the user has to carry out this operation manually. In Windows 10, the install process will be modified and the user has to carry out some necessary corrections during the first setup, which are described on the following pages. 2

3 INSTALLATION First Steps Adding the English Language Installation of Microsoft.NET Framework Installation of the SQL Server Installation of the first Product CD/DVD Connecting SQL Server and Database Installation of the Wibu Key Driver Replacement of the 32-bit Driver Order of Products Installation The Eutaxa Software was developed in 2004, in order to run the programs on a 32-bit operating system up to Windows XP. All components of the software are compatible with later operating systems (Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10), but you have to execute some additional installations when running the setup on Windows 10. The pages contain a detailed description of these procedures. An installation on Windows 10 requires the following corrective operations, which are carried out once, before or after the setup of the first product: Adding the English Language (required) The installation of the 64-bit Wibu key driver may brake if the driver software does not recognize the language of your operating system. This error may happen when using operating systems with Slavonian languages (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, etc.). To circumvent this problem, it is necessary to add the English language before installing the driver software. Please mind that this modification does not affect the language setting of your system you just add the English language, allowing the Wibu Key driver to access a known operating language during the setup. You may find a detailed description on pages Manual Installation of.net Framework 1.1 (required) Before running the setup of the first product, you have to install the program.net Framework 1.1 from the CD/DVD. During the installation on Windows 8 and 10, the system automatically tries to download and install the latest version of this program module. It does not matter if you download and install a newer version (4.5 or higher) on your PC by mistake, but the Eutaxa software requires an older version and exclusively runs with Microsoft.NET-Framework 1.1. Manual Installation of the SQL Server 2008 Express (required) The SQL Server 2002 is the only program element of the Eutaxa software that is not compatible with the new operating system Windows 10. To avoid troubles during the installation, you have to install a newer server version, the SQL Server 2008 Express. Before running the installation of the first product, you have to download an English version of this server from the Microsoft Website and to install it on your machine. Replacement of the 32-bit Wibu Key Driver (required) During the setup of the first product (except for Ephemeroptera 14), a 32-bit Wibu Key driver will be installed automatically. After the product setup, the 32-bit driver must be replaced by a 64-bit driver, which is compatible with your operating system. This procedure is not necessary when installing the newest product of the Eutaxa series, the key to Ephemeroptera larvae (2014). This program includes both driver versions and installs the 64-bit driver automatically. Attention: Please run all installations of the Eutaxa software as administrator: Move the mouse cursor over the install file, hit the right mouse button and choose the command Run as Administrator. Do not start an installation with a double-click. 3

4 First Steps The installation requires a Wibu Key driver and SQL Server download from different websites. In case of setup troubles, caused by the protection system of the computer, you may have to disconnect the internet access temporarily to allow a successful installation. This is the reason why it is useful to carry out the downloading before running the setup, and to store the required files in a directory of the Windows Explorer. Generating a Directory Create a new folder Eutaxa Install W10 in any directory of your Windows Explorer. Create two subfolders, named SQL Server 2008 and Wibu64bit. The folder Wibu64bit for the storage of the 64-bit Wibu Key driver is not necessary when installing the Ephemeroptera key (2014). This newest product installs the appropriate 64- bit driver automatically, so that you need not download and install a new driver version. Storage of the Installation files First, insert the product CD/DVD. Break the setup by hitting the Cancel-button (if the Autorun-function is not disabled) and search in the directory of the CD/DVD for the folder DotNetfx or dotnetfx. Copy the complete folder into the Eutaxa Install W10 folder. Move over the link to the website of Microsoft. Choose the English language, hit Download to switch to the next page and select the file SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe. Click on Next and store the exe-file in the subfolder SQL Server Finally, move to the website of Wibu Systems over the link Choose the English language, enter the page Support & Downloads and follow the path User/ User Software/WibuKey for Users/WibuKey Runtime for Windows. Search for the file WkRuntime64.exe. Download and store the file in the subfolder Wibu64bit. After storing the files, execute the following steps of the installation: Installation Process (First Installation) 1. Add the English language to your operating languages (not required when the standard language of your operating system is German or English). 2. Install.Net Framework 1.1 from the Explorer folder. 3. Install the SQL Server 2008 Express from the Explorer folder. 4. Insert the CD/DVD and run the setup. 5. Connect SQL Server and database manually (not required when installing Ephemeroptera 14). 6. Remove the installed 32-bit Wibu Key driver and replace it by the 64-bit driver (not required when installing Ephemeroptera 14). 7. Connect the Wibu Key to a free USB-port. After the installation of the hardware driver, the Eutaxa software can be started. In all subsequent installations, carry out step 4 and, if necessary, step 5. The Wibu Key may remain on the port during all setups. All steps of the install process are described and illustrated on the following pages: 4

5 1. Adding the English Language Please carry out these modifications first, before running the installations. This activity is not necessary when using operating systems with German or English language. Open the Control Panel and select Time & Language (see next figure, indicated by a red arrow). In the next window choose Region & language. If English (United Kingdom) is listed and already installed (as shown in the image) close the window. If the language does not appear in the list of operating languages, hit the key Add a language (next figure, indicated by a red arrow) to open the Add a language window. Search for English (United Kingdom) and select the item. 5

6 Back on the Time & Language screen, select the added language and hit the Options-button (next figure, red arrow) to download install the language pack. Do not enable the Set as default button, to keep your language setting. The English language is now part of the operating languages and the Wibu Key driver can access during the driver setup. Before starting the Installation Make sure that the technical conditions of your computer allow the installation of the Eutaxa software: Windows operating systems: XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or MB of available hard-disc space (depending on the product) CD-ROM or DVD drive (depending on the product) Internet Explorer 6 or higher the installation requires administrator rights free USB-port Avoiding setup troubles: The setup should not be interrupted by hitting the wrong keys (Cancel-button, etc.), or blocked by antivirus systems or firewalls. During the installation process, the SQL Server may search for a connection to the intranet (not to the internet!). If the firewall warns, please allow this access, otherwise the installation may break. In case of troubles during the setup, disconnect the network link and disable your protection system. The Eutaxa software does not require an internet access. Attention: Do not plug in the Wibu Key before you have installed the Eutaxa software (including the 64-bit Wibu Key driver) and restarted your computer. After the setup of the first product has finished, restart the computer, plug in the dongle (Wibu Key) and the hardware-driver of the Wibu Key will be installed automatically. When installing a second Eutaxa product, the Wibu Key may remain connected. 6

7 2. Installation of Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Browse the directory of the Windows Explorer, search for the new created folder Eutaxa Install W10, enter the subfolder DotNetfx or dotnetfx and select the file dotnetfx.exe (file size 23,6 MB). Hit the right mouse key and choose the command Run as Administrator (as shown in the following image). A dialogue of the operating system appears, asking if you really wish to install this program. Confirm with Yes. The Install Shield starts with the installation of Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1. Confirm the following dialogue with Yes. Agree the Microsoft.NET Framework License Agreement and hit the Install-button. 7

8 The setup continues. Do not break the installation by hitting the Cancel-button. After a successful installation of.net Framework 1.1, finish the setup by hitting the OK-button. 8

9 3. Installation of the SQL Server 2008 Browse the Windows Explorer to the folder Eutaxa Install W10 and open the subfolder SQL Server Select the file SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe, hit the right mouse button and choose the command Run as Administrator (see figure below). The system asks if you wish to install this program. Confirm with Yes. If a message appears that you first have to install a higher version of Microsoft.NET Framework, ignore it. In a first step, the Exe-file will be extracted. You may get a warning message that the new Server 2008 is not compatible with the operating system Windows 10. Ignore the warning and close the message. The same warning message may be displayed (and ignored) later, when installing Windows Security updates. During the install process, the following window will be displayed repeatedly: 9

10 In the Installation window of the SQL Server Installation Center, select the command New installation or add features to an existing installation. Accordingly, the window of the Setup Support Rules opens. Do not interrupt the process. 10

11 Accept the license terms, tick all boxes and hit the Next-button. Wait until the setup support files have been installed successfully (next two images). 11

12 Now the settings of the Server Instance Configuration are displayed. Select Named instance (indicated by a red arrow, see figure below), insert Eutaxa instead of SQLExpress (the name in the field of the Instance ID changes accordingly), leave the other settings and hit Next. 12

13 In the following Configuration-window set the SQL-Server Database Engine and the SQL-Server Browser in the column Startup Type on Automatic. Leave all other settings and confirm with Next. When the window of the Database Engine Configuration opens, choose the Mixed Mode (in the image indicated by a red arrow) and enter the password eutaxa. Confirm the password. Leave the settings of the administrator account and hit the Next-button. 13

14 When the Error Reporting window appears, check (as shown in the image) or untick the box and click on Next. Now the installation of the SQL Server continues. This process may last several minutes. 14

15 Finally, you get a message that the installation has completed successfully. Hit the Close-button. Close the window of the SQL Server Installation Center and restart your machine. Notice: If the SQL-Server does not start automatically, enter the System Control Panel, open the programs Administration and Services and start the SQL-Server manually (via right mouse button). 15

16 4. Installation of the first Product CD/DVD After the PC has restarted, insert the product CD/DVD, browse the directory and search for the Setup.exe. Hit the right mouse button and select Run as Administrator. The systems asks if you really wish to install this program. Confirm with Yes. First a dialogue appears, asking if you want to install.net Framework 1.1 once again. Press the No-key. Now the install process begins. Continue with Next. Agree the EULA (End User License Agreement) of Eutaxa and click on Yes. 16

17 Fill in your name and the name of your company, enable Anyone who uses this computer (all users) and continue with Next. Leave the path settings (recommended) und click on Next. 17

18 Now the program files are copied and the following window appears: Click on Next and allow the product installation without hitting the Cancel-button. 18

19 Accordingly, a window opens, displaying a scan of program data. It closes after the scan and requires no activity. 5. Connecting SQL Server and Database Attention: The following procedure is necessary when installing the products Culicidae 05, Simuliidae 05, Trichoptera 05, Trichoptera Families 07 and MZB Families 09. In Ephemeroptera 14, the database and server are connected automatically and a manual linkage is not required. In a next step, you have to connect Eutaxa database and SQL Server manually. First, an error message appears (often twice): Confirm the message with OK (if required twice) and link database and server manually by carrying out the following operations: 19

20 Notice: You may run this manual linkage subsequently after the setup has finished: Enter the Windows Explorer, follow the path C:\Program files\eutaxa, search for the file EutaxaDbi.exe and start the Database Installer with a double-click (or run the procedure as Administrator). When starting the DBI, you will get the same error message as described above. Confirm with OK. A window of the Eutaxa Database Installer (DBI) opens. Select the name of your product (e.g. "Trichoptera 05") and hit the Install-key (next image). In the following window of the Eutaxa Database Installer enable the SQL Server Security-button, fill in the Login-Name sa (as shown in the next figure) and the Password eutaxa (mind that the letters are replaced by asterisks) and hit the Logon the SQL Server-button. Afterwards click on the small key below (Path of the Application, marked with two dots). 20

21 Now the Windows Explorer opens. Browse the directory to Programs (or Program Files) and search for the Eutaxa subfolder (usually pre-selected). Confirm with OK to close the Explorer window. Accordingly, the path of the database will be displayed in the field Path of the Application (e.g. C:\Program Files\Eutaxa). Hit the Install-key of the Eutaxa Database Installer. Now database and server are linked. Close the window. Finally, the Wibu Key driver will be installed. Unlike older Eutaxa products, the newest program Ephemeroptera 14 installs the appropriate 64-bit driver, so that a later driver change is not necessary. Therefore, it is useful to install the Ephemeroptera key first. When installing one of the older products (Culicidae 05, Simuliidae 05, Trichoptera 05 and/or MZB Families 09) the 32-bit driver will be installed automatically. Accept the installation of the 32-bit driver, though you use a 64-bit operating system and do not break the driver setup. Confirm all steps with Next und close with Finish. You may get a warning message that the 32-bit driver could not be installed successfully. Press the Ignore-button und continue the driver setup. The driver change will be executed later, after the setup has finished (but before connecting the Wibu Key!). Notice: The installation of the Wibu Key driver is carried out once, at the end of the first product setup. This operation is illustrated on the following pages in chapter 6. In later product installations, the install shield skips this operation. This is why a 32-bit driver cannot overwrite an already installed 64-bit driver during later setups. 21

22 6. Installation of the Wibu Key Driver The following windows are displayed in sequence when running the installation of the Wibu Key driver (32-bit or 64-bit) from the CD/DVD. Confirm all steps with Next and leave the settings (except the language setting). You may change the following language setting. The English language remains selected. 22

23 Do not untick the box 32-bit WkNet/WkLAN Network Server. Leave the settings. 23

24 At this point, you may get a warning message that the driver cannot be installed. Hit the Ignore-button (if necessary several times) and continue the setup. Hit the Finish-key to proceed. 24

25 Finally, you get a message that the driver has been installed successfully. The last window confirms the successful installation of the product. Enable the command to restart the machine and click on Finish. Attention: The text in the window requests you to remove the disk from the drive this command is false. Please leave the CD/DVD in the drive, hit the Finish-button and restart your computer. Warning: Please do not connect the Wibu Key with a USB-port on your computer until the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers have been changed, according to the directives in chapter 7 on page

26 7. Replacement of the 32-bit Driver This operation is executed once, after the setup of the first product has finished! The driver change is only necessary when installing the products Culicidae 05, Simuliidae 05, Trichoptera 05 and/or MZB Families 09. The latest product, the key to Ephemeroptera larvae (2014) installs the appropriate 64-bit driver automatically, so that a driver change is needless. Before running the setup of the 64-bit driver, you first have to remove the 32-bit driver. Verify that the Wibu Key is not connected! Enter the system control panel, browse to the application Programs and Functions and uninstall the program Wibu Key setup (Wibu Key remove). You may get a warning message that the driver could not be removed successfully. Click the Ignore-button (if required, several times) and uninstall the driver. Finally, browse the Windows Explorer to the Eutaxa Install W10 folder, enter the subfolder Wibu64bit, select the file WkRuntime64.exe, hit the right mouse button and choose the command Run as Administrator. Make sure that the Wibu Key is not plugged in! Run the installation of the 64-bit driver as an administrator. Restart your computer, connect the Wibu Key on a free USB-port and await the setup of the hardware driver. Now you may start the program via desktop icon. 8. Order of Products Installation When installing Eutaxa products, published between 2005 and 2009, it is advisable to start with the oldest program and finish with the newest. The PDF-files User Manual, Product Info, etc. of different products have identic names and starting with the oldest program saves you from overwriting new PDFs by older versions. When installing the Ephemeroptera key (2014) in combination with older Eutaxa programs, it is useful to run the setup of the Ephemeroptera key first, because this program installs the newest software modules, updates and the required 64-bit Wibu Key driver automatically, and prevents the user from removing and displacing the inapplicable 32-bit driver. In this case, you have to consider the following problem: When you install the Ephemeroptera key first and you continue with the installation of a product published in 2005 (Culicidae 05, Simuliidae 05 and Trichoptera 05), these products cause an error and replace the new Eutaxa Database Installer (DBI) by the older version from As a result, the database installer offers a reduced list of products, including those programs published in This error does not affect the installed Ephemeroptera key, but when trying to proceed with the setup of the Trichoptera Families key (2007) or the MZB Families key (2009), these two products are not listed in the database installer and thus cannot be linked with the SQL-Server. You may solve this problem by carrying out one of the following operations: 1. Install products from 2005 at the end, after the setup of Trichoptera Families 07 and/or MZB Families Run the installation of the Ephemeroptera key once again and choose the Repair-function to replace the old DBI file by the latest version, including a list of all products, published in 2005, 2007, 2009 and Wolfgang Lechthaler, 2092 Riegersburg 101 (Austria), published on 25 th February
