Appendix 7. Appendix 7.1 Video Source Configuration 1. Select Live Sources with the right mouse key and select the menu that appears on the item Add new media source. Figure 1 2. Select the box titled Add Video Channel. Figure 2 96

Appendix 3. The list of the available sources that can be used to acquire the video stream is shown in the window beneath. Various types of elements can be found among these sources: The actual video camera (for example, a webcam connected by USB). For example, a webcam is present in Figure 3. The video capture card on the computer. For example, in Figure 4 there are two video capture cards. If more than one card is available, you must select the card that the video source is physically connected to. If you do not know this information, you must proceed by trial and error until you find the right card. Components for video camera installation on IP. These components are IPCamSourceVideo and UaxisVideo (see Figure 5). For Axis network video cameras, the second element must be chosen; whereas for generic IP video cameras that handle.jpeg images via http, the first element must be chosen. Important Note: You can see if your settings are correct in Step 7 of the configuration. Figure 3 97

Appendix Figure 4 Figure 5 98

Appendix 4. Use the mouse to select the correct video source and press the Next button. Figure 6 5. If the source you are configuring is an IP video camera, leave the items "Capture Compressed Content" and "Stream Hardware Compressed Content" checked, as shown in Figure If, on the other hand, the source you are configuring is a video camera connected to the PC by USB or using a video capture card, leave the items Capture Uncompressed Video and Apply Software Compression checked, as shown in Figure 8. Then press the "Next" button. Figure 7 99

Appendix Figure 8 6. Set the Frame Size to the value closest to 352x288 and set the Frame Rate to 15 (Figure 9). The higher the Frame Rate the more fluid the video. But this also increases the connection band required. If the video images "jumps" (and therefore is not fluid), you must lower the Frame Rate value. Figure 9 100

If the video source is connected to a video capture card and the card has bee selected in step 3 of the configuration, the Input field is enabled (Figure 10). This field lists all of the ports of the card that can be connected to the video source (composite, S-video, tuner-in, etc.). So, select the port that the video source is effectively connected to. Appendix Figure If you are configuring an IP video camera, the Frame Rate field is disabled. Enter the configuration string for the video camera according to the formats described (below Figure 11) in the Initialization String field. Figure

Appendix 6.2 If you are using a normal IP video camera, the configuration format is: IPCAM://Url=<xxx>&Fps=<xxx>&Auth=<xxx>&Username=<xxx>&Password=<xxx> The associated parameters are the following: URL: this is the only mandatory parameter and it identifies the URL of the video camera. It is the same URL that is entered in the web browser to display the.jpeg images recorded by the camera. FPS: Indicates the frame rate. The default value is 10 but it can be set from 1 to 15. Auth: specify yes or no based on if the video camera requires authorization or not. Username: username for authentication (if necessary). Password: password for authentication (if necessary). In some cases, the video camera allows you to specify other parameters, such as resolution or compression. Below you can find three sample configurations: IPCAM://Url= IPCAM://Url= /getcam&Fps=12&Auth=Yes&username=admin&Password=admin IPCAM://Url= /resolution=640x480&compression=25&Fps=2 If you are using am Axis video camera, the configuration format is: UAXIS://IP=<xxx>&Port=<xxx>&Comp=<xxx>&fps=<xxx>&size=<xxx> The associated parameters are the following: IP: IP address of the video camera. Port: port of the video camera. Comp: video compression level. It can be sent from 1 to 100 where 100 is the maximum level of compression and therefore the least clear image quality. Fps: indicates the frame rate. The default value is 10 but it can be set from 1 to 15. Size: indicates the resolution, small (320 x 240) or big (640 x 480). Below you can find three sample configurations: UAXIS://IP= &Port=80&Comp=50&fps=10&size=small UAXIS://IP=webcam.linnea.net&Port=80&Comp=1&fps=8&size=big. IMPORTANT: At the end of set-up, press the "Preview" button to display the video stream. 102

Appendix 7. If the configuration has been performed correctly, the video stream will be displayed. If not, you must repeat the configuration. One of the most common errors is to select the wrong video input (S-video, composite video, etc.) when the source is connected to a video capture card. If configuration is correct, press Next to continue. If not, modify the settings made (for more details, see the section on Troubleshooting). IMPORTANT: The video streaming from the video intercom is only displayed if there is a call. Therefore, if you are configuring this type of camera, you must perform a call to check the correct operation of the video (otherwise, nothing will be displayed). Figure

Appendix 8. Press Next to continue. 9. Press Next to continue. Figure 13 Figure

Appendix 10. Select Real Time from the upper part of the window. Select "DSL" in the bottom part you when available. Most times this setting is correct. However, when the video transmitted does not stream evenly (it "jumps"), this setting must be changed to Slow DSL or Modem and the value of the Frame Rate must also be modified (point 6). Press Next to continue. Figure Enter the name or alias for the video source in the Provider description field. The alias must be unique (only one video source can have this name). Press Next to continue. Figure

Appendix 12. Press Finish to end the video source configuration. Figure You have created the new video source. Figure 18 Use the right key of the mouse to select a configured video source. A 4-option menu will be displayed. To remove the video source, press Remove. To update it, press Update. 106

7.1.1 Troubleshooting 1. In Step 7 of configuration, nothing appears in the preview window. Appendix If you are in Step 7 of configuration, press the Preview button. If no video appears, it means that there is an error in the configuration of the source. Problems caused by Example Resolution The video camera is not connected to the PC. Selection of the wrong input that the video source is connected to. Wrong selection of the video capture card. You are configuring the video camera of the video intercom. You are configuring an IP video camera. The video camera is not connected to the PC. The video camera is connected to the S-video input and in the configuration field you have indicated the composite input. There are two video capture cards (configuration Step 3, Figure 2) and the video camera is connected to the first, but the second has been set. If you are configuring the video camera of the video intercom and you have not made a call. Connect the video camera to the PC. Modify the parameters in the Input field until you select the correct one. Modify the selection of the video capture card. The video stream of the video intercom is only displayed if there is a call. Otherwise, you will not see anything. If you are configuring the video camera of the video intercom, you must perform a call to check the correct operation of the video. Check that all the configuration parameters are correct. 107

Appendix 2. The video is deformed. If you are in Step 7 of Configuration, and when you press the Preview button to display the video it appears significantly deformed. In other cases, when the system is already configured but the video appears deformed. This problem is due to improper settings of the de-codification related to the card. For example, the video is in PAL B format and the card is displaying it in NTSC format. To resolve this problem, go to Step 6 in configuration. Select Video Tuner (or similar item) from the Input field and press the TV settings button (Figure 19). Figure

The widow shown in Figure 20 is displayed. Select the filed indicated for setting PAL B. Appendix Figure 20 Press OK. Then reset the "Input" field to the correct port that the video camera is connected to, instead of "TV Tuner" (see Step 6 on page 102). 109

Appendix 3. The video is displayed incorrectly (it "jumps") If the video displayed does not stream properly (it "jumps" forward), you must redefine the configuration of the video source. To do this, select the video source configured. Right-click on it and select Update. Select the item Video params (this is Step 8.1 of the configuration procedure). Lower the value of the Frame rate. Alternatively, you can modify the video compression. To do this, select Encoding (this is Step 8.1 of the configuration procedure). Modify the value of the Encoding profilefield and set it to Slow DSL or Modem. For the IP video camera, you must modify the parameters (Frame Rate, Size) included in the configuration string of the "Initialization String" field. The correct parameter configuration is shown in Step 6. Figure

7.2 Support Tool Appendix The Support Tool is a tool that allows you use the functions related to activation of the software and its future updates. To start the Tool select File from the menu and then select Support Tool. The Tool is a window with two pull-down options: Registration and Update Registration This function allows you to register the installer and end-user information in order to obtain the code to use the Vimar for Media Center software. Figure 22 The first step is to enter the data of the installer (left column) and the user (right column). The starred fields are mandatory. Enter the Package code (found inside the packaging of P/N ) and press the Generate request button. In this manner, the Package Code is sent to the Vimar server, which generates an Activation Code that it sends back. Enter this code in the Activation Code field and then press the Activate button. The software is now active and the system is functional. 111

Appendix For automatic updates, the computer must have both the Vimar for Media Center software and it must be connected to the Internet. If the Media Center computer is not connected to the internet, the activation code can be obtained by visiting our site, and filling in the form in the section Software Product Software Media Center or, if you are in Italy, by calling the Vimar toll free number Important: Una volta che il sistema è stato attivato è necessario riavviare il computer per rendere effettiva la registrazione Update This function allows you to download updates that, in time, are released for the software. To do this, obviously, the software must be activated according to the procedure illustrated above in Section To update the software, press the Download button. If communication with the remote server functions correctly, the update will be downloaded. It will be installed the next time the computer is started. Figure

Appendix It is also possible to set an automatic update of the software so that it is the application itself that automatically, when the computer is started, connects to the Vimar server to search for any updates. To activate automatic updates, check the field Automatic Update. A window will appear and by pressing Yes, the user consents to the automatic connection, enabling the automatic update function. Figure 24 Important Note: For automatic updates, the computer must have both the Vimar application for Media Center and it must be connected to the Internet. 113

Appendix 7.3 Troubleshooting Installation If there are problems when installing the Vimar for Media Center software, you can manually add a few functions to your installation of Windows Vista. To do this, proceed as follows: From the My Computer Other Resources directory, select Control Panel Select Programs Select Programs and Functions Select Activate or Deactivate Windows Functions (as shown in Figure 25) Figure
