3 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION You may need to contact your IT Department to assist you in software installation. 1. Remove the irespond Starter CD Kit (Figure 1) from the carrying case. The CD kit will contain all the software you need to run irespond including training videos and manuals. Free personalized on-line training is also available upon request. 2. Place the irespond Teacher's Dashboard software in your CD drive and click on the Install/Remove irespond link in the irespond Install Launcher. If the irespond Install Launcher does not open automatically, click Run from the Start menu and type: D:\iRespond\Setup.exe. Then click "OK." 3. Once the installation begins, follow the instructions and select Full Install. Continue with the installation wizard. Figure 1: irespond Start CD Kit HARDWARE SETUP 1. Remove the base unit, antenna, and USB cable (Figure 2) from the irespond carrying case. 2. Connect the antenna to the base unit. 3. Connect the USB connector to the base unit. Ensure the connecter is in the proper position before pushing into the USB jack or damage will occur. 4. Connect the other end of the USB cable to any USB port on your computer. Turn on the base unit to start the driver install. 5. After powering up the base, your base driver will be installed. If the hardware installation wizard asks to connect to the internet, reply not at this time. TEACHER S ACCOUNT Caution: Forcing the USB cable will result in damage! Figure 2: irespond Base Unit Creating a new Teacher s Account requires write access to the irespond installation directory. If you do not have administrative privileges on your computer please contact your IT Department for assistance. 1. After you have completed the software installation, double-click the irespond icon on your desktop to start irespond. 2. For first time users, log in using the Administrator account (Figure 3): Username: admin Password: changeme Note: Username and password are case sensitive. 3. Create your teacher account by clicking the New Account button and filling out the information (Figure 4). Note: The Remote Login field is your PIN for using a teacher's remote. This entry must be numeric for Lite remotes or 1 to 5 alphabetic letters for UltraLite remotes. 4. Click the Add button. 5. Click the Exit button. 6. Log into irespond with your new account. 4 REMOTE COLLECTION This procedure registers the remote devices with the irespond software. Any remote not registered during this step will not become active in a session. Figure 5: New Remote Device Dialog 1. Click the New Remote List button located in the Remote Devices toolbar (Figure 5). 2. Enter a remote device name and select a remote type. 3. Click the Accept button. 4. Click the Yes button in the Collect Remotes? Dialog.. 5. Turn on the base unit and follow the on screen directions. 6. Turn on all remote units and the Remote Collector (Figure 6) will gather them into a list. 7. Click the Done button once all remotes have been discovered. Note: This process only needs to be completed once. Figure 6: Remote Collector Dialog CLASS ROSTERS Building or importing a class roster in irespond will enable the irespond software to provide individual performance. This step is not necessary for anonymous polling situations. 1. Click the New Class Roster button located in the Classes toolbar (Figure 7). 2. Enter a class name and select a remote type. 3. Click OK. 4. Click the Yes button to begin adding students to the class. 5. Complete the New User dialog (Figure 8) box for your first student. Continue this step for all students by clicking the Next User button. Figure 8: New User Dialog Figure 7: New Class Roster Dialog TEST BANKS Use this procedure for building or importing a test bank for use with Student Paced, Instructor Paced, and Homework modes of operation. This process is not required for using the PowerPresenter mode with PowerPoint presentations. Figure 9: New Test Bank Dialog 1. Click the New Test Bank button located in the Test Banks toolbar (Figure 9). 2. Enter a test bank name and click the Test Bank button. 3. Click the Yes button to start adding questions to the test bank. 4. Complete the New Question dialog (Figure 10). Repeat for each new item by clicking the Next Question button. 5 IRESPOND POWERPOINT ADD-IN SETUP The irespond PowerPoint Add-in allows irespond to be used with PowerPoint presentations. STEP 1 PowerPoint Open PowerPoint Select Tools, then select Add-Ins. 3. Continue to Step 2. PowerPoint Open PowerPoint Click the Office Button at the top-left, then click the PowerPoint Options button. 3. Click the Add-ins tab in the PowerPoint Options dialog (Figure 11). 4. Select PowerPoint Add-ins from the drop-down. 5. Click the Go button. 6. Continue to Step 2. Figure 11: PowerPoint Options Dialog STEP 2 PowerPoint 2003 & From the Add-Ins dialog box click the Add New button (Figure 12). 2. Browse to C:/Program Files/Wireless esystems/irespond/addins/. 3. Select the irespondppt03.ppa file. 4. Click the Close button. 5. (PowerPoint 2007) Click the Add-ins tab at the top. 6. From the irespond Toolbar (Figure 13), click the New Question button to add a new question slide or click the Parse button to convert an existing slide to an iresond question slide. Note: You will run your PowerPoint with irespond's Power Presenter mode. See PowerPresenter section. Figure 14: irespond Question Dialog POWER PRESENTER Use Power Presenter to give interactive PowerPoint presentations using irespond. 1. Open your PowerPoint presentation prepared with irespond questions. 2. Login to irespond. 3. Select Power Presenter mode, a class, and a remote list (Figure 15). 4. Click the Start button at the bottom left. 5. Turn on your base unit and follow the directions. 6. Once irespond opens the session window (Figure 16), have your students log into their remotes. Once the students have logged in, minimize irespond and run your PowerPoint presentation with embedded irespond questions. Note: You may maximize the irespond Dashboard software to review results at any time. Optionally you can use the extended desktop feature of MS Windows to view the irespond Dashboard while the students only see your PowerPoint. 6 INSTRUCTOR PACED TESTING Use Instructor Paced mode for formative assessment using the irespond system. 1. Login to irespond. 2. Select Instructor Paced mode, then select a class, test, and remote list (Figure 17). 3. Click the Start button. 4. Turn on your base unit and follow the directions in irespond. 5. Instruct your students to log in their remotes. Click the View Content button to open the Content Viewer for displaying questions (Figure 18). Click the Send Question button in the Content Viewer to send a question. STUDENT PACED TESTING Use Student Paced mode to administer a test or quiz using the irespond system. 1. Login to irespond. 2. Select Student Paced mode, then select a class, test, and remote list (Figure 19). 3. Click the Start button. 4. Turn on your base unit and follow the directions in irespond. 5. At the Locating Users dialog (Figure 20), instruct your students to log in to their remotes. 6. Click the Finished button once all student have logged in. 7. Distribute your test materials and the student may now take the test with the teacher reviewing the results in real time. IRESPOND-NOW! Use irespond-now! for quick formative assessment without the need to set-up content. 1. Login to irespond-now!. 2. Select a class and click the Next button (Figure 21 Left). 3. Select a remote list and click the Next button (Figure 21 Right). 4. At the Finding Base Unit dialog, turn on your base unit. Once the base is found, click the Next button. 5. Instruct your students to log in to their remote devices. (Optional) Use the Down Arrow to select a correct response (Figure 22). 7. Click the Play button to send a question. Results will be shown in real time and graphing is automatic. Note: If marking correct answers using the green down arrow, ask your IT department how to enable extended desktop on your computer. This will allow you to place the floating toolbar out of view of the students. 6
7 STUDENT REMOTES Login Anonymous Login with Number PIN Submitting a Response Teacher's Remote irespond UltraLite (Figure 23) irespond Lite (Figure 24) While holding down the letter A", Press the "Power" button. Figure 23: irespond UltraLite Press the "Power" button. Then enter the appropriate PIN on the numeric keypad. Press the "Send" button to login. Press A-E or numeric entry and press the "Send" button. After login, "SEND" advances PowerPoint. For questions on the fly, press "F1" then A- E or a number to select a correct response. Then press the "Enter" button. If Enter your PIN: does not appear(shown), press the PIN button. Using the stylus, enter in the appropriate PIN. Press the "Enter" button to login. If Username: does not appear, press the UN button. Using the stylus, enter in the appropriate Username/Password. Press the Enter button to login. After login, "SEND" advances PowerPoint. For questions on the fly, press "F1" then A-E or a number to select a correct response. Using the stylus, select or enter in the appropriate response(s) and press the "Enter" button. After login, "Next Question" advances PowerPoint animations/slides. For questions on the fly, press "Immediate Question." Then, select the question type and the correct answer(s). To draw or write in question text, press the Draw Button. 8 IRESPOND MINI-TABLET PC Control (Stand-Alone Mode) irespond Mini-Tablet 1. Add the Mini-Tablet s UID to the base. The UID is located on the back of the remote. Windows: Right-click on the irespond Base Service icon located in the system tray (Figure 27), choose the Control Properties option, enter your Mini Tablet s UID in the appropriate box and press the OK button. Mac: Add the Mini-Tablet s UID to the appropriate line in the minitab.config file (most likely located in your home directory). 2. Turn on your base and Mini-Tablet; the PC Control Screen (Figure 28) will be displayed. Figure 27: Base Service System Tray Menu Teacher s Remote Add your Mini-Tablet to your remote device using the Find Remotes button (See Remote Collection on page 4). Figure 28: Mini-tablet PC Control Screen After starting a session, log in to your Mini-Tablet with your Teacher s Remote Login; the Teacher s Remote Screen (Figure 29) will be displayed. Press Next Question to advance PowerPoint slides or to advance to the next question in the item bank. Press Immediate Question to send a question on-the-fly (Figure 30). Select the question type and the correct answer(s). The Draw option (not available with UltraLite Systems) allows you to write in or draw question data.
