1 Managing Moodle Courses The Manage Moodle tool allows you to set the system to regularly query Moodle grades tables to identify users who have achieved the maximum score. If Moodle been selected as the course provider, click Manage Moodle. Check the box to direct the system to regularly monitor the Moodle grades table for users who have achieved the maximum score. Note: If there will be more than one grade for the course, do NOT check this box until you are sure all grades have been submitted. The Moodle Course ID is created by the system to identify the section to which the Moodle course is routed. Set the minimum score required to pass the course. Note: This is the course s FINAL aggregate score. Click Scan Full Grades Table Next Run if you believe some scores are missing. This forces a complete rescan of the Moodle grades table. Click Save & Return to return to the Manage Section screen. Click Done to return to the Learning Opportunity Administration screen. Updated 5/19/

2 Viewing Moodle Courses On the Learning Opportunity Administration page, scroll down to the Section. Click Navigate Section to navigate to the Moodle page. The Moodle course page will display. Click Turn editing on to add topics and other resources to the Moodle course. Click Return to Portal to return to the Learning Opportunity Administration screen. Updated 5/19/

3 Importing an Existing Moodle Course from the PD System to a New Section Once a section has been created, Moodle gives users the ability to import a Moodle course already in the PD system to a new section, and choose the activities you want to include in the new section. To Import a Moodle course to a new section: Scroll down to Settings located on the lower right side of the screen and click Import. Choose the course you want to import data from and click Continue. 4 Indicate desired backup settings and click Next. Select the topics you wish to include and click Next. Check all required fields and click Perform Import. The import is complete. Click Continue to return to the course. Updated 5/19/

5 Backing up and Restoring an Existing Moodle Course from Outside of the PD System to a New Section If you are using Moodle in an instance outside of the NCEES PD System, you can restore it into a section within the PD System. Note: These activities are done within your existing Moodle instance, not within the PD system. Backing up your existing Moodle course: Log-in to your existing Moodle instance and navigate to your desired course. Scroll down to Settings located on the lower right side of the screen and click the Backup link. Review default selections, and make changes if needed. Uncheck Include Enrolled Users if it is checked by default. Note: Include enrolled users must be unchecked. Click Next. Updated 5/19/

6 Review the schema settings, and make changes if needed. Click Next. Confirm and review your selections. If satisfied, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Perform Backup. You should see a notification that the backup was successful. Click Continue. Importing a backup file: If you have not yet created the Moodle course shell in the Home Base PD System, log-out of Moodle, and into the PD System and follow instructions on pages 7-12 of this document. 7 have already created a Moodle course shell in the Home Base PD System, log into the PD System, and navigate to your Moodle section shell by following instructions on page 12. Scroll down to your settings and select Restore. Click Choose a file to find the backed up file you want to restore into the PD System. Note: There is a maximum file size of 20 megabytes. The system will not allow you to restore files larger than 20 megabytes. Updated 5/19/

8 Select the appropriate location for your backed up file. Note: If you just performed the backup, the file can be easily found in the Recent Files location. Click to select the desired file. Make any necessary edits and click Select this file. Click Restore. Review the presented details, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Continue. Updated 5/19/

9 Determine whether you want to Merge the backup course into the new Moodle course shell (adding onto content you ve already added to the new course shell), or Delete the contents of this course and then restore (overriding any content you ve added to the new course shell). Select the radio button of your choice, and click Continue. Note: For best results, select Delete the content of this course and then restore. Review your settings, make any necessary changes, and click Next. Note: For best results, make sure Include enrolled users is unchecked. Review the schema settings for your course, make any necessary changes, and click Next. Note: For best results, these should all be set to No. Updated 5/19/

10 Review all settings, then scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Perform Restore. Once complete, you should see a confirmation message. Click Continue to view the course you restored. Updated 5/19/
