1 DIRECTIONS FOR RECORDS MANAGEMENT IN THE DON: EVERYONE S RESPONSIBILITY 1. Open Internet Explorer (IE) and go to (NKO should not be used with Google Chrome or any other browser). You will need your CAC inserted for the next steps. 2. You can get to Navy elearning by either clicking on the Click Here for NKO Access button near the center of the screen (then proceed to step 3) or by clicking on the Navy elearning link near the top left of the screen (then proceed to step 4). If one method doesn t work, try the other. If neither method works, restart you browser and/or restart your computer. 3. Near the top of the page, under LEARNING, select Navy e-learning >Online Courses.
2 4. Select the Course Catalog tab. (If your screen does not look like this, proceed to step 22.) 5. In the title search filter, type Records Management and press the Enter key or click the Apply Filters button. 6. Click on the Enroll button to the right of the course title Records Management in the DON: Everyone s Responsibility.
3 7. Click the Continue button on the pop up screen that asks if you would like to enroll in the course. 8. Click on the My Learning tab near the top of the screen. 9. Under the Enrolled tab, click on the Launch button of the Records Management course.
4 10. Once the course opens, click on the first module. 11. It may appear that nothing has happened after clicking on the module, but there was a subtle change. Click on Click here to launch the lesson. Read the material and press Next or Exit as directed.
5 12. Upon completion of the first module, the check box to the left of the module title will fill. 13. Complete steps for the next two modules.
6 14. After completing the first three modules you are ready to take the test. Click on Knowledge Check. 15. After completing the four questions you will get a summary of your score (if no questions come up, proceed to step 23). Click on Score Test to record your results. You need 75% or greater to pass. If you did not pass, repeat steps until you do.
7 16. Once you have passed the test the check box to the left of Knowledge Check will turn green. 17. YOU ARE NOT FINISHED! You must still complete the last module, Resources, clicking Glossary, Next and/or Exit as directed on both pages that open. Once you have finished this module you are complete and all check boxes will be filled. If the check box next to this module does not fill in, go to step 28.
8 18. To verify that NKO recorded your completion, return to the Navy elearining main page and click on the Open My Training History link. 19. Once you have verified completion, you can print your certificate by clicking on the certificate icon. CELEBRATE, YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRAINING! Now that you are a NKO expert, you might as well complete February s training, Combatting Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) General Awareness WBT.
9 20. Once you have completed the course it may take a couple weeks for the course completion data to make it into the TWMS database. Until that happens, you may get automated messages reminding you to complete the course PLEASE DISREGARD THEM IF YOU HAVE TAKEN THE COURSE LESS THAN 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE MESSAGE. Keep a copy of the completion certificate for your records. If you receive an automated message reminding you to complete the course more than 3 weeks after taking the training, THEN AND ONLY THEN should you send a copy of the certificate to parks@usna.edu and it will be manually entered in TWMS. NKO TROUBLESHOOTING Review the steps below or call the NKO Help Desk at (877) , Option If you get the screen below when initially trying to access NKO, you may have to restart Internet Explorer (IE) and/or restart your computer.
10 22. If after attempting steps 2 and/or 3 above to access Navy elearning, your screen DOES NOT look like the screen shot below, try this: a. Open Internet Explorer (IE). Note, you must use IE for NKO. b. Press the F10 key. c. Click on the Tools tab d. Click on Compatibility View settings e. Under Add this website: type *.navy.mil and hit the Enter key or click on the Add button f. Now, under Websites you've added to Compatibility View: you should see navy.mil g. Click on the Close button h. Your screen should now look like the picture below (you may have to refresh your screen).

If when you click on Knowledge Check (step 14) you get no questions, similar to the screen shot below, you may need to update/add some plug-ins or adjust some settings in your web browser (IE). 24. To find out the proper browser settings and what plug-ins may need to be added/updated, proceed back to the Navy elearning Main Page (steps 2 and/or 3 above) and then click on the Browser Configuration link.

The top half of the Browser Configuration page analyzes what version of Internet Explorer (IE) that you are using and provides IE version-specific step-by-step instructions to modify your settings. There is also a link to download the current version of Java. If you are uncomfortable with making these adjustments, you may want to contact IT for assistance. 26. The bottom half of the Browser Configuration page analyzes what version of various plug-ins installed, if any, and provides a click HERE link for those versions that need updating. Follow the directions provided by the various plug-in websites to update your software. If you are uncomfortable with making these adjustments, you may want to contact IT for assistance.
13 27. If all of the check boxes aren t filled in, then you missed completing something in one or more modules. The first two check boxes will turn green once all modules are completed. Go back to the module that is not checked off and make sure you review each page using the Next link and Exit tab as instructed at the bottom of each page. If this doesn t fix it, go to step 28.
14 28. If you still can t get the last check box to fill in, try this: a. Click the Glossary tab. b. In the second window that opened (Glossary), click the grey wording to the right of the minus sign. c. The minus sign has now become a plus sign. Click the plus sign. d. Click the grey word glossary. e. Click the Exit tab on the second window. f. In the first window(resources), click the grey wording to the right of the minus sign. g. The minus sign has now become a plus sign. Click the plus sign. h. Click the grey word resources. i. Click the Exit tab. The check box should now be filled. 29. If your are still having problems, contact the NKO Help Desk at (877) , Option 1.
