Selenio One Overview How Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) Transcoding Works Adaptive bitrate technology works by detecting a user's bandwidth and CPU capacity in real time and adjusting the quality of video accordingly. The video is "transcoded" into several streams which can then be played by users on different devices and under different system conditions, providing the best quality of video for a given user's device and system. Here is how the Selenio One XO processes and delivers ABR transcodes: The Selenio One XO takes a source video stream (multicast over IP) and transcodes it to multiple output streams (multicast over IP) Each output stream may have its own resolution and bitrate The multiple output streams are IDR aligned (meaning their key frames are aligned) The output streams are used over best effort networks with varying bitrate The end device picks the output stream that best fits the currently available bitrate Selenio One XO Hardware The Selenio One XO is currently delivered on an HPE Moonshot platform. HPE Moonshot is a software defined web server that delivers breakthrough efficiency and scale; these servers share management, power, cooling, networking and storage to drive significant cost and efficiency benefits. By using individually serviceable hot-pluggable server cartridges, the Moonshot 1500 Chassis enables each server to use less energy, cabling, space, and cost, while also reducing complexity. The Moonshot System is built using system components such as the Moonshoot Chassis (see HPE Moonshot 1500 Chassis (on page 13)), Moonshoot Server Cartridges (see HPE ProLiant m710x Server Cartridge (on page 15)), Moonshoot Switch modules (see HPE Moonshot-45XGc Switch Module (on page 16)), and Moonshoot Uplink modules (see HPE Moonshot-4QSFP+ Uplink Module (on page 17)) Imagine Communications Corp. 32 Selenio One XO User Interface Tools menu General Tools Configure Element Redundancy Redundancy is controlled by the Selenio One Media Manager. The goal of setting up a redundant element is to ensure that any potential downtime is minimized. Hot Standby offers 1-1 redundancy, where you have one backup element per primary. Cold Standby offers N+1 redundancy, where you can have one backup to several primary elements. For the shortest recovery time, it is recommended you use hot standby. If you need coverage for more elements, with a longer recovery time, cold standby is recommended. You can choose to define redundancy via the following options: 1+1 Hot Standby (on page 32) N+1 Cold Standby (on page 34) An element can be backed up by an equivalent element that: Is running the same software version Has the same licensing Has the same hardware configuration When redundancy is set up, a failover can occur or be triggered under these conditions: As a result of element failure Manually by a user Element failure is deemed to have occurred under these conditions: If communication to the element is lost or the control interface TCP connection is broken If a primary element (in a redundancy group) asserts an alarm exceeding the user configured alarm threshold of the redundancy group 1+1 Hot Standby Important: Note that 1+1 Hot Standby is only available in case of Selenio One XL. You can choose to set up 1+1 Hot Standby Redundancy for your element (Selenio One XL only) by designating a primary element, and then setting up a secondary element with the same capabilities as the primary. To set up 1+1 Hot Standby, do the following: 1. Go to Tools > Configure Element Redundancy > 1+1 Hot Standby 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 32

Selenio One XO User Interface 2. Select the Primary Element that you are defining Redundancy for 3. If desired, click the show Primary element failure threshold setting and then enter and set the Element Failure Threshold Note: The Element Failure Threshold is based on alarm priority. If an alarm is raised on the primary element (that has redundancy backup configured) with priority greater that the threshold, failover will be triggered. 4. Select the Secondary Element from the drop down list and click the Add button. Once 1+1 Hot Standby has been defined: The Primary Element continues uninterrupted, and services run as usual On the Secondary Element: The data interface IP addresses are changed to match the primary All data interface ARP and IP output packets are dropped (to avoid duplicate IP output traffic) Services configured to run on the primary are duplicated on the secondary element 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 33

Selenio One XO User Interface Both Primary and Secondary elements are configured identically except for different control IP addresses. In case of a failover situation, the secondary takes over. There is no automatic failback to the primary even if it becomes available. Manual failback is possible. N+1 Cold Standby N+1 Cold Standby is available for all elements. You can choose to set up N+1 Cold Standby Redundancy for your elements. This allows you to: Define a single backup (secondary) element Define one or more primary elements to be backed up Create a redundancy group that contains the backup and primary elements When Cold Standby is defined, in case of a failed primary element, at the time of failure, the configuration of the failed element is pushed to the backup element. To reduce failover time, backup elements have no configured services running. Once the backup takes over, even if the primary becomes available again, it does not become active. You can however opt to manually fail back to a primary element. Follow these steps to define Cold Standby: 1. Go to Tools > Configure Element Redundancy > N+1 Cold Standby 2. Click Add Redundancy Group to define a group 3. Provide a Name and Alarm Priority Trigger for the group and click Add Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 34

Selenio One XO User Interface 4. Once created, you will see the new group in the Existing Groups section. 5. Click Add Member to add an element to the group. Select the Element from the drop down list, and select its role, whether Primary or Secondary. 6. Repeat and define your entire group of a single backup to one or more primaries. Redundancy - Dashboard Indicators The following indicators are seen on the dashboard, once redundancy has been set up: 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 35

Selenio One XO User Interface Each primary element (in a redundancy group) has protected by <group GROUPNAME> displayed below it. Backup elements are not displayed on the dashboard In case of a failover within a group, the backup element displays protecting <primary element IP. Group groupname> Once a backup element moves in to protect a failed primary element: Other primary elements in the group will get an indicator to show that a backup is not available You will also see a "backup unavailable" indicator against each primary element in the group if a redundancy group has been defined with only primary elements and no backup Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 36

Selenio One XO User Interface Note that once an element is part of a redundancy pair or group, that element's entry in the Existing Elements section of the Add Element dialog will reflect that. Failback and Failover Options Once redundancy has been defined, if required you can manually failover. This example considers the case of an N+1 Cold Standby redundancy definition, with 2 primaries and a single backup. In the group definition, you will see Failover buttons against both the primaries. If you click the Failover button against one of the primaries, a failover confirmation message will be displayed, and that primary will then failover to the configured backup element (which was previously in standby mode). The backup then becomes active, and you will see a Failback button against the primary that was failed over. 38 Selenio One XO User Interface Configure Protection Group Note: Protection Groups are supported only for Selenio One XL Transcoding Services. Protection groups provide user processing service recovery (or N:M redundancy) within an element. You can create a protection group of processing services on an element, and designate primary transcoding services, backup transcoding services, and alarm priority trigger threshold. If a primary transcoder fails and generates an alarm exceeding the configured threshold, the system automatically selects a backup transcoder from the protection group s backup and configures it to match the failed primary transcoder's configuration. The system then tears down the failed service and reconfigures it with the backup s configuration (swapping configuration), putting this transcoder back in the protection group s backup pool. The Manage Groups tab allows you to define Protection Groups. To create a Protection Group: 1. Go to the Manage Groups tab 2. Select an Element. 3. Provide a Name for the Group, enter the Alarm Priority Trigger 4. Click the Add button Any existing groups are displayed in under Existing Groups. Links against a group enable you to delete or edit the configuration settings. The Configure Groups tab allows you to assign a created Protection Group to a specific Element. to do this: 1. Select the Element 2. Select from available Protection Groups in the drop down list 3. Set the Alarm Priority Trigger 4. Click the Change button 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Presets are saved in.prst format and you can open the file in a text editor like Notepad. If you save a preset to file, you can re-import it from the Import Preset tab. Import Presets The Import Preset tab allows you to Import a preset from a file by selecting Import from a File in the Source drop down, and then browsing to select a file. Give the preset a name and click the Import button. Use this option if you've previously saved a preset to file. License Management Licensing is defined on a product by product basis. The License Management dialog lets you view and apply licenses to elements, as well as configure licensing for the Selenio One Media Manager. 1. In the Select License Server drop down, you can: Select an element to view available licenses on that element or to upload a new license package to that element Select the Manager License Server option to input the IP address of the Selenio One Media Manager license server. Note: Selenio One Media Manager can manage elements that are not collocated. 2. If you select Manager License Server: By default, the License Server IP field is blank. You can provide the IP Address of a license server here by clicking Edit button, inputting the IP, and then clicking Apply Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 42

Selenio One XO User Interface If the provided IP address cannot be found, you will get an error in the System ID field If the license server provided does not have a valid SMM-EXT license, you will see an alarm stating that the manager has no external management license. The Manager has the ability to tell a given Element the location of the license server it should use. If you input a valid, active license server IP Address in the License Server IP field, the Selenio One Media Manager informs all managed elements of the value of this field and each element then uses this license server. The System ID field will reflect the status of connection to the License Server. To see available licenses on an element: 1. In the Select License Server drop down, click on an existing element in the system 2. Available licenses are displayed along with The System ID, unique to the element. A feature list of current licenses available on the element, and the number of licenses for that feature (Max Count) Licenses currently in use (In Use vs. Max Count) License end date (expiry date) 3. You also have an option to browse and input a license package to the element 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 43

Table 3: Selenio One Media Manager Licensed Features Name SMM-EXT Description External Management per Channel SMM-EXT License The SMM-EXT feature enables Selenio One Media Manager to support remote element management. Via this feature, Selenio One Media Manager can support and manage a defined number of remote services. Once this number has been reached, the Selenio One Media Manager cannot manage any more remote services. Note that various functions on elements (adding inputs, transcoding, etc. use up licenses). There is no restriction on licensing elements local to the Selenio One Media Manager. An alarm will be raised for any of these conditions: The Manager License Sever cannot be reached The license package on the Manager License Server has no SMM-EXT feature The maximum instance count of features has been reached Note that with regard to instance count, the SMM-EXT feature considers managed channels" from an external element and not the number of external elements. Once the max count has been reached, you will not be able to add any more elements, regardless of whether they are remote or collocated. For all of these conditions, you will see a generic alarm stating that the manager has no external management license Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 45

Selenio One XO User Interface License Validation The Selenio One Media Manager UI enforces license validation. If an element runs out of a feature license (insufficient instance count), the UI prevents users from using that feature. For example, if you hit the maximum for H264 HD (Selenio One XO) when attempting to initiate a Transcode (Add Transcoding dialog), the Video tab won't allow H246 HD as the output. Or if you attempt to transcode dolby digital audio, but have insufficient Dolby Digital/Digital Plus Decode licenses available, you wont see a Transcode option in the Processing drop down in the Output section of the Audio tab. If a specific license feature on an element is either not available or has reached its max count, the Add/Change dialog hides corresponding options and displays a feature not available warning at the bottom of dialog page. For example, if you do not have available MPEG-DEC licenses and you attempt a transcode, the Add Transcoding dialog will display a warning in red at the bottom of the dialog. System Tools Configure Media Manager The Configure Media Manager dialog has two tabs: NTP Server: To set up an NTP Server Reset: To restart the Selenio One Media Manager 2017 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. Version 1.0 Page 46

Selenio One XO User Interface NTP Server Important: The NTP Server must be set up before you start to configure your product. You can point the NTP Server to an external server OR to the local system ( ). Note that the NTP Server address field is not affected by a factory default (by clicking the Restart Manager button in the Reset tab), as such, the NTP Server setting is maintained. It is up to the current user to validate the accuracy of the NTP Server setting. Network Time Protocol (NTP) allows for synchronization of all participating computers to within a few milliseconds of Universal Time (UTC). It is designed to mitigate the effects of variable network latency. With an NTP Server, you can be sure that your multiplexers and transcoders are using the same time base across the system, which is critical for operations such as Statmux. The Selenio One Media Manager takes the NTP Server information you provide and broadcasts it to all the elements it controls. Doing this synchronizes the timestamp and ensures the same time base is used. To set a new NTP Server for all configured elements: Enter the NTP Server IP Address in the NTP Server IP box The Port is 123 by default and this cannot be change Once you set an NTP Server, it will be displayed under Current NTP Server, and you can change it at any time under Set New NTP Server. Reset Click the Restart Manager button in the Reset tab to restart the Selenio One Media Manager. Note that resetting does not clear the NTP Server setting. Import/Export Database The Configure Database dialog allows you to Import or Export a Database: Export a Database When you export a database, all settings, alarms, and saved elements from the media manager database are exported. To export the current database, simply provide a Name for the database and click the Export button. The system prompts for a location to save the Database (.sql) file Imagine Communications Corp. 48 Selenio One XO User Interface Import a Database An exported database file can be imported to a new Selenio One Media Manager. For instance, if you need to migrate your system or recover from a complete uninstall/reinstall. To import a Database, click the Browse button and select a previously exported database file, and then click the Import button. Note: Importing a database updates the Selenio One Media Manager, but it does not change anything running on the Element side. Views Menu Dashboard Log in to the Selenio One Media Manager Web UI by entering the IP address in a web browser, and then entering your credentials. On logging in, the Dashboard is displayed. This is the view that you will likely use most often, to do routine functions like define your input, set up transcodes, or do multiplex operations (Selenio One XL only). Note: You will see the same dashboard interface and options regardless of whether you're using Selenio One XO or Selenio One XL. Specific functions available are controlled via licensing. See License Management (on page 42). The Dashboard area is divided into three main panes: Input, Processing, and Output The Input pane reflects any inputs or sources that have been added to the system. The Processing pane reflects any Transcoding functions that have been initialized or are in progress. The Output pane reflects any Multiplexer functions and SPTS outputs from Transcoding functions.
