4 Upgrading IP3 Controller 1.5.1/1.6/1.7 or SDNO Controller 1.5 to SDNO Controller 2.0 Upgrading IP3 Controller 1.5.1/1.6/1.7 or SDNO Controller 1.5 to SDNO Controller 2.0 This document explains how to upgrade IP3 Controller version 1.5.1/1.6/1.7 or SDNO Controller 1.5 to SDNO Controller 2.0. Note: You must be running at least IP3 Controller or SDNO 1.5 before attempting this upgrade process. If you re running a lower version, refer to the IP3 Controller document for steps to get to You have two options: Do an on-air upgrade. See On-Air Upgrade Procedure (on page 5) Do an offline upgrade. 5 On-Air Upgrade Procedure On-Air Upgrade Procedure Live on-air upgrades can be done using the IP3 Redundancy Management Utility. The process followed is: 1. Upgrade the Standby IP3 Controller to SDNO Controller Manually failover to the upgraded SDNO Controller 3. Upgrade the other redundant or previously active IP3 Controller Follow these steps (in the following sequence, for minimal downtime) for upgrades to a live on-air station with redundant IP3 Controllers: Step 1 - Upgrade Navigator (5.5 or higher) Important: You must upgrade your Magellan CCS Navigator to version 5.5 for use with a 2.0 SDNO Controller/System Navigator 5.5 is backwards compatible with previous Controller versions, including 1.5.1/1.6/1.7 Go to the Magellan CCS Navigator PC and do the following: 1. Close Navigator if it is running. 2. Backup the Navigator Database (for example, the database) 3. Run the Navigator 5.5 executable (for example, Magellan-CCS-Navigator-V5.5.0-Setup.exe) 4. It is recommended you restart your PC after installing Navigator Step 2 - Upgrade Resource Module (PX-RES) Firmware 1. Launch the IP3 Controller Web UI 2. Upload PX-RES 2.0 firmware to the firmware repository Configure System > Firmware Foundry > Firmware Repository 3. Upgrade Resource Module with the new firmware Configure System > Firmware Foundry > Resource Modules 4. Activate the new firmware Step 3 - Disable Controller Redundancy 1. In the IP3 Controller web UI, click the Configure System link in the toolbar at the top. 2. Click Manage IP3 Controller settings, then click the Network & Redundancy button. 3. 6 On-Air Upgrade Procedure Step 4 - Remote Desktop into Primary/Secondary SDNO Controllers 1. Open remote desktop connections (on the Navigator PC) to the Primary and Secondary SDNO Controllers using their respective Hardware IPs and perform the following steps: Note: The default username on the SDNO Controller machine is harris, and the pre-installed password for that username is harrisadmin. 2. Copy the SDNO Controller 2.0 package to both the Primary and Secondary desktop Step 5 - Upgrade STANDBY SDNO Controller 1. Backup the current IP3 configuration by running the IP3 Backup utility 2. Uninstall IP3 Controller by doing the following: a. Run the SDNO Controller 2.0 installation package b. If an installed version of the SDNO Controller is detected, it will provide an option to remove it. Select the Remove option to uninstall the SDNO Controller. c. Once uninstallation is complete, manually delete the C:\ipxcontroller\services folder. 3. Install.NET (Optional) Ensure you're running Logging Server If not, run the Logging Server executable, follow the wizard and install. 5. Install SDNO Controller 2.0 a. Run the SDNO Controller 2.0 executable and follow the steps in the wizard to complete installation. Once complete, you will see a message confirming successful installation. b. Start the SDNO Services by running the Start SDNO shortcut on the desktop c. Run the SDNO Status script to verify that the SDNO Controller shows as Secondary in Standby mode and also double check the version shows as Manually failover to the newly upgraded Standby SDNO Controller by performing the following steps very carefully: Important: DO NOT use the web UI to invoke the manual failover, instead use the IP3 Redundancy Management utility as outlined below. During this set of steps, there will be a small window of time where there is loss of control. This will last just a few minutes until the database is republished. a. Launch the IP3/SDNO Redundancy Management Utility on both the Active and newly upgraded Standby SDNO Controllers b. On the ACTIVE SDNO Controller: Set the Active SDNO Controller to Standby by selecting Option 3 in the utility Note: After setting the SDNO Controller to Standby, there will be a temporary loss of the remote desktop connection. Re-establish the remote session if it does not automatically reconnect. Important: Wait until this process completes before doing the next step on the Standby Controller Imagine Communications Corp. 7 On-Air Upgrade Procedure c. On the STANDBY IP3 Controller: Activate the newly upgraded SDNO Controller by selecting Option 2 in the utility. 7. Republish your IP3 database to restore router control a. In Navigator, open the DB Editor b. Click the Publish button to republish the database. A republish should be done in order to update your database to the latest format that is enhanced with new features. Step 6 - Upgrade Standby (previously 'Active') IP3 Controller 1. Uninstall the older IP3 Controller version 2. Install.NET Optional - Install or ensure you're running Logging Server Install SDNO Controller Start the SDNO Services by running the Start SDNO shortcut on the desktop 6. Run the SDNO Status script to verify that the SDNO Controller shows as Secondary in Standby mode and also double check the version shows as 2.0 Step 7 - (Optional) For NIC Teaming Only INSTALL POWERSHELL Enable the Windows Update service Note that this will require a restart 2. Install Microsoft PowerShell 4.0 or higher (for Windows 7) from the Microsoft website 3. The system will require a Windows restart. After restarting, open a remote desktop connection to the IP3 Controller using the Hardware IP. From the desktop, run the Stop IP3 script INSTALL INTEL ANS Install Intel ANS from the Intel website 2. Turn off the Windows Update service SET UP NIC TEAMING If you're using Selenio MCP modules, set up NIC teaming for redundancy. 8 On-Air Upgrade Procedure Step 8 - Final Steps 1. Launch Internet Explorer and clear the cache (required to clear Silverlight UI caching) 2. Launch the SDNO Controller UI 3. Enable Redundancy Once redundancy is enabled, the updated (published) database will automatically be synced to this SDNO Controller. Wait for the Data Sync Status (Synchronized) LED to be green for confirmation. You should also see the version showing as 2.0 in the bottom bar and in the About box. Note: If the Active SDNO Controller is not the Primary SDNO Controller, failover to Primary SDNO Controller after data-sync is completed. Note about Routing Systems in SDNO Controller 2.0 Once you're running Magellan CCS Navigator 5.5, the following applies to new and existing routing systems: New Routing Systems created in Navigator 5.5 (by polling a 2.0 SDNO Controller) New Routing Systems created in Navigator 5.5 (by polling a 1.5.1/1.6/1.7 IP3 Controller) Existing Routing Systems created in versions of Navigator prior to 5.5 Existing Routing Systems, re-polled in Navigator 5.5 Will show as SDNO Routing system Will show as SDNO Routing System Will show as IP3 Routing System Will show as IP3 Routing System 2016 Imagine Communications Corp. 9 Offline Upgrade Procedure Offline Upgrade Procedure Go to the Magellan CCS Navigator PC and do the following: Step 1 - Upgrade Navigator (5.5 or higher) Important: You must upgrade your Magellan CCS Navigator to version 5.5 for use with a 2.0 SDNO Controller/System Navigator 5.5 is backwards compatible with previous Controller versions, including 1.5.1/1.6/1.7 Go to the Magellan CCS Navigator PC and do the the following: 1. Close Navigator if it is running. 2. Backup the Navigator Database (for example, the database) 3. Run the Navigator 5.5 executable (for example, Magellan-CCS-Navigator-V5.5.0-Setup.exe) 4. It is recommended that you restart your PC after installing Navigator Step 2 - Upgrade Resource Module (PX-RES) Firmware 1. Launch the SDNO Controller Web UI 2. Upload PX-RES 2.0 firmware to the firmware repository Configure System > Firmware Foundry > Firmware Repository 3. Upgrade Resource Module with the new firmware Configure System > Firmware Foundry > Resource Modules 4. Activate the new firmware. Step 3 - Disable Controller Redundancy 1. In the SDNO Controller interface, click the Configure System link in the toolbar at the top. 2. Click Manage IP3 Controller settings, then click the Network & Redundancy button. 3. Note: Ensure that you uninstall the previous version of both SDNO Controllers before attempting to upgrade any of them. Step 7 - Install Microsoft.NET Run the Microsoft.NET executable. Step 8 - (Optional) Install Logging Server Ensure you re running Logging Server 1.4.1, if not, follow the wizard and install Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 11 Offline Upgrade Procedure Step 9 - Upgrade IP3 Controller to SDNO Controller Run the SDNO Controller 2.0 executable and follow the steps in the wizard to complete installation. 2. Do this on the redundant Controller as well Step 10 - Start SDNO Controller Services on both Controllers 1. Start all the Services by running the Start SDNO shortcut on the desktop. Step 11 - Clear Navigator Cache 1. On the Navigator PC, close Navigator 2. Launch Internet Explorer and clear the cache (required to clear Silverlight UI caching) 3. Start Navigator Step 12 - Enable Redundancy NOTE: Ensure both primary and secondary Controllers have been upgraded to SDNO Controller 2.0 before enabling redundancy. 1. In the SDNO Controller UI, enable Redundancy by going to Configure System > Manage SDNO Controller Settings > Network and Redundancy > Enable Redundancy. Step 13 - Republish IP3 Database 1. Install Microsoft PowerShell 4.0 or higher (for Windows 7) from the Microsoft website 3. The system will require a Windows restart. After restarting, open a remote desktop connection to the IP3 Controller using the Hardware IP. From the desktop, run the Stop IP3 script INSTALL INTEL ANS Install Intel ANS from the Intel website 2. Turn off the Windows Update service SET UP NIC TEAMING If you're using Selenio MCP modules, set up NIC teaming for redundancy. 13 Upgrade Module Firmware (Optional) Upgrade Module Firmware (Optional) Upgrade firmware on individual modules as required. Modules are displayed in the Firmware Foundry in the IO Modules tab under Category: Input Cards/Output Cards/Control Cards First, ensure the new module firmware is loaded into the firmware repository. Then select individual modules and upgrade. Upgrade Crosspoint Modules Crosspoint Modules are displayed in the Firmware Foundry in the IO Modules tab under Category: Crosspoint Cards. When upgrading Crosspoint Modules, there are certain restrictions with regard to compatibility between firmware versions. You cannot upgrade crosspoint modules running firmware versions 3.x to 4.x and vice versa. The following table displays information on firmware version compatibility. Note: This table applies to PX-RES in a Platinum Frame with PT/PM Crosspoints.
