1 WinYou Law Setup Workgroup Edition I. Overview TIP: You can test the WinYou Law Workgroup Edition on your network with the Free Trial! The only restriction: you must use the same login user on all computers (you cannot define more users in the free trial administrator). You can set up the WinYou Law workgroup edition in different ways, dependent on how your network and server are organized: TIP: If you feel uncomfortable with the described steps below, contact your IT professional or somebody who can help with this. Start WinYou Law once (to check that everything is working). Close WinYou Law General Information about WinYou Law Folders and Database Open Windows Explorer. Take a look at the WinYou Law folders in your Documents (screen shots taken from Windows 7): C:\Users\[user]\Documents\WinYou Law where [user] is your windows user name AutoDoc: is the document folder of WinYou Law. All Microsoft Word documents, drag & drop of Outlook messages and/or attachments or other files (like dictating or pdf files) are saved here. 4 With the ODBC Administrator you can browse or modify the path to the WinYou Law database. 32 Bit Windows: Click on Administrative Tools in Windows Control Panel: In Administrative Tools double-click Data Sources ODBC or 64 Bit Windows: You have to manually start the 32 bit odbcad32.exe (which is using the 32 bit registry settings) to configure your ODBC Connections manually (shortcut: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe ) for working with the 32 bit ODBC control panel and 32 bit databases). Tip: Search CMD.exe in the Start Menu, start CMD.exe, copy text C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe from here, in the CMD window right click to get the context menu, select paste to copy the text to the window, press enter to activate command: This starts the 32bit ODBC Data Source Administrator: The newer versions of WinYou Law administrator have a button for the ODBC Administrator directly. 5 Select WinYouLaw and press Button Configure : Click on Select to see where the database is located: IMPORTANT: Do not change the Data Source Name! This corresponds to the server in the WinYou Law login dialog: If changed, you will just have read-only access to the WinYou Law database. Now you have seen how WinYou Law works locally on your computer, where the WinYou Law database in located and how WinYou Law connects with ODBC to the database; as well as where the template folder is and where WinYou Law stores the created documents. 13 Setup the other computers that should connect to the WinYou Law shared database Now the other computers also should be connected to the server computer. For each computer do the following: 1. Install WinYou Law free trial 2. Perform following steps (as described above): 1) Step A to map to a network drive 2) Step B to modify the WinYouLaw ODBC Datasource to the WinYou Law database Now the WinYou Law program on all computers should share the same WinYou Law database (on the server computer ) WinYou Law / Installing Workgroup Edition.Docx / / gr 13 / 19

14 Modify the folder paths in the shared WinYou Law database Last steps (we are modifying the AutoDoc and Templates paths in the database to share them between all WinYou Law computers): Modify the path to the WinYou Law document AutoDoc folder: Start WinYou Law on one of the computers. In menu Tools click on Administrator In the WinYou Law Administrator, select Document folder: Enter the server path to the WinYouLaw\AutoDoc folder in the Directory field: \\SERVERNAME\WinYouLaw\AutoDoc TIP: Always use the <default user>, not any individual users. Click on Save to save the changes. You can test if the server path exists: Click on Explore AutoDoc Folder. A windows explorer window should open, showing the content of the AutoDoc folder. Click on Save to save the changes. You can test if the server path exists: click on Explore Template Folder. A windows explorer window should open, showing the content of the Templates folder: TIP: If you are experiencing any problems with Microsoft Wor, normal.dot and other templates, then we recommend to keep the WinYou Law template folder local on each computer. This is the way how Microsoft Word is working. If you change any of the templates, do not forget to copy them to all WinYou Law computers unless you want individual templates. 18 Click on File as in Word: The File As dialog from Word should show the path to the server computer AutoDoc. 3. Close Document WinYou Law should now show the work screen for the test project. In the work screen you should see the created document entry. 4. Double Click on the created document entry in the test Project (in the Work Screen) Saved document should open in Word 5. Go to next computer, click on refresh project explorer, the newly created text project should show up. 6. Double click on the test project 7. Double click on the document entry Word should open up the document. 8. Now start over again with the next computer: create a new project as in step 1...
