2 Get 7 up FAQ What is "Get 7 up!"? What is the project about, what will it improve? As part of IPO s "Working Smarter" initiative, you are being provided with a new - more modern - work space. It includes Windows 7, as well as an upgraded office application environment (featuring Office 2007, Lotus Notes 8.5, McAfee antivirus, etc.). How will I benefit from these new features? Switching over to Windows 7 and its environment will help you optimise the way in which you use your workstation: performance is improved, start-up is faster, there's better security, increased reliability and a more user-friendly design as well as a more intelligent collaborative environment for everybody! Who is this project aimed at? Everyone. It concerns all Schneider employees. A drive is currently under way to standardise IT facilities for all of the group's employees. Depending on your current situation, you may already have been given a new Windows 7 workstation as part of an upgrade or following your involvement in the project test phases. Or, you do not already have Windows 7 and will be contacted over the next few weeks to upgrade your PC. What is the schedule? Since January, the new Windows 7 workspace has been the standard environment for each new workstation deployed at Schneider Electric. Everyone is now able to enjoy its benefits! The first upgrades are scheduled for mid-july, and will be staggered through to the end of Specific schedules for each site will soon be available at: How will I be informed? How can I get training? You will receive several s before the project is operationally deployed. A slideshow presenting the project will be sent to you soon. Throughout the deployment phase and PC upgrade process, , user guides and animated tutorials will support you. A special online "Get 7 Up! area will inform you in real time at: How will my PC be upgraded? What is the upgrade process? What are the key steps? Your PC will be upgraded automatically at your convenience with limited actions required from you.,all you have to do is select an availability date and you won't have to be anywhere near your PC!, all your data, business applications, favourites, etc. will be kept. 3 steps: Check Prepare
3 Launch Please have a look at the PC upgrade guide for more details. View the upgrade guide. Do I have to be there? Will I have to do it all myself? What will I have to do? No, you do not have to be there. You approve your details and confirm the date on which the upgrade is scheduled. You prepare your PC, following the instructions that you will have been given. The PC upgrade operation will start automatically at the time you have selected without a technician involvement. How will I know if the upgrade has started? A screen message will tell you that the operation is under way. You will not be able to use your keyboard and mouse. How long will it last? How will I know when it's complete? Upgrade times vary, but usually take at least 7 hours. The time it takes will depend on how much data you have and the number of applications on your PC. When you log on, a message on the screen will tell you that the operation is complete. What arrangements have been made for special cases or people who will be absent? If you are away for the entire project period (holiday, trip, illness), the support team will help you upgrade your PC when you get back. For any other kind of absence, you will need to set aside a date at your convenience during the project period. What will happen to my data? As per our instructions, you have to group all of your data together in the "My Documents" folder so that we can save it all in a centralised, secured area. You will find the contents of your old "Pictures" folder in the "Pictures" folder of your new environment. All your other documents will be in the "Documents" folder. Does this project involve changing my PC? Installing new software? Whether or not your PC will need to be changed will be decided before the PC upgrade phase begins. You will be contacted in due course if this is necessary. You will get the most recent Schneider standard software version that you will see in the upgrade guide for your PC. Can I keep all my business software? Yes, automatically in most cases. However, IT support will be able to help you for any additional installation requests. Who can I contact if I need help? You can contact the telephone support service on 2929 (option 7) for all requests. This dedicated line is available for all questions to do with upgrading your PC. My colleague has received an about upgrading his PC, but I haven't. Is that normal? Your PC might not be eligible for the upgrade process. Or, it may be that your PC is scheduled to be upgraded a few days later. I ve lost some data, how can I recover it? Data saved outside the standard directories (My documents, Lotus Notes/data) are restored to the C:\backup directory.
4 How can I change the Windows 7 language installed on my computer? The choice must be made during the migration process. If the default choice is not suitable, you will need to refuse the migration, indicating your reason for doing so. Then contact IT support to rearrange the migration of your computer with the correct language. Why is Windows 8 not being installed? Windows 8 includes a significant number of changes for the user compared with Windows P. It would take much too long to learn to use it. Windows 7, on the other hand, is a logical evolution from its predecessor Windows P as far as users are concerned. Moreover, Windows 8 would result in substantial equipment and licensing costs to ensure compatibility with our existing hardware and software. Finally, Windows 8 is not well-suited to the requirements of business, and therefore is not currently widely used: only 28% of companies are seeking to introduce it according to an official source from May What new features does Windows 7 have? What will I get from Windows 7? Windows 7 is designed to simplify your everyday activities: Easy-to-use. The desktop design has been overhauled so that you can find all the documents that you need regularly more quickly. Performance and power consumption. Start-up, hibernation and resume are all faster. It uses less memory and takes less time to detect peripheral USB devices. Laptops have longer battery life, increasing their usage performance. Security. Major improvements with management via your PC's Maintenance centre. What new features can I take advantage of? New features for... The taskbar To find out more... FAQ Tutorial User Guide The Start menu The on/off button (hibernate, change user ) Search The notification area Handling windows/aero effects Windows Explorer and libraries Control Panel Utilities: Snipping tool, Sticky Notes, Connecting to a projector What is the Aero effect? Windows Aero (Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open) is Windows 7 s premium interface, featuring 4 main highly practical visual effects:
5 Aero Flip 3D: view all of your open windows in a three-dimensional view and easily switch between them. Aero Peek: instantly show the Desktop by hovering your mouse cursor over the translucent button in the bottom right-hand side of your screen. Aero Shake: minimise all of your windows, except the active one. Aero Snap: easily reorganise the position and dimensions of open windows. What are the new "Search" features in Windows 7? The Search zone on the Start menu now has more sophisticated features for finding files, applications, different Control Panel settings and system and network folders. How can I quickly set up a video projector or a second screen? By using the following shortcuts: [Windows] + [P] or by using the "Connect to a projector" utility.
