About this Guide This document is an Installation Guide that describes the SSA Baan IV software installation. This document is intended for anyone who wants to perform a fresh installation of SSA Baan IV on a UNIX server. No detailed knowledge is required to use this document. However, you must have an elementary knowledge of UNIX to understand this document. In addition, understanding the contents is easier if you are familiar with how SSA Baan IV is structured with the following: Package VRCs Package combinations Derived-from structure This document describes an installation of SSA Baan IV on a single UNIX server. The examples and descriptions of actions on the UNIX prompt presuppose the use of the Korn shell (ksh). The following types of databases are considered: Oracle DB2 Informix The actual installation of the external databases, which are Oracle, DB2, and Informix, is outside the scope of this document. The process to install these databases is described in separate Installation Guides. UNIX keywords, path names, and so on are printed bold (case-sensitive), for example: the cpio command; use licmon6.1 -b; cd $BSE/bin. Variables of any kind are in italics, for example: create the directory pathname/baan, which asks you to create a subdirectory baan somewhere in the file system, for example, /usr3/baan or /disk1/temp/baan.

Chapter 1 Installation preparations 1 Before you can install SSA Baan IV on a UNIX system, a number of preconditions must be met. Be sure to review the following documents: Deployment Guide for SSA Baan IVc4 (U7949 US) Technical Notes for SSA Baan IVc4 (U8212 US) Release Notes for Service Pack B40c4.10 (P3342 US) Porting set 6.1c07xxx Release Notes (P3193 US) The Deployment Guide describes the steps that you must take to come to a complete installation. You will likely find a hardcopy of the documents in the distribution box, or else on the documentation CD-ROM. Before you can start the installation script, you must also check or configure several items, including the following: Hardware and software requirements Kernel tuning Swap space Test TCP/IP Create the required UNIX group Create UNIX users Set environment variables

1-2 Installation preparations Hardware and software requirements You can use several hardware configurations to install SSA Baan IV. The following list provides the minimum requirements to install SSA Baan IV. For additional sizing information, contact SSA Global. A UNIX or OS/390 system One of the certified databases, installed and running. The actual installation of these external databases is described in separate Installation Guides. The following databases are certified: Oracle Informix DB2 TCP/IP software, installed, configured, and running A CD-ROM drive for the database and SSA Baan IV distribution A network adapter Kernel tuning The kernel of the UNIX machine must be tuned to accommodate the projected number of SSA Baan IV users and database. For more information on how to tune the kernel for SSA Baan IV, refer to the SSA Baan IVc/BaanERP Kernel Tuning Guide (U7622 US). Swap space Reserve a hard disk space equivalent to 2.5 to three times the size of the internal memory for the UNIX swap space.

Installation preparations 1-3 To test TCP/IP To start the license daemon, TCP/IP must be correctly configured. Verify that the command ping hostname produces a correct response. The response time for this command must not be longer than 20 milliseconds (ms). coral#ping coral 65 7 PING coral.baan.com: ( ): 65 data bytes 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=10 ms 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=0 ms 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=0 ms 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=0 ms 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=4 ttl=255 time=0 ms 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=5 ttl=255 time=0 ms 73 bytes from : icmp_seq=6 ttl=255 time=0 ms ----coral.baan.com PING Statistics packets transmitted, 7 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 0/1/10 ms coral# To create the UNIX group bsp Before you can install the SSA software, you must have the UNIX group account bsp. To add this group, you can use a standard system administration utility. The bsp group includes those users who are granted system administration privileges for the Baan database. The recommended UNIX group ID for the group bsp is 125, unless this ID is not feasible.

1-4 Installation preparations To create UNIX users Several UNIX users are required for the SSA installation. To create the required users, you can use a standard system administration tool. For help in regard to the system administration utility on a specific operating system, refer to the corresponding system manuals. Note that the most frequently used type of logon shell for Baan users is ksh (Korn shell). The following table provides details of the users: Logon ID User ID Primary group Group ID Home directory Password bsp 125 bsp 125 $BSE/home/bsp 250bSp demo 128 bsp 125 $BSE/home/demo 123demo tools 129 bsp 125 $BSE/home/tools 123tools applic 130 bsp 125 $BSE/home/applic 123applic To change a group ID, use the system administration utility, or change the ID directly in /etc/group. Use user ID 125 for the most important user in an SSA Baan IV environment, in other words, the user bsp. This user is the owner of the software and is, therefore, mandatory. If the user bsp does not exist on the system before installation, the installation script will fail. To set environment variables on UNIX To define the $BSE variables in the users.profiles, rather than to the system-wide /etc/profile, you must be aware of the following: During the installation, the ${BSE}/home/loginid directories are created, if these directories do not already exist, and the SSA Baan IV.profiles are created and placed in these directories. If you already have (default).profiles in these directories, which occurs if you use a system administrator utility to create users, these.profiles will not be overwritten. Therefore, if you want to use the Baan.profiles, be sure to remove any.profiles before you start the installation script.

Installation preparations 1-5 A useful tip is to create an environment settings file in the $BSE directory named, for example, setbse. You can use this file to set quickly the SSA Baan IV environment variables while you are in the $BSE directory. Set the variables for BSE, BSE_TMP, PATH=$BSE/bin:$PATH and do not forget to export the variables. Insert the following line: Export BSE BSE_TMP PATH. The following is an example of how to create a setbse file: vi setbse BSE=/usr1/baan4/bse BSE_TMP=$BSE/tmp PATH=$BSE/bin:$PATH export BSE BSE_TMP PATH To run the script, use the following command: $../setbse To select the database driver level The SSA Baan IV application communicates with the database through a database-specific driver. This driver translates application queries into (database) native SQL queries. As a result, the SSA Baan IV application is database-independent. Level 1 driver For the DB2 and Informix databases supported by the SSA software, a socalled level 1 driver is available. Level 1 signifies that the Baan database driver splits complicated Baan SQL statements into simple queries for the database server in an optimal way. As a result, the Baan software, rather than the database, performs the optimization of the SQL statements. Level 2 driver A level 2 driver receives all queries from the Baan Virtual machine and sends these queries almost directly to the database. If applicable, the driver adds a hint to the query for optimal execution by the database engine.

1-6 Installation preparations Before you begin the SSA Baan IV installation, you must decide whether you want to work with the Level 1 driver or with Level 2. To change a level after the installation, you must carry out a conversion of the entire database. For the latest SSA Baan IV versions, SSA recommends that you use Level 2 for new installations.

Chapter 2 To install SSA Baan IV 2 The process to install the software includes the two major steps: Load the software Install the software For the appropriate mount command to mount the SSA Baan IV distribution CD-ROM, consult your hardware documentation. For example, you can mount the CD-ROM on /cdrom. The master shipment consists of two CD-ROMs: a Porting Set Installation CD-ROM and an Application Installation CD-ROM. However, the Application CD-ROM can consist of two or more CD-ROMs. The two major steps to install SSA Baan IV are the following: 1 Load the software from CD-ROM: The following section, To load the software, describes this step in detail. 2 Install the software: After you load the software from the CD-ROM, you can start the installation. The section To install the software describes this step in detail.

2-2 To install SSA Baan IV To load the software This section describes how to load the software from a local CD-ROM device attached to the UNIX server. Take the following steps: 1 Log on as user root and create the directory in which to load the software, for example, /usr2/cdrom. To create this directory, type the following commands: #mkdir /usr2/cdrom #chmod 777 /usr2/cdrom Note Never load the software into a directory of an existing BSE environment, because this can destroy the existing environment. Another possible consequence is that the installation script might not work. 2 Type the following command to change directories to the directory that you created in Step 1: #cd /usr2/cdrom 3 Insert and mount the Porting Set installation CD-ROM. 4 Enter the following command at the system prompt to retrieve the installation script from CD-ROM: #cp /cdrom/unix/cd.read6.1 /usr2/cdrom 5 Start the cd.read6.1 utility from the UNIX shell to read the software from the CD-ROM. If you start the cd.read6.1 script from the CD-ROM directly, you cannot mount the next CD-ROM. Enter the following command: # sh cd.read6.1 A window with Help information now appears. Read the information and press ENTER. The following menu appears, which asks you which option must be installed. Available options for this cd.read6.1 1) Select Operating System and Packages 2) Select Operating System only 3) Select Packages only 4) Select components for Workstation installation

To install SSA Baan IV 2-3 Choice: [1] Press ENTER to choose 1 for a complete installation of the Package VRCs and operating system, which is known as a full-server installation. Press 2 to read the executables for the chosen operating system from the CD-ROM. The cd.read6.1 script skips the steps that describe the VRC and language selection. Press 3 to read the Package VRCs from the CD-ROM. The cd.read6.1 script skips Steps 9 and 10. Press 4 to read the workstation software from the CD-ROM. 6 Select option 1. A question appears that asks you where the Porting Set CD-ROM is mounted: Mount the cdrom with the Operating System (Porting Sets) Enter the location of the cdrom file system: [/cdrom] Another menu appears that asks you which operating system you want to install. Select the relevant operating system. A question appears that asks where the Application CD-ROM is mounted: Mount the first cdrom with the Baan Packages Enter the location of the cdrom file system: [/cdrom] The readme.mas file appears. 7 Press ENTER to continue. A menu appears that prompts you for the packages you want to install. 8 Press ENTER to install the displayed packages. Press N followed by ENTER to choose other packages. A menu appears that asks you which languages you want to install. 9 Press ENTER to install the displayed languages. You can also press N followed by ENTER to choose other languages. A message appears that shows the available amount of disk space. If insufficient disk space is available to read the software, you must create more disk space. Another option is to choose fewer languages or packages and restart the process. 10 Press ENTER to continue.

2-4 To install SSA Baan IV After all the required software is read from CD-ROM, you are ready to run install6.1 to install the software. Continue with the following section, To install the software. To install the software After the software is read from CD-ROM using the cd.read6.1 utility, you must install the software with the installation script install6.1. Note Before you can start the installation, you must have the external RDBMS installed on the system. You must create a new database (instance) for SSA Baan IV. The actual installations of external databases, for example, Oracle, Informix, and DB2, are described in separate Installation Guides. To install the SSA Baan IV software, take the following steps: 1 Log on as user root (do not use the su command) and set the TERM variable to vt100, or any other valid value. 2 If you install under X-windows, you must fill in the variable DISPLAY. The software is installed under X-windows if the environment variable DS_SERVER has the value bx, or if the installation is multibyte. In all other cases, the software is installed under ba. 3 Change directories to the directory in which the cd.read6.1 script read the SSA Baan IV files and enter the following command: # cd /usr2/cdrom #./install6.1 Note To stop the selection phase of the installation script, up until the final question, Are You Ready for Installation? appears, press an interrupt, for example, CTRL+C. You can restart the script as often as you want. From the script, press the EXCLAMATION POINT to activate a subshell. To end this subshell, type exit at the UNIX prompt. You then return to the script at the point where you left off. Note Never use the tee command to create a log file. If you use the tee command, the installation script starts the bshell and no bshell windows appear on the

To install SSA Baan IV 2-5 screen. During the installation, the log.install6.1 log file is generated in the directory where the installation was started. 4 After a temporary bse environment is created under the installation directory, you are asked to supply the path to the Baan Software Environment (BSE) directory. Be sure to enter the complete path. The path must have a depth of at least two directories, for example, /usr1/bse. Do not incorporate any version numbers in the path in view of possible future conversions to newer versions. Note BSE paths such as /usr1/baan4/bse are easy to use. In this case, you can easily see, in case of more installations, which software belongs to which environment. A message appears that asks you to specify the environment variable BSE_TMP. 5 Supply the path or accept the displayed default. The next question asks whether you want to write the values of the $BSE-related variable to the system wide profile /etc/profile or to the.profile files of the individual users. 6 For best results, you must write the values of the $BSE-related variable to the.profile files of the individual users. A message appears that asks you to enter the hostnames of the systems for which a license is required. The installation procedure displays the name of the local system as default. 7 Supply the hostnames.

2-6 To install SSA Baan IV 8 Multiple database drivers are available. The system asks you to specify a database driver for each company and asks which database driver you want to use: Note If you choose the Oracle Server, the database driver Level 2 will be selected automatically. In this case, no question appears. After you select the database drivers, a list of all drivers appears for each company. 9 If the displayed list is correct, press ENTER to continue. A message appears that asks you to supply the path for the directories where the DICTIONARY, OPERATIONAL, and DEMO table dumps (temporarily) must be created. The dumps are stored by company, for example, /usr1/baan4/test/<company>. The demo tables themselves are created in the database after the Install Demo Tables (ttiex1290m000) session runs. If one or more localizations were loaded from CD-ROM, the system asks which version must be placed in the package combination for each package. Remember that, at this point, all available VRCs are installed, regardless of

To install SSA Baan IV 2-7 the VRCs that you choose to include in the package combination. If you fill in the package combination in the following step, all the packages that will be installed for that package combination will be displayed. Note that you must install standard VRCs in all cases. Always choose the latest release of the standard software, because demo tables rely on their layout. You can build localization Package VRCs and package combinations later. Note For The Netherlands, the WKA localization (nl10) is mandatory in combination with the Finance package and the Project package. In this case, the package combination must be B40Lreleasenl10. For a package combination that includes the global localization VRCs, create the B40Lreleaseglo0 package combination. Note If, for one or more packages, no choice can be made because only one VRC exists, the script skips the question for this package. The package VRC, however, will be included in the package combination. You are now asked to enter the name of the package combination that must be created. 10 Specify the package combination a name and description that refer to the functionality included in the package combination. After you enter the name of the package combination, install6.1 displays the packages that will be installed for the package combination. Example If only standard VRCs are available, create a standard package combination with the name B40Srelease, for example, B40Sc. If the binaries that must be installed can accommodate multibyte, the system now asks a number of questions that relate to multibyte. 11 Choose multibyte if you want to install languages with multibyte character sets, such as Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese, or Korean. First, multibyte asks whether you intend to use multibyte. If you type yes, you must indicate how the multibyte data must be stored, for example, native or TSS (Baan Superset). If you type no, the system skips the other questions and asks if you want to continue. At this point of the installation, a message appears that asks if you want to start the installation.

2-8 To install SSA Baan IV 12 Press Y and press ENTER to start the installation. Note that the database must be initialized. Note An error message can appear that indicates that the Preinst preinstallation tool encountered errors. The Preinst utility performs various checks on the UNIX environment. You can choose to cancel the installation and tune the UNIX operating system first, or to continue and tune the UNIX operating system after the installation. For a detailed description on Preinst, refer to Appendix A. 13 Press ENTER to continue. For external databases Oracle, DB2 or Informix, the Do you want to run a special installation script to connect the database (instance) with Baan IV? Press Y question appears. You then receive a UNIX prompt. For further information, refer to the relevant Database Installation guide for SSA Baan IV, in the section To link to SSA Baan IV. Post-installation tasks After the installation is complete, you must check the following points: If a patch CD-ROM was delivered with your software, you must now install the patch CD-ROM. Use the install6.1 script in the directory where the patch CD-ROM is read. Before you install the patch, first read the readme file in the patch directory. For more information, refer to the Installation Manual of the patch CD-ROM. After the installation, the installation directory must be empty. The log files for the installation are in $BSE/log. Check these log files, particularly log.install6.1. Make sure that the home directories of the standard users are the home directories created during the installation. Modify the.profiles, if required..

Chapter 3 To customize the SSA Baan IV software 3 After the SSA Baan IV installation is complete, you must customize the SSA Baan IV software. The customizing process includes the following postinstallation tasks: 1 Install the demo dumps. 2 Create tables for the demo models. 3 Validate the system. 4 Install the demo dumps for Orgware. 5 Initialize parameters. 6 Configure shared memory. 7 Create the audit database and to assign tables. 8 Define the default currencies. 9 Change passwords. 10 Set development parameters and authorizations. 11 Reorganize tables. 12 Anticipate shutdowns and restarts. 13 Set permissions and checks. 14 Configure printers. Select the Only Show Current VRC check box for all users, except for bsp and tools.

3-14 To customize the SSA Baan IV software To anticipate shutdowns and to reboot You can adjust the machine settings so that SSA Baan IV automatically stops in case of a system shutdown and starts at boot time. The type of operating system (OS) you use determines the correct way to adjust these settings. In addition, take precautions to stop and start external databases, if present. The strict rule is that you must start the external databases before you start SSA Baan IV, and that you must stop the external databases after you stop SSA Baan IV. Consider the possibility that the external database is used with other programs than SSA Baan IV. Test whether rc.stop and rc.start run properly upon shutdown and restart of the system. Set permissions and checks The binperm6.1 script sets the right permission for the files in the $BSE/bin directory. You must run this command by user root. A common problem is that after you patch the tools as user root, the permissions for the SSA Baan IV Tools main menu, mtls1000m0001language code, are set to root:sys instead of bsp:bsp. As a result, the user tools is unable to read the Startup menu. Binperm6.1 does not address this problem, because binperm6.1 only checks $BSE/bin. You must correct these permissions manually. To change the permissions, log on as user root, change directories to $BSE/tools/ttB40_c4/mtttlslanguage code, and enter the following command: # chown bsp * # chgrp bsp * The language codes are 1 for Dutch, 2 for English, 3 for German, 4 for French, and so on.

To customize the SSA Baan IV software 3-15 To configure a printer This section describes how to configure a printer in the software on a UNIX machine. You must define the printer (type), as well as the printer code in the software and the UNIX printer queue that the printer must serve. The printer must be operational on UNIX level before you can configure the printer. To configure a printer, take the following steps: 1 Log on to SSA Baan IV and choose Device Management from the SSA Baan IV Tools main menu. 2 Choose Maintain Device Data from the Maintenance menu to start the Maintain Device Data (ttaad3100m000) session. 3 Enter the desired data, for example: In the Device field, specify the desired code for the printer that the end user must select in the software, for example, PNL0256. In the Description field, enter the full description for the printer. In the Device Type field, specify the desired type of printer that the end user must select in the software, for example, Direct, Printer, or Windows Printer.

3-16 To customize the SSA Baan IV software The Locale field indicates the character set. Use the browse arrow to select the appropriate set. In the Driver field, select the appropriate driver from the subdirectory of $BSE/lib/printinf, for example, hp_lj4. In the Device Queue field, enter the correct path, for example, /usr/bin/lp. Enter the name of the printer queue on UNIX level, for example, pr1062. Enter the other parameters and data as shown in the previous figure.

Chapter 4 Scripts 4 This chapter provides the start and stop scripts for the SSA Baan IV software. Run-level method This section contains the script for the run level method. #!/sbin/sh # # Start/stop SSA software <version> environment # SSA GLOBAL <date> # HP-version BSE=/usr1/baan4/bse PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin export PATH case $1 in 'start_msg') echo "Starting SSA SOFTWARE <version>" ;; 'stop_msg') echo "Stopping SSA SOFTWARE <version>" ;;

4-2 Scripts 'start') if [ -f $BSE/etc/rc.start ] then rm -f $BSE/tmp/rc.start_done sh $BSE/etc/rc.start fi ;; 'stop') if [ -f $BSE/etc/rc.stop ] then rm -f $BSE/tmp/rc.stop_done sh $BSE/etc/rc.stop fi ;; *) echo "usage: $0 {start stop start_msg stop_msg}" ;; esac exit 0 Direct method This section contains the script for the direct startup and shutdown methods. To start The following example text provides the script for the direct startup method: # Initialize SSA SOFTWARE <version> environment # SSA Global <date> if [ -f $BSE/etc/rc.start ] then rm -f $BSE/tmp/rc.start_done echo Starting SSA BAAN IV

Scripts 4-3 sh $BSE/etc/rc.start fi To stop The following example text provides the script for the direct shutdown method: # Stop SSA SOFTWARE <version> environment # SSA Global <date> if [ -f $BSE/etc/rc.stop ] then rm -f $BSE/tmp/rc.stop_done echo Stopping SSA BAAN IV sh $BSE/etc/rc.stop fi General Rc.stop does not stop the license daemon, and, therefore, if you do not restart the system, rc.stop produces an error message on rc.start. The message reads License daemon already running. In addition, the pdaemon can produce an error message that reads Already running or pd_lock not removed. Remove the pd_lock, for which the path, $BSE/tmp is specified in the message, and start the pdaemon with pdaemontools_version. For example, for SSA Baan IV, use pdaemon6.1. To check whether the license and printer daemons are running, type the following: ps -ef grep lic and ps -ef grep pdae PMC and the batch install solution You must now initialize and set up the Product Maintenance and Control (PMC) tool, as described in the Quick Guide Product Maintenance and Control document, which is available on the Service Pack CD-ROM Batch Install. For additional instructions on how to initialize PMC, refer to the Installation Guide for SSA Baan IVc4 SP Batch Install Solution (U7859A US).

4-4 Scripts After you initialize PMC, you must use the Batch Installer to install all standard Service Packs, as described in the Installation Guide for SSA Baan IVc4 SP Batch Install Solution (U7859A US).

Appendix A Preinst utility A This appendix describes the functionality of the Preinst utility. The install6.1 script starts this utility, and checks the server environment during the installation of SSA Baan IV. You can also start the Preinst utility manually to check an operational SSA Baan IV installation. The following sections describe the various possibilities when you use the Preinst utility. To run Preinst during, or immediately after, SSA Baan IV installation During an installation or update of the SSA Baan IV software on a UNIX platform, the install6.1 installation script calls the Preinst utility. The Preinst utility is part of the SSA Baan IV installation process, and enables you to perform various checks on the UNIX environment. The checks Preinst performs concern the following: Kernel parameters Checks of single-byte/multibyte database Disk space Maximum file size Required standard users

A-2 Preinst utility TCP/IP configuration Environment variables Run-time environment versus data dictionary Options to speed up installation Data installation Checks of tables VRC customization Client/server installation Existence of fixes The Preinst utility uses the values in the kernel_cfg file to check the items provided in the previous list. The kernel_cfg file contains the minimal kernel parameters of the system. This file is installed in the $BSE/lib file. If Preinst detects that the current value of a parameter is less than the value defined in the kernel_cfg file, a warning message appears. After all of the checks are complete, if one or more errors are detected, Preinst displays the following message: Errors found during system check, continue? You can choose one of the following options: Cancel the SSA Baan IV installation software and tune the UNIX operating system before you restart the SSA Baan IV installation. Continue the SSA Baan IV installation, and tune the UNIX operating system, after the SSA Baan IV installation is complete. You are not required to write down the warnings that Preinst generates, because those messages are written into the $BSE/log/log.preinst file. Note While Preinst runs, you are asked if you want to check all the SSA Baan IV tables, including those in the run-time environment, or only those in the data dictionary.

Preinst utility A-3 The following script shows how the $BSE/lib/kernel_cfg file is set up. The name of each parameter is followed by a formula to extract the current value of the parameter, an operator, and a condition: # Kernel configuration file # Version 6.1 # rklip, # Updated for HPUX10.0 and IBM AIX4.1 # Entries that must exist: # Machine-id # OS-release # Kernel # Kernel type # MEMORY # USERS # MAXFSIZE output in Mb's # CMD df <device name> <size in Mb's> <filesystem> # don't use in the df command definition awk with printf! # CMD ping must give percentage packet loss, if not don't # define the command Machine-id: HP9000_PA_RISC OS-release: HPUX9.0 Kernel: /hp-ux # Configuration files in order of checking first Kernel configuration files: /etc/conf/gen/s800, /etc/master # Kernel type: 1 = static, 2 = static/patch, 3 = dynamic Kernel type: 1 # Internal memory MEMORY: CURRENT: `/etc/sysdef 2>/dev/null grep "physical memory is" \ awk '{print $4}'` OPERATOR: CONDITION: # Number of Triton users USERS: CURRENT: `ksh -c "if [! -f /.brand/brand6.1 -o! -f ${BSE}/bin/licmon6.1 ]; \ then echo 2; else licmon6.1 -b \ grep users awk '{TOT += $4}END{print TOT}'; fi"` OPERATOR: CONDITION: # nproc NPROC: CURRENT: `/etc/sysdef 2>/dev/null grep -i nproc cut -d= -f 2` OPERATOR: ge CONDITION: 64 * USERS # maxuproc MAXUPROC: CURRENT: `/etc/sysdef 2>/dev/null grep -i maxuprc cut -d= -f 2` OPERATOR: ge CONDITION:

A-4 Preinst utility To run Preinst in an operational SSA Baan IV environment You can also use the Preinst utility to perform checks on an operational system that runs on SSA Baan IV. To use Preinst in an operational SSA Baan IV environment, take the following steps: 1 Choose Run Program from the File menu to run the ottiexpreinst session and run the Preinst utility at regular times. 2 Use the information in the $BSE/bse/ log.preinst log file to retune your server. For a description of how to solve the errors listed in the log.preinst log file, refer to the SSA Baan IVc/iBaan ERP Kernel Tuning Guide (U7622AUS).

Appendix B To install Baan Windows B This appendix describes how to install Baan Windows (BW), which is a graphical user interface program in Baan IV. BW runs on an Intel-compatible PC in a Windows 2000 environment. BW displays SSA Baan IV as an application with the same look and feel as a native Microsoft Windows application. This appendix describes the following topics: Hardware and software requirements How to install the Baan Windows software How to configure the Shared Memory Manager How to uninstall the SSA Baan IV software Hardware and software requirements Before you can install BW, you must meet the following software and hardware requirements: The operating system Windows 2000 or Windows NT Server must be installed and running.
