5 About this document This guide describes how to install the BAAN Windows client software. The guide is divided into two chapters and one appendix. Chapter 1 describes the installation of the BAAN Windows client software. Chapter 2 describes miscellaneous administration tasks. iii

7 1 Installing BAAN Windows This chapter describes: The hardware and software requirements for BAAN Windows (BW) How to install the BAAN Windows software BAAN Windows (BW) is a graphical user interface (GUI) program in BAAN IV. It runs on an Intel-compatible PC in a Windows 95 or Windows NT environment. BW displays BAAN IV as an application with the same look and feel as a native Windows application. Hardware and software requirements You need the following software and hardware before you can install BAAN Windows (BW). The operating system Windows 95 or Windows NT Server version 4.0 must be installed and running. The system on which BAAN Windows must be installed, must be at least an Intel-based system with a 50 Mhz 486DX processor. Furthermore, BAAN Windows requires at least a SVGA video display, 16 MB of main memory (RAM), and 2 MB of free disk space. A network adapter as recommended by the supplier of the TCP/IP stack. The TCP/IP network software must be installed and running (the TCP/IP stack must support Windows Sockets level 1.1). 1-1

8 Installing the BAAN Windows (BW) software To install the BAAN Windows (BW) software, you can follow one of these procedures: If you have a UNIX BAAN IV server, the BAAN Windows (BW) software can be copied from the directory $BSE/mswindows/bw_043.exe on the server to the client by using ftp. Double-click the file bw_043.exe. This starts the BW installation program. If the client has a local CD-ROM drive, you can install BAAN Windows (BW) directly by using the BAAN IV distribution CD-ROM. If the client has no CD-ROM drive, you can share the CD-ROM of the server. NOTE The description below assumes that your client has a local CD-ROM drive and is running the Windows NT operating system. Take the following steps to install BAAN Windows. 1 Close all running applications and insert the BAAN IV distribution CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. 2 A Welcome message is displayed. Choose Next. 3 A Licence Agreement message screen is displayed. Choose Yes. 4 The Choose Destination Location dialog box is displayed. Accept the default path or choose Browse to enter another path. Shoose Next to continue. 1-2

10 You can select the following server types: User Interface This type is a BAAN Windows (BW) client. User Interface and Logic This type is a stripped version of a BAAN IV Windows NT server (with local application logic). Full installation (including application files and database) This type is the complete BAAN IV Windows NT server version. 6 Select User Interface and choose Next. The Folder Selection dialog box is displayed. Select the Program Folder to which the BAAN Windows icons must be added (default BAAN IV) and choose Next. 7 The Setup Information dialog box is displayed. Choose Next to continue with the displayed setup (or choose Back to change the displayed setup). 8 After the software is installed you must choose OK to exit the installation script. The BAAN IV program folder is displayed. Double-click the BW Configuration Tool icon. The BW Configuration dialog box is displayed. 1-4

11 NOTE: NOTE: 9 Supply the following information. On the Application Server tab you must fill in the following boxes: Hostname Enter the host name of the BAAN IV server. Connect As Enter a valid user name as known on the BAAN IV server. Ask password at startup If this check box is selected, you can only supply the password during the BAAN IV login procedure. Use saved password If this check box is selected, the BAAN IV logon procedure is skipped, and the saved password is used. Current user Select this check box to make use of the Windows Integrated Security feature. In this case you will use your current user identity to log on to the BAAN IV Windows NT server. For Windows 95 the unified logon feature will only work if you are actually logged on to Windows 95. You can only make use of the Windows Integrated Security feature, if your BAAN IV server is a Windows NT server. BSE Enter the path to the BSE environment on the BAAN IV server (equals the BSE environment variable on the BAAN IV server). Bshell name Enter the application logic to use on the remote BAAN IV host (changing the default of bshell will only be useful during debugging). Command Enter the option you want to pass to the bshell. You can, for example, define environment variables by using the following syntax: -- -set Environment Variable1=xxx -set Environment Variable2=yyy On the NLS tab, you must fill in the following box: Locale Select the character set to be used (the default character set is International [ISO]). 1-5

12 NOTE: NOTE: NOTE: NOTE: On the Font tab, fill in the following box: Font Type Enter the desired font type. You can change the setting by choosing the button at the right side of the font boxes. Choose Save As to save the new configuration in a different configuration file. However, only one configuration can be active per BAAN IV session. 10 Choose RUN! to start your BAAN IV session. The BAAN IV.bwc files are registered by the Windows NT or Windows 95 operating system. You can find the.bwc files in the directory Lib\User under the installation directory of the BAAN client software. This implies that you can start a BAAN IV logon procedure by double-clicking the icon in front of the relevant.bwc file in the File Manager. You can also make BAAN IV program icons by dragging the.bwc configuration files to a Program Group. 11 Start your BAAN IV session, and select the User Management menu from the Tools main menu. Start the Download Windows Help Files (ttadv5245m000) session to download the proper Windows help file. First choose Options and then Get Defaults. Select the packages you want to download help for. To select more than one, keep the CTRL button pressed in. Choose Download. There are more packages than the screen can display. The location of the Help files will be BWinstalldir\help\package combination. (In this case the package combination is B40Sc1). 1-6

13 2 Miscellaneous administration tasks This chapter describes miscellaneous administration tasks. It contains the following sections: The installation directory of BAAN Windows (BW) The BAAN Windows (BW) environment variables How to configure the SPX protocol for a BAAN Windows (BW) client How to uninstall BAAN Windows Installation directory of BAAN Windows (BW) The installation directory C:\BAAN is created during the setup process of BAAN Windows (BW). During setup you can alter the home directory of BAAN Windows (BW). In this section, we assume that the default name for the installation directory of BAAN Windows (BW) has been chosen: C:\BAAN. Next, setup creates additional subdirectories in directory C:\BAAN: C:\BAAN\BIN This directory contains the BW.EXE program to start the BAAN IV application. C:\BAAN\LIB This directory contains the files BW.INI (initialization file), BW.REG (object registration file), BW.TLB (information for OLE Automation), TSS_C6.1 (language support), TSS_LOCALE6.1 (language support) and BWLOGO.BMP (BAAN logo). C:\BAAN\LOG This directory contains logging information about BAAN Windows. C:\BAAN\SAMPLES This directory contains a number of spreadsheets through which Excel data can be loaded into BAAN IV by using BAAN IV dynamic link libraries. C:\BAAN\TMP This directory contains the temporary files. C:\BAAN\HELP This directory contains the Help files. 2-1

14 The following subdirectories are created in the directory C:\BAAN\LIB: C:\BAAN\LIB\LOCALE This directory contains the multibyte-languages support file SJIS. C:\BAAN\LIB\NLSINF This directory contains the special character set file XWINDOWS.IN. C:\BAAN\LIB\USER This directory contains the configuration files. BAAN Windows (BW) environment variables During the installation of the user interface program BAAN Windows, the environment variables BSE and BSE_TMP are set. The BSE variable points to the BAAN Windows installation directory, whereas the BSE_TMP variable points to the temporary directory under the installation directory. Under Windows NT you can check these environment variables by doubleclicking the System icon in the Control Panel. Under Windows 95 you can run the REGEDIT command to check the BAAN Windows environment variables. Configuring the SPX protocol for a BAAN Windows (BW) client On a BAAN IV server you can configure protocols by using the protocol configuration. On a pure client (that is, with only the BAAN Windows client software installed) you cannot open this dialog. By default, the TCP/IP protocol is used for the communication from the client to the BAAN IV server. If you want to change this protocol to the IPX/SPX protocol, you must use the regedit command to select it. To select the IPX/SPX protocol, you must create the following registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\BAAN\Machines\server\Protocol=SPX To enter this registry path, take the following steps: 1 Start the regedit utility. 2 Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. 3 Double-click SOFTWARE. 2-2

15 4 If the BAAN entry does not exist, you can create it by choosing the New command from the Edit menu, and by choosing the Key command. You now can add the BAAN entry. Otherwise, double-click the BAAN entry. 5 Open the BAAN entry and add the Machines entry as described in step 4. The same applies for the server (that is, the server to which you want to connect using the IPX/SPX protocol) in the Machines entry, and so on. 6 Open the Protocol entry and select the New command from the Edit menu. Select the String Value command to enter SPX as the value for the Protocol entry. 2-3

16 Uninstalling BAAN Windows Take the following steps to uninstall BAAN Windows: 1 Choose the uninstall option from the Baan folder. The Uninstalling Baan Services and Database dialog box is displayed. 2-4

17 2 Choose Next. The Confirm Uninstall dialog box is displayed. 3 Choose Next. The Confirm File Deletion message appears. 2-5

18 4 Choose Yes to continue. The Remove Program Files From Your Computer screen is displayed. Choose OK to complete the removal of BAAN Windows. 2-6
