2 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL 2 SYNCHRONIZATION WITH KIES The easiet way to synchronise your Tablet s content with your PC or MAC is by downloading Samsung Kies. Kies must be downloaded and installed from Samsung s website. Samsung has a learn-it-yourself-program that can introduce you to using Kies. The program is available from Samsung s website:

3 3 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL FIRST USE SETUP The first time you start your Samsung Galaxy Tablet, you are met by a welcome screen. 1. Select language. When you have made your choice, click Start. 3. Now you can enter date and time, or you can let the tablet determine the time over the network. 4. On the next screen, you can log on with your Google-account.. It is recommended to have a Google Account to get the most of the tablet. With a Google Account, you have, amongst other things, access to the Market, where you can download applications, like on Facebook, Skype, Angry Birds, etc. You can also use Google Maps with which you get free navigation. If you don t already have a Google Account, you can open one for free at Enter the username and password to your Google Account. Click next, and the tablet will verify your account connecting to either Wi-Fi or if you have a SIM-card, to mobile broadband. Alternatively, select skip and log on later, if you need to. If your tablet fails to connect to the Internet, you will be asked to connect to a Wi-Fi network. 5. Click on Connect to Wi-Fi and follow the on-screen instructions or see the chapter about asbvip and eduroam to see how to access Wi-Fi on campus. Note that you have to be pacient before you click next after having established connection to eduroam or asbvip. 2. Now decide whether or not you want to use Google s Location Service: programs can recieve information about your location from Google s Location Service without the use of GPS but by Wi-Fi and mobile networks.. 6. After you have connected to the network, you will once again be asked to log into a Google Account. Once your user is verified, you can select various synchronisation options that are described on-screen. You can change these settings later under the location and security settings and for Google searches. Check both boxes, and click next/næste.

4 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL 4 ICONS AND NAVIGATION Your tablet has 5 desktops you can switch between. By default, your tablet starts on desktop number 3, which you can always view by clicking the Home -icon in the bottom left corner (1). You can access the various desktops by swiping your finger left or right. The desktops content can be managed by clicking the little plus-sign in the top right corner (6). The tablet s programs can be accessed from the programs -icon (7). The icon with the magnifying glass (8) in the top left corner is a shortcut to making searches on your tablet and Google The back -icon is found to the left of the Home -icon. (2), that will always take you back one step/screen, previous web-page, window, etc. that you may just have left. The Programs -icon is found to the right of the Home -icon (3). Click on it to see an overview of the programs that are running on your tablet. The last icon is the Print Screen -icon (4). This saves a picture of what you are currently seeing on the screen. To the right in the tool bar, you can see the current battery level and a status on your Wi-Fi-connectiom and a clock. When you click one of these, you will see a pop-up window in which you can turn off or on various funcionality, change the display s light settings, and you can access the tablet s settings under Settings. Your messages, notification and more is found to the left of these 3 icons. The icon in the middle of the Task Bar (4) activates a new tool bar with shortcuts to the most used programs.

5 5 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL ACCESS THE WIRELESS NETWORK 1 This is how to set up your tablet to asbvip: 1. In the bottom right corner, next to the clock, click the selected icon Click on Tilgængelige Wi-Fi-netværk/Available Wi-Finetwork Click on Wi-Fi-network Select asbvip or eduroam, by clicking on its name Enter your logon details. In Identity, enter your full mail address username@asb.dk In Password, enter the same password you use to log on to your computer and Outlook. Then click OK You are now connected. It may take a few minutes before you can access the Internet.

6 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL 6 INSTALL NEW PROGRAMS You can install new programs ( application ) for your tablet in the Samsung Internet store, Google Play previously known as the Android Market. In this tutorial we will show you how to install Adobe Reader, so you can open PDF-files on your tablet. Play Store: Searching For Programs: In the top right corner of the Play Store, you can search for applications. 2. Search for Adober Reader and click on program you need. 2 NOTE. First time you open the Internet store, it will be called Android Marked, the Internet store will update when it can, and from then on be called Play Store. In this tutorial, we call it Play Store. When your Android Market changes to Play Store, you will get the following screen, where you simply click Next: 3. Click the Adober Reader icon Click on Download. This is how to install Adobe Reader: 1. Click on the Play Store icon Click on Accept and Download. 5 The program will be downloaded and installed on your tablet. 6. When the program finishes downloading and installing, click Open, to open the program.

7 7 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL 1 2 AND CALENDAR SETUP This is how to set up your tablet to access your work-mail and calendar. 1. From desktop no. 3, click on Click to add an SNS-account on the Social Hub icon. 2. Then lick on Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync 3 3. Enter your address (username@asb.dk) and password, then click on Manual Setup Enter domain, username and exchange-server address. Enter asb before \brugernavn in the field Domain: username. Enter mail.au.dk in the field for Exchange-server. Then click Next Accept the pop-up message by clicking OK and await your tablet verifies your username, password and server settings. This process may take a few minutes Remote Security Administration The server settings and politics at mail.au.dk require you to accept that the server controls certain security features and settings on your tablet. 8 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL 8 7 , Calendar and Security Settings: On the current screen, you can change various settings for synchronisation of , calendar and contacts. 7. It is recommended that the default settings are used, except SMS-synchronisation, which can be disabled by removing the check mark in Synchronise SMS. If you want your asb account to act as the default account for sending s, put a check mark in send as default from this account / send som standard fra denne konto. 8 Click Next. 8. On this screen, you have to activate the Device Manager. This setting helps protect the tablet s contents if stolen og dropped. Click on Activate Enter a name for the account. Note that depending on the size of your mailbox, it may take a few minutes to syncrhonice the first time To access your s, click on the icon Social Hub, found off the desktop no On desktop no. 2 you will see an overview of the newest s sent to default account. 12. On Desktop no. 4 there will be an overview of your upcoming appointments from your Outlook Calendar under Dagsorden/ To-Do.

9 9 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL E - MAIL FUNCTIONALITY This is how to use the basic functionality on your tablet: You can see an overview of your inbox on desktop 2, or access your inbox by clicking on Social Hub on desktop 3. Functions When You Send The on-screen keyboard is activated by clicking in a text field. When you are composing s, you have the following options: Contact List, Cc/Bcc, Put yourself in Cc, Prioritising, Encryption, Attach Files and Attach Pictures With your inbox open, in the top right corner, you have the following options: Search inbox, Update inbox, New mail, Other functions Edit Text: When you clik on Other functions, you are able to select the mails that the selected action will apply to. To edit text, just click and hold down on the text for 3 seconds. Then you will have the following options: To read a mail, simply click on it. For more options click and hold on a mail for 3 seconds.

10 SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB TUTORIAL 10 CALENDAR FUNCTIONALITY How to Use the Calendar You can access your calendar by clicking on the icon in the middle of the tool bar at the bottom of the screen. Navigation and Functions in your Calendar: You can change display mode - select if you want to see the whole month, week, day or even a list-view in the top let corner of the calendar. Besides this, you have the following options: A new menu will open, from which you can select Calendar. Create an Event: To create an event, you can either click on the date for 3 seconds (limited functionality), click the plus-sign in the top right corner - or click twice on a date, after which the following screen will appear: To quickly create a new event, click on the date of the event and hold down for 3 seconds. To see more options, click the arrow in the top left corner in the Calendar. The easiest way to create a holliday event is to click a date for 3 seconds.
