5 Helpful Cognos Tips 1. Log into Cognos Properly USE INTERNET EXPLORER (Set Compatibility View for Version 10 and 11). For eschool Cognos eschool Users - Wait until Log On/Log Off Link is set to LOG OFF

14 My Folders is a personal storage space for Cognos content giving users more control in defining their workspace. Users can organize this area with folders to more easily locate reports when needed.
15 My Folders ADDING FOLDERS TO MY FOLDERS 1. Open the location where the new folder will be stored. 2. Click on the New Folder Icon ( ).
16 My Folders ADDING FOLDERS TO MY FOLDERS 1. Open the location where the new folder will be stored. 2. Click on the New Folder Icon ( ). 3. Specify a Name for the new folder and click Finish. The Description and Screen tip are optional.
17 Users can organize this area with folders to more easily locate reports when needed. Users can be selective as to what reports are stored in My Folders.
18 ADDING REPORTS TO MY FOLDERS 1. Locate desired report(s) from Public Folder. 2. Check the boxes next to the report(s). 3. Click the copy option ( ) at the top of the window.

20 ADDING REPORTS TO MY FOLDERS 1. Locate desired report(s) from Public Folder. 2. Check the boxes next to the report(s). 3. Click the copy option ( ) at the top of the window. 4. Navigate to My Folders or a subfolder of My Folders. 5. Click the Paste icon ( ) at the top of the screen.
21 ADDING REPORTS TO MY FOLDERS 1. Locate desired report(s) from Public Folder. 2. Check the boxes next to the report(s). 3. Click the copy option ( ) at the top of the window. 4. Navigate to My Folders or a subfolder of My Folders. 5. Click the Paste icon ( ) at the top of the screen.
22 Users can organize this space with folders to better locate reports when needed. Users can store only desired reports in this area. Once in My Folders users can change properties of reports to fit their needs by clicking the Set Properties icon ( ).
23 REPORT PROPERTIES The report name and description can be changed under the General tab.
24 REPORT PROPERTIES Under the Report (or Query) tab the default format for the report can be set, PDF format options can be changed and Prompt values can be pre-defined if so desired. This tab will be named Query if the report is built in Query Studio. To change the default format of a report check the Override the default values checkbox and select the desired format. PDF Page orientation (Portrait or Landscape) and document password protection options can be defined by clicking Set under PDF options. For a report using the very same prompts each time it is run, the Prompt values can be defined and saved by unchecking Prompt for values and clicking Set under Prompt values.
25 The following slides give examples of Cognos reports that should be helpful when previewing the district data in preparation for cycle reporting. These reports are all available in the Public Folder.
