1 1.0 Functional Overview Instead of printing a report directly to your printer and having to wait while it processes and then prints, PeopleSoft SQR Reports can be generated to a file. This keeps your printer available for other uses until you are ready to print the actual report. The problem with printing a SQR Report from a file is that there is not an easy way to direct your report file to the printer. This will instruct you on how to capture a printer port using Novell iprint s iprint Client Settings tool, if you do not already have one captured. It will, also, instruct you on how to setup a printer as a SendTo option, which will allow you to Right- Click on a document and send it to a printer. 2.0 Capturing a Printer Port To launch the Novell iprint software, from your toolbar select Start > Programs > Novell iprint > iprint Client Services as shown below: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 1 of 12

2 Once you have selected iprint Client Services, the following window will appear: Select the icapture tab and the window will appear as below: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 2 of 12

3 Any printer(s) that you may have already captured will be displayed in this window with the name of the printer by the port it is assigned. To remove a captured printer, singleclick the port it is assigned and press the End Capture button. This will remove the printer assignment. If needed, the port is available to be assigned to a different printer. Also, see section 2.1 Troubleshooting for errors that may require you to recapture a printer port even though it appears to be captured. To assign a printer to a specific port, please single-click one of the LPTx ports that does not have a printer assigned. This will highlight that port and row. Press the Select Printer button and a list of available iprint printers will be displayed as shown below: Select the printer you want to assign and press OK. The following window should appear to let you know if the Capture was successful or not. F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 3 of 12

4 Press OK and the icapture window should look like the window below: You should be able to see the printer you requested assigned to the port you selected. 2.1 Troubleshooting The following errors can be resolved by capturing your printer port. The printer may appear to be captured but recapturing the port may resolve the error. If not, contact ITDSUPPORT. Errors: (SQR 4717) Cannot open the report output file LPT1 (13): Permission denied (SQR 5403) Error writing the output file. (22): Invalid argument F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 4 of 12

5 3.0 Setting up a SendTo option To setup the SendTo option, from your toolbar right-click on Start and select Explore as illustrated below: The following window will appear: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 5 of 12

6 Select the SendTo folder and your window should appear as shown below: Right-click in the SendTo window area, select New and ShortCut as illustrated below: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 6 of 12

7 The following window will appear: Press the Browse button and the following window will appear: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 7 of 12

8 Double-click the Local Disk (C:) and then double-click the WINNT folder, depending on your operating system this folder maybe named WINDOWS. You window should appear as below: Double-click the SYSTEM32 folder as shown below: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 8 of 12

9 Select PRINT.EXE and press the OK button as shown below: The following window will appear: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 9 of 12

10 Place your cursor to the right of the PRINT.EXE in the command box as shown below: Enter /d:lpt1 in the command box as shown below: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 10 of 12

11 Press the Next > button and the window should appear as follows: Enter Print to LPT1 and press the Finish button as shown below: F:\PeopleSoft\.doc Page 11 of 12

12 This will complete the setup of the SendTo option for printing to LPT1. LPT1 was used as the example but this process can be used to setup printing to any of your printer ports. 3.1 Using the SendTo option Using My Computer locate your SQR print file. Most of the time it will be your C:\temp\ folder unless you have specified otherwise. Right-click on the file that you would like to print, select SendTo and the Print to LPT1 as illustrated below: This will print your report at the printer you have captured.
