2 This document explains how to install all Thrive 11 workstations, from a license server to RIP/Print workstations. Each computer can have one or all workstations installed. For the purpose of this document, each workstation installation will be discussed individually. It is assumed that each computer meets the requirements to run Thrive 11. Installation - Stand Alone License Server Thrive uses a network key. This allows the key to be on one computer and broadcast the license to other computers on the network. The key can be housed on a computer with no Thrive Figure1: Key installation components installed. This adds the benefit of keeping the key secure from theft or accidental breaks. Only the hardware key drivers are needed to broadcast the license. When the Thrive installation starts, the key drivers will be installed first. After the key driver installation is complete the remaining Thrive installation can be canceled. The key light will turn on and the license is broadcasted. All computers that will have Thrive workstations installed must be able to see the license server. Installation - RIP/Print Workstation The heart of the Thrive software is the RIP/Print Workstation. This can be configured as a ripping and printing, or a print only workstation. Both uses will be explained. Figure 2: Thrive 11 main installation window RIP- Queue launches and the printer will need to be configured. How the printers are configured depends on what role RIP-Queue will take. Under Thrive Components select RIP/Print Workstation and click Install. After the workstation installation is complete the Printer Install window opens. Select the printers that the workstation will manage and click Install. Printers can be installed at the same time as the workstations. This can be done by dragging the PrnInst file into the Printers window on the right. In Windows 8 the dragand-drop option does not work. To install the printers in Windows 8, right-click on the Printers window and choose Browse. Select the PrnInst and click Open. When printers are installed in the main installation window, the Printer Install window will be skipped. For RIP/Print Workstations that will print direct to the printers, configure each printer as it is connected to the computer. Setting up a printer as print forwarding will pass the data over to computers acting as print only workstations. The print only workstation needs to be installed first in order to configure the printers on the Figure 3: Configuring Print Forwarding

3 print forwarding workstation. Select Print Forwarding and click Configure. A window appears listing all broadcasted printers from other RIP-Queue stations. Each printer lists the computer it resides on. Select the correct printer and click OK. Running as a RIP/Print Workstation By default the RIP/Print Workstation will use the max number of RIPs allowed. The max value is determined by the permissions on the hardware key and number of processor cores on the system. The value will be set to the lower of the two variables. For example, the hardware key has permissions for 8 active RIPs, but the CPU has only 4 cores. The maximum number of RIPs enabled would be set to 4. The maximum values can be lowered if needed. Select the File menu and click on General Settings. Change the value for, Number of RIPs, to a new value, then click OK. It is important to remember each active RIP takes a permission from the key while RIP-Queue is running. If there are insufficient permissions the Console will list an error. If there are no RIP permissions available RIP- Queue will remain shut down until RIP permissions are released elsewhere. Figure 4: Configuring Number of RIPs The printers installed on a print forwarding setup will not use printer key permissions. Running as a Print Workstation The installation does not distinguish what role the RIP/Print Workstation will use. It will automatically use the max number of RIPs allowed. If the workstation will be a print only workstation, the Number of RIPs needs to be set to 0. Printers should be configured based on the connection method to the print workstation. Installation - Job Editor Workstation A Job Editor Workstation allows for quick modifications to jobs before sending them to a RIP/Print Workstation. Check the box for Job Editor Workstation in the installation window and click Install. Printers are not installed on a Job Editor Workstation. They will be added in Job Editor. Launch Job Editor. Select the File menu and choose Printer Manager. When it first starts there are Figure 5: Job Editor Workstation installation. No printers needed. no printers. Click Add. A list of broadcasted printers will show. Select the printer and click Add. Repeat this for each printer the Job Editor Workstation will use. Figure 6: Adding a printer to a Job Editor workstation RIP/Print Workstations must be installed first before printers can be added to a Job Editor Workstation.

4 Installation - Color Management Workstation (Media Manager) The Color Management Workstation will install the Media Manager application. Select Color Management Workstation and RIP/Print Workstation. When a Color Management Workstation is installed the RIP-Queue workstation will also install. Selecting the RIP/Print Workstation will add the shortcut for RIP-Queue. Click Install. The Printer Install window will follow if the printers were not installed in the previous step. Click Browse and choose the printers to be installed. After installation RIP-Queue will launch and the printers will be configured. The Color Management Workstation must have direct communication to the printers. Print Forwarding from this workstation will not work. After configuring the printers go to File and select General Settings. Change the value for Number of Rips to 1 and click OK. This will prevent too many RIP permissions from being taken for the Color Management Workstation. The first launch of Media Manager will require setting up a spectrophotometer device. Choose the device that will be used and follow the the steps to configure the device. Click Close when finished. All print jobs from Media Manager will go into the local RIP-Queue by default. This can be changed within Media Manager. Go to the File menu and click Preferences. Change the option Print Method from RIP- Queue to Direct. This option will send the jobs from Media Manager to the printers without the use of RIP- Queue. Install - Layout Workstation Figure 7: Media Manager Preferences Layout Workstation will install Layout Tool and RIP-Queue. Like all the other installations the Printer Install window will appear. Select the appropriate printers to install. Figure 8: Layout Tool Preferencesv desired value and click OK. RIP-Queue will start and the printers will need to be configured. After the printers have been configured, go to the File menu and select General Settings. Like the Color Management Workstation installation, RIP-Queue, in the Layout Workstation, will use the max number of RIPs allowed by the key and CPU cores. Change Number of Rips to the By default Layout Tool will send jobs to RIP-Queue. Change this by going to Preferences. In Preferences window choose Image Options. Change Print Method from RIP-Queue to Direct. Click Close when finished. Install - Cut Workstation The Cut Workstation installs CUT-Server. Deselect all other workstations and click Install. Click Finish when the installation has completed. Launch CUT-Server. A prompt will appear asking to add a cutter. Select the needed Figure 9: Add a Cutter

5 cutter and click OK. The cutter now needs to be configured. Click Manage Cutters. Click on the cutter and then Configure. Select the communication port and then select Setup. The options will vary based on the cutter and port selected. If the Cut Worsktation is not on the same computer as the RIP/Print Workstation, additional steps will need to be done to bring cut jobs over to the Cut Workstation. Click on Preferences at the top. Select Jobs from the left side. Click on the Add button at the bottom. The cutter folder on the RIP/Print Workstation needs to be selected. Browse across to the RIP/Print Workstation PC. Select the share folder Thrive11Cutter and click Open. Multiple hot folders can be set for each RIP/Print Workstation that will generate cut files. Simply repeat the process above for each workstation. Figure 10: Adding a hot folder in CUT-Server Troubleshooting During installation some problems may appear. Below is a list of common issues that may be encountered. Error Failed to initialize the USB hardware key Hardware Key Error! Error: Insufficient permissions: All licenses are currently in use. This configuration requested Y rip permissions. There are only X available. All licenses are in use. Current printer configuration requires Y active printers. There are only X licenses available. Resolution Verify the computer can see the license computer. Verify the key drivers are installed on the license system. Browse to the installation files and go to the Setup folder. Run Setup.exe. Lower the allowed Number of RIPs on the other opened RIP-Queue stations. Close the other RIP-Queue stations to release the permissions. Make sure the RIP permissions are shared properly across all RIP/Print Workstations. Purchase additional active RIPs. Close other RIP-Queue workstations. Make sure the printer permissions are shared correctly across all RIP/Print Workstations. Purchase additional active printers.
