1 Part 1 - Getting Started 1. Install System Area Manager Dowload link: System Area Manager should be installed on one system. Upon installing you will be able to add System Clients across the network to the System Area Manager to centrally manage them. To install System Area Manager, download and unzip the file above, double click the executable and follow onscreen instructions. Once installed browse to the system now running System Area Manager by using the host name of the server ( or IP address ( is the default port number. Log in using your windows username/password/domain.

2 2. Add System to System Area Manager Add the system you just installed System Area Manager on so you can manage the system. To do this click on the top right drop down menu choose Add Managed Systems. Enter IP address of system and press Apply This now adds the system to the System Area Manager so you have full access to it. Now refresh your browser and you will see the computer in the management tree and the dashboard reporting the computer and health state.

3 3. Managing the System To access the system, click on it within the management tree, this expands to show 7 sections. Click on the section and the appropriate information is presented in the main browser window. System Alert Matrix Provides access to the thresholds, sample and reset periods, and notification options for all of the monitored hardware and software sensors within the system Remote Management Provides access to the remote functions, Shutdown, Restart, Wake on LAN and Remote Console which provides the administrator full access to the remote systems keyboard, mouse and screen. IPMI Provides access to IPMI Event log data while system is running, also provides IPMI Over LAN Power Management and Event Log access out of band (system may be powered off). System Provides system board, memory, CPU, slot, display, port information and status of the CPU and Memory utilization being monitored, in addition memory error information is displayed. Hardware Provides sensor information and current status on physical sensors being monitored within the system. Network Provides network adapter configuration information and performance for all configured adapters within the system. Storage Provides physical storage device, storage controller, logical device information and health status for the storage devices and managed RAID controllers. Software Provides information on OS services, processes, and installed applications. Also provides remote and process management.

4 4. Add Additional Systems to System Area Manager To manage other (Windows, MAC s, Linux and ESXi) computers on the network, install the System Client on them using the link below. Download link: Release.zip After installing the System Client, repeat step 2 and add the systems into the System Area Manager. This time you can type in an IP Address Range to add the systems.

5 Part 2 Utilizing DASH Technology The following explains how to setup and use DASH out-of-band management functions on the DASH enabled ASUS B85M-E motherboard. These steps should be taken after all System Clients are installed, configured and reporting into a System Area Manager. System BIOS Settings Enter BIOS Setup (Del or F2) Load Optimized Defaults Enable the following options: 1. Advanced Onboard Devices Configuration Realtek LAN Controller Enabled 2. Advanced MCTP Configuration MCTP Support Enabled 3. Advanced MCTP Configuration PLDM for SMBIOS Enabled 4. Advanced MCTP Configuration PLDM for BIOS Control Enabled 5. Advanced MCTP Configuration PLDM for Platform Enabled 6. Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection COM0 - Console Redirection Enabled 7. Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection COM0 - Console Redirection Settings Terminal Type VT Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection COM1 - Console Redirection Enabled 9. Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection COM1 - Console Redirection Settings Terminal Type VT Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection COM2 - Console Redirection Enabled 11. Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection COM2 - Console Redirection Settings Terminal Type VT Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection EMS - Console Redirection Enabled 13. Advanced Serial Port Console Redirection EMS - Console Redirection Settings Terminal Type VT Advanced Network Stack Configuration Network Stack - Enabled Save and Reboot the System. As the system boots press Shift and F10 to enter the DASH setup. If you do not see this enter BIOS Setup and choose Boot Override - Real Manage. This will bring up the RealManage boot sequence so you can press Shift and F10. Default login for DASH: Username = Administrator Password = Realtek Once in, configure the DASH settings.

7 Accessing DASH in System Area Manager 1. Log into System Area Manager 2. Click on the ASUS-PC system on the tree. This will now expand to show 7 icons. Click on the second icon Remote Management. 3. Click on the DASH tab and then enter the IP Address, Username and Password configured for DASH. Press the Apply button to save the data. The IP address box is automatically populated with the OS IP Address so if using DHCP for the Operating system and DASH do not edit the IP address field. If you edit the IP address field it will be treated as a static IP address and will not change even if the OS IP address changes.

8 DASH Remote Management Now that you have DASH configured in the System Area Manager you can perform direct power controls to the DASH system. 1. Click on the DASH Remote Management tab 2. Click on the Establish DASH Connection Button 3. It will now show you the current Power Status of the system 4. Choose the power option you wish to perform by either clicking the Power Off button (If the system is on or choosing the Power On radio button (If the system is off) or Power Reset radio button (If the system is powered on). Then press the Send Command Button. It will show you the result of your choice at the bottom of the screen.

9 5. Once you have performed your function you must disconnect the DASH sesion. To do this click on the DASH Configuration tab and then click on the Disconnect Session button. 6. Once disconnected the status will be updated to Not Connected.

10 DASH Serial Over LAN With SyAM Software and the DASH configured ASUS system you can access the system as it boots up, enabling you to access the BIOS to make BIOS changes, etc. Serial Over LAN is only available as the system powers on. 1. Click on DASH Power Management; establish connection. 2. Either click the Power On radio button (if the system status is Off) or the Power Reset radio button (if the system status is On). Also, check off the Launch SOL check box. Now click the Send Command button.

11 3. This will bring up the Serial Over LAN console in your web browser. Click on the console and press F2 or the DEL key to enter BIOS when the message comes up. Should you need to reboot the system you can press the Power reset button. 4. You can also boot up the system with Serial Over LAN and go directly into BIOS.

12 DASH USB Redirection With SyAM Software and the DASH configured ASUS system you can redirect media from the Area Manger system to the client system by using the USB Redirect feature in the DASH Remote Management tab. USB Redirection is available as the system powers on, this allows you to boot from an IMG bootable image or a bootable ISO image. In addition the USB redirection can be used when the system is in the OS and the image can be accessed as if the image was physically connected to the system. 1. Click on DASH Remote Management; establish connection. 2. Check off the enable USB Redirect checkbox. 3. Remember to disconnect when finished to remove the USB redirection
