1 WHITE PAPER ONYX THRIVE Thrive Production Manager

2 Every package of Thrive comes with a service called, Production Manager. Production Manager is an http service that provides the ability to montior, submit and edit jobs in the RIP-Queue Workstation. Production Manager can be accessed through any computer, or other devices connnected to the network, such as a tablet or phone. Enabling Production Manager Production Manager can be enabled during the Thrive installation or in RIP-Queue. It is enabled in the installation by default. Within RIP-Queue, select the File menu and choose General Settings. In the General Settings window there is an option, Enable Production Manager. Click on the box and then OK. Starting Production Manager Figure 1: Enable Production Manager In order to use Production Manager, launch any web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. In the address bar type in the IP address of the RIP-Queue computer, then end it with a colon and port number listed in General Settings. The IP address is listed in RIP-Queue s Console when the server starts. Using The Jobs Tab - Toolbar In Production Manager there are two tabs, Jobs and Devices. Click on the Jobs tab Figure 2: Production Manager Jobs Tab In the Jobs tab there are two sections that immediately display. They are Global Actions, and viewing options. Global Actions provides four options that can be performed on one or more jobs. Global Actions will only be Figure 3: Production Manager Toolbar Activate - Any selected jobs that are located in the buffered section of RIP-Queue, will be moved to the ready to print section. Archive - Does the opposite of Activate. This moves active jobs to the buffered section, marking them as Archived. Hold - Toggles the hold attribute on or off for the selected active jobs. Delete - Deletes selected jobs. This works for jobs in the ready to print and buffered sections.

3 applied to jobs that have a check mark placed next to them in the Jobs section below. Next to Global Actions is View Jobs. This toggles on what jobs will be shown. By default Production Manager only shows the Active jobs, or jobs in the ready to print section in RIP-Queue. Enabling Inactive will list all jobs in the buffered section. Figure 4: View Jobs Filter To the right of View Jobs is Filter. This option gives more flexibility to show jobs with more specific attributes. This option allows jobs to be filtered based on their status. If the Inactive option under View Jobs is enabled, the Filter section shows more options. Within the Filter section it can be specified to show jobs that are On Hold, Ripping, Printing, Waiting for Media, Waiting to Print, Rip Failure, etc. Any job status seen in RIP-Queue can be filtered. Whatever is enabled, jobs with that status, will be displayed. The final section is Show Jobs For. This option simply lists jobs based on what printer is listed in the field below. By default Production Manager sets it to a value, All Printers. Next to it is a search option. Simply type part or all of the name of a job and it will list it, if found under the currently chosen printer. Using The Jobs Tab - Jobs Below the toolbar is the section, Jobs. This section shows all jobs based on the filtering options above. It not only lists jobs but allows the end user to modify to view indepth options that the job contains. The viewing interface is very simple. There are options to choose how many jobs are listed per page, as well, as well easy to use page navigation. Figure 5: Single Job Tab To the right of the job name there is the Size, Printer and then farther to the right, there is Copies, Edit, and Status. Its section expands showing media and mode used. To the far right of this expanded window are options to Hold, Archive and Delete. Unlike Global Actions, these options will only affect that job, and no others. Clicking on the larger thumbnail, in the expanded region, will bring up a Preview window. This shows a slightly larger preview of the job. Clicking the Edit button brings up a new window where jobs can be modified. Once the desired changes have been made, click OK, the job will go to a ripping state. This is the same for jobs in the buffered section. Using The Devices Tab Go Online - This takes the printer in an Offline status and change it back to Online. Go Offline - This toggles the printer in an Online status and changes it back to Offline. Print Now- This sends a print command to RIP-Queue, starting the actual printing process.

4 The Devices tab has a similar look to the Jobs tab. This tab controls settings for the printers on the RIP-Queue station. Like the Jobs tab it has two sections, the toolbar, and the Devices list. The Global Actions now reflect options that can be applied to one or more printers. Figure 6: Filter in Devices In addition to the Global Actions, there is a Filter section. The list of printers can filtered based on the printer status. This includes seeing which printers are Idle, Printing, Nesting or Offline. The final section in the toolbar is Filter Your Results. Here a list of printers can sorted based on name, or medias installed. If the need is to find a printer with an adhesive vinyl profile, simply start by typing vinyl into the search field and press the Enter key. The printer list will update showing you printers that have profiles with that name. The Devices list works like the Jobs list under the Jobs tab. In this location the printer information seen in RIP-Queue is displayed. The only options that can be modified are media and pagesize loaded. Jobs can be sent to the printer from this list as well. The button Print Now is located to the left of the Edit button. Submitting a New Job New jobs can be submitted using Production Manager. On the far right of the Production Manager interface is the button, Submit New Job. The button opens up a new window where a job is chosen and configured before it is sent into the Thrive RIP-Queue Workstation. Figure 7: Printer Information Row Select the job to load. Next choose the printer, Quick Set, rotation, and marks. To the right is the optional Job Ticket fields. Figure 8: Submitting a new job When the job is configured, click Submit to send it to RIP-Queue. Edit an Existing Job After a job has finished ripping it can be modified from Production Manager. To the right of the job is a pencil icon. Click this to edit the job. A window appears showing the image preview and the Figure 9: Edit a job in Production Manager

5 options that can be modified. This includes media profile, print mode, size, rotation and marks. This ability is useful when the job is the wrong size, using the wrong media profile or needs to be rotated. In addition to altering the job, Marks and Job Ticket information can also be added. Make the changes needed to the job and click OK. Common Issues There are some common issues with Production Manager. This section lists the most common problems. Problem: Production Manager says Loading. Please wait... and just hangs there. Solution: Close and relaunch RIP-Queue. This will restart the Production Manager service and the web browser will show all jobs and devices correctly now. Problem: Production Manager is slow and changes made there don t seem to be applied to RIP-Queue. Solution: Slow or non-repsonsive Production Manager can be caused by an overtax system running RIP-Queue. If the hard drives and CPU power is being maxed out, this will reduce the response of both Production Manager and RIP-Queue. Changes will be applied they just will take some time until CPU and hard drive resources can be used for this. The only solution is to wait. Increasing the systems hardware will also reduce the problem. Problem: An page load error appears in Internet Explorer for Windows 8. Solution: This is an issue with Window 8 s Internet Explorer. It has problems loading any kind of local http service. The solutions are to install a new web browser.
