1 NetDoc Version 2.2 Release Notes November, 2011 Enhancements Improved User Interface Visual Connector Provides a visual interpretation of components. Uses drag-and-drop functionality to easily connect ports between assets, horizontal links, and termination hardware. Cross-connects patch panels to switches and horizontal links. Significantly reduces the time it takes to connect links. Visual Connector - Main Screen Lets you clear the screen with one click using the Clear button. Provides a docked Port Legend. 3 NetDoc Import Tool NetDoc Import Tool Template Support: Added support for Excel The Import Tool now supports Excel 2003, 2007 and NetDoc Import Tool LABELMARK v5 Addin: The link from the Import Tool to LM5 now connects and lets you import data. Old NetDoc Import Tool (Excel file): When upgrading from version 2.0 to version 2.2, the old Excel interface file (NetDoc Import Tool) is now saved so you can copy/paste any notes or personal information into the new (installed) file. The old file is located at: Windows 7, Vista & Server 2008 = [System Drive (e.g., c:)\programdata\brady\netdoc Import Tool\Old Templates. Windows XP, 2003 = [System Drive (e.g., C:)]\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Brady\NetDoc Import Tool\OldTemplates Minimum System Requirements: - Windows XP Home (SP3) - Windows Vista (SP1) - Windows 7 (SP1) - Windows 2003 Server (SP2) - Windows 2008 Server (SP2) - Microsoft.Net 3.5 SP1 Framework (if user does not meet requirements, the installer downloads and installs the framework automatically) - Microsoft Excel 2003, 2007, or 2010 (can be more than one, but at least one is needed) Import Tool New Features/Enhancements Note: NEVER change the column headers or move the column headers to another row. Changing or moving columns and/or column headers will affect the functionality of the Import Tool. NetDoc Excel Interface toolbar: Users can access to Select a Database, Import data into NetDoc, Check Data in NetDoc, and view the NetDoc MS Excel Import tool version. NetDoc Import Tool provides users with the following: - Comments specific to a cell, when data is invalid. - Sends more then one comment per row that provides more actionable information to help the user correct the identified errors. - Provides additional comments for column headers that need further explanation. - Includes navigational links from the Welcome sheet to every sheet in the tool. - Includes navigational links from every sheet back to the Welcome sheet. - A Glossary sheet describing objects in the applications. - User selection of Space Type and TR Type columns for Assets, Termination Hardware, - Backbone Cables, Horizontal Links, and Users - Users cannot re-arrange tabs in the Import Tool. Assets Tab: Port F & Port R after Asset Type, IP Address directly after Ports F & R, Rack added as an optional column, changes to Termination Hardware Tab, August

4 Backbone Cables Tab: Racks available as an optional column for both Source and Destination. Backbone Pairs Tab: Moved Connection Type columns directly after Pair. Moved combo boxes to headers. Backbone Cross Connects Tab: Created Drop Down box for Connection Types Users Tab: Added Drop Down boxes for Admin, Read-only, and Force Change. Infrastructure Tree: Can now select the Infrastructure tree connected to the NetDoc database for populating cells in Excel: - Double-click the infrastructure to import its parents to the Excel spreadsheet at the next available line. - Right-click the infrastructure to import its parents to the Excel spreadsheet at the highlighted/selected cell. Custom Installer: - Users can use the custom Installer for the NetDoc Import Tool - Installs Import Tool Excel 2003, Excel 2007 or Excel 2010 versions to end user s PC, based on the installed version of MS Office. If more than one version is installed, the Import Tool installs all versions. 4 August, 2011

5 Bug Fixes Duplicate records not all modified: All duplicate records are now updated whenever one duplicate is modified. Trace shows devices in wrong order: Trace now shows devices in the correct order. Missing NetDoc navigation tree when using Internet Explorer 8.0: The navigation tree now displays when using IE 8.0. When using a wizard, cannot save unless notes are added: You can now save your entries without adding notes. Backbone traces show multiple backbones connected: Backbone connections now display correctly. Known Bugs and Issues Orphaned assets in Backbone Connections: Asset port shows a connection but the asset ID is empty. Workaround is to select an asset ID and reconnect the port. Deleting Pathways with associated Backbone Cables: Users can delete pathways that have associated backbone cables. However, the user is not prompted with a warning message indicating that the pathway has an associated backbone cable. Pathway Trace: When you trace the pathway, Outdoor spaces and Telecommunication spaces are shown as work area graphics in the trace. Runtime Error: If the application stays idle for an extended period of time, the NetDoc application will indicate a Runtime error. Tube Trace shown in Reverse: When viewing a Tube trace, the trace shows from right to left (i.e., source is shown in the right-most corner and destination is shown in the left-most corner). All other traces are shown in the reverse (i.e., destination shown in right-most corner, source shown in left-most corner). Pathway Print Details: Do not show the cables associated with that pathway. Port Renaming in Trace: In Termination Hardware, renaming the port and clicking the trace button doesn't show the renamed port name it shows only the default name. Import Tool Known Bugs and Issues NetDoc Import Tool Excel 2003/2007/2010: The user can move the NetDoc Application header as well as the sheet headers. Net Framework 3.5 SP1: When prompted during installation to restart the PC now or later, if the user selects Now, the PC will re-start but the installation will not startup on its own. After restart re-run the setup.exe. Spreadsheet Data Layout: The Import Tool will only check and import data from row six to the first blank row. Editing Data: The Import Tool will not accept any changes if a cell is still selected when Check or Import data is selected. If a cell is still selected, the Import Tool will process only the data that existed prior to editing the cell. To import the edited data, de-select the cell before selecting Check or Import data. 6 Import Limitations: Users can only check and import 3000 rows at a time. To import a spreadsheet with more than 3000 rows: 1. Insert a blank row before the 3000th row. 2. Import/check the data. Note: NetDoc stops checking/importing at a blank row, so it will only import/check data up to the blank row you inserted. 3. Cut and paste the first set of rows at the very end of all rows in the spreadsheet. 4. Delete all of the blank rows at the top of the spreadsheet. 5. Repeat this procedure until all rows are imported/checked. 6 August, 2011
