1 LGSConnect application Owner s manual revision 1.0 November 2015

2 2 / 16 LGSConnect is a Windows application designed to exchange data between PC and Logstream FR-1 GNSS flight recorder. Main menu File Connect FR Application will try to connect with FR using selected COM port and baudrate. FR default baudrate is set to bps. This also can be done using button: Disconnect Disconnect FR. This also can be done using button: Validate IGC File Use to check validity of digital signature of IGC file. Exit Exit the program.

3 3 / 16 Edit Waypoints Use to manage waypoints database e.g. import, create, edit, delete. Tasks Use to manage tasks database e.g. create, edit, delete. Show config directory Show Windows folder where FR configuration files are stored : tasks A/B definitions and FR settings ( fix interval, baud rates etc ) Toolbar Download data from FR ( flights list, settings, declarations ) Upload data to FR (settings, declarations) Select proper COM port Select connection baud rate ( bps is default ) Start connection with FR Disconnect Export settings and declarations to FR CONFIG drive or USB Pen Drive

4 4 / 16 Connection with FR Connect FR to PC using Logstream proprietary RS232 cable or establish Bluetooth connection between PC and FR. Choose proper COM port and connection speed. Select Connect FR menu item or Connect button in toolbar. When connection starts, program show FR status ( FR type, serial number, hardware and software version, GPS module type, pressure sensor type, number of IGC files stored in FR, free space on FR memory and FR security status )

5 5 / 16 Downloading IGC files Click on Flights item in main list Wait a moment. Program receive list of stored flights. List contain, IGC file name, size of IGC file, flight date, pilot name, time of takeoff and landing, flight duration, number of waypoints and flight distance. Select flight you want to download and press Download button. Program shows bar indicating download progress. When downloading finishes press Show IGC files folder button. Windows folder with downloaded IGC files is opened.

6 6 / 16 If flight list is incomplete or require refreshing press Download button on toolbar. FR settings Select Settings item in main list. Start / stop recording: Enter speed in Kmh or altitude change in meter per second which cause start recording. Time in seconds means how long these conditions should meet to start recording ( default is 5 seconds ). Sampling rate: Normal fix interval during normal flight ( value between 1-30 secs ) Near WPT fix interval near task waypoint observation zone (1-5 secs ) Beeps: Entering waypoint observation zone - check if FR should beeps when entering waypoint observation zone Start recording check if FR beeps when recording starts NMEA output check if FR should sends NMEA stream over RS232 cable ( 1 DB9 plug ). FR always sends GPS NMEA stream over second DB9 plug.

7 7 / 16 Setting up flight declarations Select Task A item on main list. Enter declaration data. Pilot name, glider type, task name etc. Icon description Edit selected waypoint ( choose one from waypoints list ) Add new waypoint. Waypoint is added after currently selected Delete selected waypoints Edit waypoint observation zone Select whole task from list Copy declaration header from Task A/B Clear header / task

8 8 / 16 Common buttons Edit selected item Add new item Delete selected item Waypoints list Select menu Edit->Waypoints Press Import button to load waypoints from *.CUP file. Press Delete all button to remove all waypoints from database. Important!!! Deleting waypoints cause deleting all earlier defined tasks. Press Add new button to add new waypoint. Press Edit button or double click on the list to edit waypoints Waypoint editor

9 Enter waypoint name and geographic coordinates. Latitude format: DDMM.mmmmN/S Longitude format: DDDMM.mmmmE/W where DD degrees, MM minutes, mmmm decimal minutes When press Show in Google Maps button Web Browser will open and show waypoint in Google Maps. Task list Select menu Edit->Tasks 9 / 16 Using this window user can create, edit or delete tasks. Press Edit button to edit selected task. Task editor window is opened. Task editor

10 10 / 16 Double click on selected waypoint or press Edit button to choose waypoint from list. When select Takeoff waypoint application automaticly set this waypoint to Start, Finish and Landing. After that Start, Finish and Landing waypoints can be changed manually. Press Add button to add next waypoint. Waypoint is added as next to currently selected. Press Delete button to remove selected waypoint. There can be maximum 12 waypoints in task ( without Takeoff, Start, Finish and Landing points ). Press Observation zone button or double click on OZ column in selected waypoint to edit observation zone parameters. Observation zone editor Observation zone is defined as sum of areas defined using two radius and two angle parameters. Radius 1,2 - radius of observation zone in meters Angle 1,2 - half angle of observation zone in degrees e.g half circle circle Line only observation zone defined as line. Radius1 parameter define half of line length in meters. Max. alt maximum altitude of observation zone in meters

11 11 / 16 Direction this value determines the location of observation zone bisector i.e. direction passes through the center of observation zone. Fixed value angle Symetrical half angle between previous and next leg of task. Usually used to middle task points. To next point direction to next task point e.g. start observation zone with line. To previous point direction to previous task point e.g. finish observation zone with line To start point direction to start task point

12 12 / 16 Utilities Reset to factory defaults: resets FR to factory defaults. Important!!! All configuration settings and recorded IGC files will lost. Use to reset FR or clear space for new IGC files. Check new app version at: Any questions send to: office@logstream.eu

13 13 / 16 APPENDIX A LGS Connect application. Connection with FR using Bluetooth and Windows 8.1 If your PC have built in Bluetooth module turn it ON and skip point 1-3 1) Insert Bluetooth stick to any of USB port of PC. 2) At the first use Windows is trying to install drivers. 3) After that click on small triangle icon in right down corner of Windows desktop. 4) If BT stick is properly installed there is blue icon. 5) Power up FR-1. 6) Double click on BT icon and select Bluetooth. 7) Windows start searching for available Bluetooth devices and should find LGS-FR1-nnn device.

14 14 / 16 8) Click on this device and choose Pair. 9) Enter passcode 1234 and press next. 10)After that device should have Connected status.

15 15 / 16 11)Go back to Windows desktop. Click on small triangle icon at right down corner and next click right mouse button on Bluetooth blue icon. 12)From menu select Open settings. 13)Check which port number is Outgoing COM5 in our example

16 16 / 16 14)Run LGSConnect application 15)Select proper COM port number ( COM5 in our example ) and press blue Connect button When app connects to FR, FR status will be showed in main window
