9 Section 1. FS-Navigator overview FS-Navigator software was created to accomplish with GAC requirements for aero rally competitions. On the other hand, FS-Navigator interacts with all the Icaro Systems devices like FS-Logger. Basically, FS-Navigator can graphically represent geographical data from a wide variety of sources, like logger devices, geographical files, gps devices, etc This is the typical appearance of software just after it s installed on the computer. 10 Section 1.1. Installing process The installing process allows the user to select the type of installation. 3 different modules can be installed individually: Table 1. Installation wizard Figure 3. Types of installation After the wizard installation was finished, a new icon in your desktop will be available to start the application. 11 Section 2. Main window overview This section describes the basics of FS-Navigator. TOOLBAR OBJECT INSPECTOR VIEW AREA STATUS BAR Figure 5. Main window overview Figure 6. Main Toolbar Button description: Import allows the user to load all different objects like tracks and courses. Zoom In makes one step zoom in. Zoom Out makes one step zoom out. Move Mode. This is the only available mode in version 1.2 of FS-Navigator. Allow the user to move the view area just doing drag and drop operations. Meter shows/hides the meter object. Calculator shows/hides the calculator window. Altitude shows/hides the altitude window. Speed shows/hides the speed window. Page 11 of 46
12 Section 2.1. Object inspector view Object inspector shows all the loaded and enabled objects running in FS- Navigator because the software enable the possibility to load multiple instances of different objects. All objects loaded in FS-Navigator are showed in object inspector with his correspondent image. Objects like tracks, courses, calibrated images, maps or waypoint files are examples of objects that can be loaded into the software. All different objects are described in next table: Table 2. 13 Section Multi object concept The user should understand that FS-Navigator is multi object software capable of show multiple objects in the different views. All objects loaded have his own properties, options and view styles offering the possibility to change some properties like colour, mode, or other object properties. Example: 3 objects from aero rally competition: 1 course object 2 logger objects This is the result in FS-Navigator. Course object Logger objects All objects are represented in the view area. Figure 8. Multi object example Section Specific object options Every object has a set of particular options and a set of common options. This section will explain all common options and the way to found it. Specific options will be explained for every object in his own section. Every object can have a typical popup menu just clicking with right button over the object or over the object icon in OBJECT INSPECTOR VIEW. The amount of options will depend on the object s type. Not all objects has popup menu. Some special objects are restricted and cannot be modified by the user. Figure 9. Logger object options Page 13 of 46

Shows / Hides the object. The object can be modified by the user. Allows the user to save the object. Not all objects have the SAVE feature. Allows the user to delete the object. Same option like LOCATE but the view area keep the zoom factors. Double click over an object, will produce the same results that clicking over the default menu option of the object. Default menu option Section 2.2. Status bar view Status bar shows to the user the actual status of FS-Navigator software. Status bar Mouse geographical coordinates: the mouse coordinates are updated every time the mouse is moved over the view area. Meter total length: Only available when enabling meter option. Actual map projection: projection used in view area. Map projection can be changed from the options window. Page 14 of 46
15 Section 2.3. View area Over the view area, the user can view, work, and modified all FS-Navigator objects. The kind of representation (map projection) used for the view area can be changed from the options window. Additional view areas are available for the user like altitude or speed windows. Not all objects can be represented in additional views. Specific object documentation will explain the possibilities of every one. Section Working with the view area This section describes how to work with the view area with keyboard and mouse devices. Section Moving capability View area has the capability to be moved easily with the mouse, just clicking in any view area and drag the mouse to the desired area. This movement will displace the view area in the same way the mouse is moved. Steps to move the view area: 1. Click over any clear view area. (You cannot click over any object, because will focus the object and the view area will not be moved) 2. Drag the mouse to the desired area 3. Drop the mouse to finish the movement. Section Zoom in and zoom out capability FS-Navigator has the capability to zoom in and zoom out with no restrictions. There are two different ways to zoom the view area. Figure 12. 16 Method 1 (Zoom buttons) The user can zoom in and zoom out the view area just clicking over the zoom buttons in the main toolbar. The view area will be zoomed over the centre like the picture. Method 2 (Mouse wheel) The user can zoom in and zoom out the view area just moving the mouse wheel over the desired area. The view area will be zoomed over the mouse to the desired area. Icaro systems recommend the second method for high precision zoom. Section Meter feature Meter feature is a special object designed to measure distances over the view area. Figure 14. Meter button Figure 15. Meter enabled When meter object is enabled clicking over the Meter button or pushing F6 key, a new green line appears over the view area. The user can move both green points over the meter to displace it over the view area. The distance will be displayed in the status bar only when Meter object is enabled. Figure 16. Main options FS-Navigator options allow the user to customize some different features of the software like representation features, start-up features, etc The option window is located under View Options menu (F4 Key) This section will describe every option: Figure 20. 18 General section: o Coordinates: Allows the user to change coordinates representation in degrees, minutes, seconds or decimal degrees. o Distance Units: Units allowed: Km, Miles, and Nautical Miles. o Speed Units: Units allowed: KNOTS or KM/H o Map projection: Allows the user to change the map projection from a wide variety of projections. Map projections Icaro Systems recommends Mercator projection for faster computers and LATITUDE/LONGITUDE projection for slower computers. o Show parallels: Allows the user to switch on/off parallels and meridians representation. o Show waypoints: Allows the user to switch on/off waypoints representation. o Sea colour: colour used to paint sea areas. o Land colour: colour used to paint land areas. Maps section: o Remember location: If remember location is enabled, FS-Navigator will locate the last map position when the software is restarted. o Use.map files: Allow the user to switch on/off map objects. By default, Use.map files is enabled. For slower computers, the user can switch off this option to get a better performance. o View country borders: Enabling this option, every country will display a border line. o Random country colour: Enabling this option, every country will be displayed with a random colour. o Excluded folders: This option allows the user to disable country folders. For slower computers, the user can disable non required countries. Start-up section: Start-up section allows the user to setup some initial options. o Full screen mode: If full screen mode is enabled, the software will start automatically in full screen mode. o Object inspector visible: If object inspector visible is enabled, the software will start automatically with object inspector visible. 19 o Toolbar visible: If Toolbar visible is enabled, the software will start automatically with the object inspector visible. o Image list: This option allows the user to auto load calibrated images when the application starts. FS-10 section: (Experimental options) o Serial port: serial interface to communicate with FS-10 device. DAFIF section: DAFIF features are explained over the Section 5. DAFIF View. Defaults button allows the user to restart all options to default values. Section 2.5. Altitude window Altitude window shows all allowed objects in altitude representation. Logger objects are an example of allowed objects. The objects are represented with the same colour in all view areas. And changing the object colour will affect all views. 20 WORKING WITH ALTITUDE WINDOW Resizing window: Altitude window is a stay on top window that can be resized by the user. Moving view area: The user cans move the view area just clicking it and dragging the mouse. Zooming view area: The user cans zoom the view area in the same way that moving the view area, but dragging with CONTROL key. Section 2.6. Speed window Speed window shows all allowed objects in speed representation. Logger objects are an example of allowed objects. The objects are represented with the same colour in all view areas. 21 Section 2.7. Calculator window Calculator window allow the user to convert some position and speed units. Decimal character depends on windows configuration. Speed units conversion: Speed conversion allows the user to convert with the 4 standard speed units. o KM/H o M/S o KNOTS o MILES/H Coordinates conversion: Figure 24. Calculator window Coordinates conversion allows the user to convert from degrees, minutes, seconds to decimal degrees and vice versa. Data can be copied and pasted throw the standard copy and paste keys. Calculator window can be showed/hided clicking over the calculator button in main toolbar, or pressing F6 key. Section 2.8. Miniature map window Miniature map window shows a world map representing the actual portion of map showed in main view area. Map portion depends on projection used to represent data in main view area. This window can be showed / hided from the View menu or F8 key. Portion of map showed in main view area. Figure 25. 22 Section 2.9. Search window Search window allows the user to search inside all FS-Navigator objects, like waypoints, airports, etc Figure 26. Search window Step to search: 1. Open search window from View menu or F3 key. 2. Tip text to search and press Enter. Search engine will search inside all objects. 3. Select the desired object from Search results and click on locate to see the object. 24 Section 3. Interface with different devices FS-Navigator software interacts with a wide variety of Icaro Systems products like FS-Logger. Under Device menu, the user can find all options needed to communicate with ours devices. Section 3.1. FS-Logger interface FS-Logger device interacts 100% with FS-Navigator software, downloading and configuring it throw FS-Logger wizard. Figure 29. FS-Logger wizard 1 FS-Navigator interacts with FS-Logger device by a standard RS-232 serial interface. The wizard will guide the user, to download, setup and delete the device. Figure 30. 25 FS-LOGGER WIZAR DESCRIPTION: 1. Connecting with FS-Logger Connect FS-Logger to the computer throw a serial cable (DB-9) and start the wizard that will guide the user to the rest of the process. FS-Logger wizard is located under Device FS- Logger Wizard. Figure 31. Serial port selection 2. Device status When FS-Logger is connected correctly, wizard will shows FS-Logger general status informing about battery, memory and internal configuration status. Figure 32. FS-Logger status 3. Downloading Users can select Transfer logged data or Clear and Setup memory. Download is an automatic process that will generate one track object for every session. After download process was finished, the user must to save every track object. 4. Clearing and Setup Clear and setup process will delete all recorded sessions and will setup the internal saving period. Page 25 of 46

Real time FS-Logger (Experimental) Real time option allows the user to get information from FS-Logger and be represented in real time creating a track object every second. At the moment, this option it s for debugging purpose, and we don t recommend use it. In the future, we will release a stable version of real time FS-Logger. Section 3.3. Logger Live! Feature This option allows play logger files in pseudo real time. The user can see the airplane moving over the recorded track at same speed that the original flight. Toolbar, the user can plays, and check the actual time and speed of the recorded data. Steps to play recorded tracks: 1. Enable Logger Live! Feature from View Logger Live menu. 28 Section 4. Importing data This section describes all relevant information about importing data into FS-Navigator software. Loading and importing features are into File menu or main toolbar or F2 key. Figure 38. Loading files Section 4.1. Opening multiple files According with FS-Navigator multi object feature, the user has the ability to load multiple files simultaneously. In other way, the user can open logger, course and waypoint files directly from explorer window, double clicking any of these files. Opening multiple files Figure 39. 29 Section 4.2. Track files Track (or logger) files stores information from logger devices like FS-Logger. To review supported formats, check Section 2.1. Object inspector view. Figure 40. Track object loaded Kind of data: Every track file stores position, altitude, time and speed information for each sample. Also, special information is stored into the file described below: Download date: date when the track was downloaded. Only available for files created from FS-Logger devices. Logged date: date when the track was started. Only available for files created from FS- Logger devices. With this features, the user knows exactly the time when the date was recorded Specific options: These are the specific options for track objects: Figure 41. Track options Assign: Assign option allows the user to assign the track file to a Course object. In competition sections will explain the purpose of this option. Filter: The track object is automatically filtered when is loaded to prevent corrupt data. Filter is used for debugging purpose. Properties (default option): Clicking over Properties option, will appear a properties window showing important information about the track object. Page 29 of 46
30 Figure 42. Track object properties Editable mode: Switching Editable option, track object will show one point for every recorded sample. Editable mode do not enable the possibility of modify position, altitude or time date of each sample, only modified the object representation. One point for each sample Figure 43. 31 Saving options: Track objects can be saved in different formats from the save option described below: Table 5. 32 Section 4.3. Course files According with GAC rules, course files store information about coordinates and goal size of each check point. To review supported formats, check Section 2.1. Object inspector view. The purpose of this kind of files is explained in Section 6. Competition features. Figure 45. Course object Kind of data: Course objects stores a check point list. For each check point, latitude, longitude, altitude and goal size is stored in. The user can modify goal size for all check points from the properties window. Figure 46. 33 Specific options: These are the specific options for course objects: Course Properties (default option): Clicking over course properties, properties window will appear showing relevant information about course object. View Results: Results window will appear when the user select view results option. Results window show relevant information about competition results that will be explained in Section 6. Competition features. Figure 47. Course options Editable mode: Switching to editable mode allows the user to modify the position of each check point in view area dragging check points with the mouse. 34 Section 4.4. Waypoint files Waypoint files stores information for at least one waypoint object. This kind of files is created from FS-Logger, pushing the waypoint button of the device. Waypoint object shows automatically short description about name, id and altitude. Figure 49. Waypoint description Specific options: These are the specific options for waypoint objects: Properties (default option): Properties option shows the waypoint properties window. Figure 50. 35 Section 4.5. Map files Map files are an old version of country border maps. FS-Navigator software continues working with.map files to get compatibility with early versions. Check Section 4.7. Calibrated images to get extended information about loading map files. Section 4.6. Probe files Probe files are under experimental purpose. To get detailed information about probe files, contact Icaro Systems team. Section 4.7. Calibrated images FS-Navigator software cans load image files with geographical calibration. Image files and his calibration are 100% compatible with Ozi Explorer calibrated images. Calibrated images has a calibration file associated. MAP files are standard Ozi Explorer calibration files, and SRFC are Icaro Systems calibration files. Specific options: These are the specific options for calibrated image objects: Properties (default option): This option shows the calibrated image properties window. Figure 52. 36 CLEAR AREAS Figure 54. Calibrated image Note 1: Clear areas don t contain calibrated data of the image. These areas were created after converting image s geographical coordinates to world s geographical coordinates. Note 2: For a correct visualization using calibrated images, map projection must be LATITUDE/LONGITUDE. In other projections, calibrated data increment position errors. Check options window in order to change map projections. Figure 55. Latitude/Longitude projection for calibrated images Note 3: Trying to load a non calibrated image, Map object will be created, but the image will be hided until calibration data will be added. Note 4: Important information about computer performance working with calibrated images: Using very big calibrated image, computer performance will be drastically reduced. Icaro Systems recommends a faster computer and enough RAM memory. Page 36 of 46
37 Section 4.8. Import customized airports FS-Navigator together with DAFIF database has the capability to show in view area, all airports and runways included in database, but not all actual airports from all countries are inside. For what, FS-Navigator has the possibility to update DAFIF database including customized airports and runways. ARPT files are updatable DAFIF database files containing information of airports and runways. This section describes the procedure to update DAFIF database. Steps to update DAFIF database. 1. Search for ARPT updatable file. 2. Open the file from File Import Airport files. Figure 56. Importing ARPT files 3. If DAFIF database was previously loaded, FS-Navigator must be restarted. In other case, DAFIF airports can be enabled. FS-Navigator V1.2 doesn t have the ability to create ARPT files. Please, contact Icaro Systems team in order to get detailed information on creating ARPT files. Note: Imported airports cannot be filtered with DAFIF filtering options available in main options window. Only original airports can be filtered. Page 37 of 46
38 Section 5. DAFIF View (Experimental) FS-Navigator has an experimental representation of part of Digital Aeronautical Flight Information Files (DAFIF). Only airports and heliports are visible when enabling DAFIF features. DAFIF configuration can be done from the main options window. This window allows the user to exclude countries. The user must to restart FS-Navigator software when Excluded countries list is modified. Further versions of software will show more DAFIF data. Figure 57. 40 Section 6. Competition features FS-Navigator software accomplishes GAC rules for aero rally competitions. Next sections will describe the way FS-Navigator treat logger device s data and courses data to qualify competitors and generate competition results. Track and Course files are the most important files needed for aero rally competitions. With these files, the user can check competitor s tracks, check for track errors and see results. Section 6.1. Multi-track feature According with FS-Navigator multi object concept, the user can check and inspect all competitors tracks at same time, and generate results automatically. With this feature, different competitor s track can be compared as the figure below. Figure 61. Multi track view Section 6.2. Assigning tracks to courses When a track object is assigned to a course object, track object is painted according with rules, and red segments will be displayed showing track errors. Tracks can be assigned to any loaded course from the specific track object menu (Assign option). By default, any course object is assigned when track objects are loaded. Figure 62. Assigning course object Only visual changes occur when tracks are assigned to course objects. Users don t need to assign objects in order to generate results. Page 40 of 46

Under specific course options, View Results shows the results window. In this window, the user can review and report results for all loaded tracks. 42 Course results window options: Table 6. Course results options OPTION DESCRIPTION These options allow the user to see logged times in UTC Time or Local Time. Local Time configuration depends on computer s Local Time configuration. Printing options allow the user to print all results or individual competitor results. Printer setup must be done before printing with PRINTER SETUP button. Save button allows the user to save individual competitor results in a standard text file. AeroRally connection allows the user to send data directly to Aerorally database. Excel button generate excel file results from individual competitors. Close this window. Only active track is showed in Course results window. Clicking over track objects, results will be generated for selected track object. Individual printing and saving options will operate with selected track object. Section 6.4. Aero rally connection Aero rally connection was implemented in order to auto update Aero rally software database with times and track errors from all competitors. These are the steps to update aerorally databases: 1. Select aerorally database. Aerorally software works with Access 97 databases (MDB files). 2. Select stage. Aerorally software is divided into different stages. 3. Select competitor. 4. Go to step 1 and repeat the process for all competitors. After database is updated, competitor s times for each stage will be copied, and aerorally can directly generate stage results. Page 42 of 46
