3 About this guide Introduction This guide explains how to install Ensim Pro and Ensim Basic 3.7 for Linux on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 3 or Fedora Core 1.0 server. Throughout this guide, Ensim Pro and Ensim Basic 3.7 for Linux is referred to as Ensim Control Panel and Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 3 is referred to as RHEL 3. 7 CHAPTER 1 Before you install Introduction This chapter describes the minimum system requirements for installing Ensim Control Panel and provides a checklist to help you prepare for the installation. You can install Ensim Control Panel on any server that runs the RHEL 3 or Fedora Core 1.0 operating system. You must have RHEL 3 or Fedora 1.0 already installed on the server on which you want to install Ensim Control Panel. The RHEL or Fedora setup must meet the minimum requirements stipulated by Ensim. Topics include: RHEL 3 installation requirements on page 1-1 Fedora Core 1.0 installation requirements on page 1-5 System requirements on page 1-5 Installation checklist on page 1-7 RHEL 3 installation requirements The RHEL installation requires certain packages to be installed. If you are installing RHEL 3 on your own, you have control over the packages that you select during the installation process. Please ensure that you only select the packages listed in Step 2. Once you do that, you can directly proceed to the section Installing additional RPMs. However, if you are working with a pre-configured RHEL server, the package selection is already done. It may, or may not, reflect the required set in Step 2. If the packages are different from this list, you must review the section Installing the complete set of RPMs and install all the RPMS listed in Table 1-1. 8 CHAPTER 1 BEFORE YOU INSTALL To select the packages during the installation process: 1 Select the Customize Software Selection tab to access the list of package groups. 2 On the Package Group Selection screen, select only the following packages. This section lists the base set of RPMs that must be installed on the server before you install Ensim Control Panel. The RPM versions specified indicate the minimum requirement. You may install a higher version of the RPM from the same distribution. To install the additional RPMs: 1 Log on to the server on which you want to install Ensim Control Panel. 2 Create a directory extra_rpms to store the additional RPMs. 3 Copy the following RPMs from the RHEL CD-ROMs and install them manually: compat-db i386.rpm compat-slang i386.rpm freetype-devel i386.rpm httpd-devel ent.i386.rpm ImageMagick i386.rpm 1-2 ENSIM PRO AND ENSIM BASIC 3.7 FOR LINUX (LS) INSTALLATION GUIDE

The list of packages display. 8 Select the packages required for installing Ensim Control Panel and click Download Packages. 9 Verify that all RPM dependencies are satisfied. #rpm -Uvh *.rpm --test If a dependency error is evidenced, install the required RPM before proceeding to install the RHEL RPMs. 10 Install the RHEL RPMs using the following command. #rpm -Uvh *.rpm Installing the complete set of RPMs This section assumes that you do not have the required packages installed as specified in Step 2. Table 1-1 provides the complete set of RPMs that you will need to install if you are working with a pre-configured RHEL server and you do not have the required packages installed as specified in Step 2. The RPM versions specified indicate the minimum requirement. You may install a higher version of the RPM from the same distribution. Installation type You can opt for any of the following installation types. Network Servers Text-based Internet You must select the ncftp package listed in the Package Group Text-based Internet. System requirements Your system must meet the following minimum requirements for installing Ensim Control Panel. Table 1-2. You may want to customize your disk partitions to manage the available disk resources on the target server. For information on customizing disk partitions, refer to the document Ensim Pro 3.7 for Linux Technical Reference Guide at support/pro/linux/rhel_index.html. 13 CHAPTER 1 BEFORE YOU INSTALL Installation checklist Use the following checklist to verify that you have adequately prepared your system for a successful installation. Table 1-3. Choose the software repository that you want to use for installing Ensim Control Panel Requirement Description Status Ensim FTP server Ensim Control Panel CD-ROMs Local FTP server The Installer obtains the installation files from the Ensim FTP server. The Installer knows the address of the Ensim FTP server. RHEL: One Ensim Control Panel CD- ROM (purchased from buy.ensim.com). The Installer obtains the installation files from the CD-ROM. Fedora: Two Ensim Control Panel CD- ROMs (purchased from buy.ensim.com). The Installer obtains the installation files from the CD-ROMs. The Installer obtains the installation files from your local FTP server. You will need to configure the local FTP server. For instructions, see Setting up a local FTP server to install Ensim Pro and Ensim Basic 3.7 for Linux (LS) at rhel_index.html. 15 CHAPTER 2 Installing Ensim Pro and Ensim Basic on an existing RHEL 3 server Introduction This chapter provides instructions on installing Ensim Control Panel on a RHEL 3 server. There are two modes of installation Curses-based (using the Installer script LWPInstaller.sh). This method requires users to download and run the script on the command line with the parameters listed in Table 2-1. This method employs the default option and is recommended for standard users. If you using the curses-based installation, and using the system console to run LWPInstaller.sh, you should encounter no issues. However, if you are remotely logging in through a terminal application, please be aware that the curses-based installation will work if the terminal application has its terminal setting set to xterm. You can always run the command echo $TERM to determine your terminal setting. If the default installation does not work (for example, if you are using a terminal emulation setting such as VT100), or if you are unsure of the terminal setting, please use the text-based installation documented in the following section. Text-based (using the Installer script LWPInstaller.sh with the --classic option). This method requires users again to download and run the script on the command line, but with instructions specified in the section Ensim Control Panel installation for advanced users on page 2-3. This method employs the --classic option and is recommended for advanced users. The time required to install Ensim Control Panel is approximately 20 minutes. Before you install, ensure that you meet the system and software requirements specified in Chapter 1, Before you install. Installing Ensim Control Panel The following section describes the steps to install Ensim Control Panel. Refer to Table 2-1 for the parameter descriptions. #sh LWPInstaller.sh -- --ftp_server=<ftp_server_url> --no-puc --no-quotacheck -- =< _address> --cdrom=<yes/no> The LWPInstaller.sh script is a wrapper that embeds the Installer script. The additional hyphens (--) are necessary to indicate to the wrapper that all parameters successive to the hyphens (--) must be passed on to the embedded Installer script. Example In the following example, the command installs Ensim Control Panel using the cursesbased, or default option. #sh LWPInstaller.sh -- --ftp_server=ftp.ensim.com --no-puc --no-quotacheck -- =admin@example.com --cdrom=n The Installer begins installation of Ensim Control Panel. All the services and add-ons provided by Ensim Control Panel are installed. If you encounter problems during the installation, please use the information in Appendix A, Troubleshooting installation issues to resolve the issue. 4 After installation, you need to set up Ensim Control Panel before you can access or perform administrative tasks. To set up Ensim Control Panel, open a Web browser, enter the URL host name (or IP address)>, and fill in the required setup information. To use the Power Tools add-on, you must install the Power Tools license. Ensim Control Panel installation for advanced users As an advanced user, you can opt for a text-based installation of Ensim Control Panel by running the Installer script LWPInstaller.sh with the --classic option at the command prompt. To do so, download the Installer script from the Ensim support page then run the script with the parameters listed in Table 2-1. To install Ensim Control Panel: 1 Log on to the server on which you want to install Ensim Control Panel. 2 Download the Installer script from the Ensim support page support/downloads.html. 19 CHAPTER 3 Installing Ensim Pro and Ensim Basic on an existing Fedora Core 1.0 server Introduction This chapter provides instructions on installing Ensim Control Panel on a pre-configured Fedora Core 1.0 server using the Installer. Installing Ensim Control Panel on a Fedora Core 1.0 server requires you to create a custom Installer LWPInstaller.sh using the Installer wizard, then download the Installer to the Fedora Core 1.0 server on which you want to install Ensim Control Panel, and run the script on the command line. Advanced users can opt for a text-based installation of Ensim Control Panel by running the Installer script, LWPInstaller_txt.sh, at the command prompt. For instructions, please refer to the section Ensim Control Panel installation for advanced users on page 3-2. The time required to install Ensim Control Panel is approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Before you install, ensure that you meet the system and software requirements specified in Chapter 1, Before you install. Installing Ensim Control Panel The following section provides instructions for installing Ensim Control Panel. Before you follow the instructions in this section, run the Installation Wizard and download the Installer file LWPInstaller.sh to the Fedora Core 1.0 server where you want to install Ensim Control Panel. Note that you must select the option Install Ensim Control Panel on a Fedora Core 1 server on the Choose Installation Type page of the wizard. If you have not downloaded the Installer file, please visit and run the wizard. To install Ensim Control Panel: 1 Log on to the Fedora Core 1.0 server where you downloaded the Installer file. 2 Change to the directory where you saved the Installer file. #cd /<dir_name> where <dir_name> is the name of the directory where you downloaded the Installer file. 20 CHAPTER 3 INSTALLING ENSIM PRO AND ENSIM BASIC ON AN EXISTING FEDORA CORE 1.0 SERVER 3 Run the Installer by typing the following command at the prompt: #sh LWPInstaller.sh If you chose the Ensim Control Panel CD-ROM option in Step 3 of the wizard, you will be prompted to insert the CD-ROMs (disk 1 and disk 2). 4 Optional: Insert the Ensim Control Panel CD-ROM disks (when prompted) in the disk drive of your target server and press Enter. The Installer begins installation of Ensim Control Panel. All the services and add-ons provided by Ensim Control Panel are installed. If you encounter problems during the installation, please use the information in Appendix A, Troubleshooting installation issues to resolve the issue. 5 After installation, you need to set up Ensim Control Panel before you can access or perform administrative tasks. 23 APPENDIX A Troubleshooting installation issues Introduction This chapter describes issues that you may encounter during the installation. If you encounter problems that you cannot troubleshoot or resolve using the information in Table A-1 or the log files (see Log files), contact Ensim for online support at Table A-1. Troubleshooting installation issues (Installer) Symptom Description Solution When you run the command, hostname the value "myhost" is returned by the command instead of myhost.mydomain.com. Unable to connect to Ensim s FTP server. Cannot download Ensim Control Panel. The host name of the server is incorrect. Failed to download the metadata from ftp.ensim.com. Error initializing setup. Error downloading Ensim Control Panel. Check the file /etc/sysconfig/network. The host name must be a fully qualified domain name. See the following example.
