New Features and Enhancements MapMarker Plus Canada 9 includes a new Address Dictionary (October 2008 data vintage), as described in the Address Dictionary Update section. Following is a summary of the new features that are introduced with the MapMarker Plus Canada 9 software release. Address Dictionary Update The Address Dictionary has been updated with the data generated from several sources. Data vintages for MapMarker Plus Canada 9 are: Tele Atlas Multinet Canada Data (October 2008) Canada Post Address Range Data (October 2008) Tele Atlas PCCF (Postal Codes) (October 2008) 2006 Census Geographies refresh (October 2008) The total size of the Address Dictionary files for all provinces and territories is approximately 268MB. Matching Improvements and Additional Content from Canada Post Data MapMarker Plus Canada 9 includes a number of geocoding improvements. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 also uses additional content from the Canada Post data source and processes the data more efficiently to provide better accuracy. Note the following enhancements in this release of MapMarker: More accurate return of municipality names, including handling of slight misspellings of municipalities. Improved close matching. Improved address type recognition, including P.O. Box (PO), Case Postale (CP), Lock Box, Rural Route (RR), Mobile Route (MR), Suburban Service (SS), and General Delivery (GD). Geocodes and returns placenames, such as building names and government office names. Handles numeric street names (such as 43rd St.) to find matches in Canada Post data (Forty Third St.) Includes unmatched Canada Post street address records. If the address has no inherent geometry, MapMarker uses the candidate's postal code centroid. These records can generate S3, S1, or S0 result codes depending on whether the candidate centroid is based on the FSALDU (S3), FSA only (S1), or neither (S0). Improved Performance MapMarker Plus Canada 9 performance has been significantly improved, especially when input addresses with postal code information (FSA only or FSALDU). Depending on the nature of your input data, geocoding performance may be improved by 40 or 50% (or in some cases even more). Single Line Address MapMarker Plus Canada 9 can geocode input addresses in which address components are entered on a single line. For example, 26 Wellington Street East, Suite 500, Toronto ON M5E 1S2. This is described in the topic Using Single Line Address Geocoding topic in Chapter 5 (Geocoding with MapMarker Canada) of the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. Note that non-delimited or partially-delimited single line addresses may take longer to geocode and may not produce the same results as delimited single line input. This is especially true for addresses with multi-word street names or cities (for example, Sault Ste Marie). To optimize single line geocoding, use delimiters between address components (particularly between street name and city). MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 2

Intersection Geocoding with Single Line Address Intersections can be geocoded with the && separator between the two streets. You must use a delimiter between the street and city or postal code address element. For example, if you input and street geocode the following address with an SX result code: Yonge && Wellington; Toronto ON MapMarker returns the address: 46 YONGE ST && 2 WELLINGTON ST E, TORONTO ON M5E For examples of intersection geocoding, see the topic Matching to Intersections in Chapter 8 (Specialized Geocoding Features) of the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. For a description of single line geocoding capabilities (including street intersections), see Single Line Geocoding Capabilities and Guidelines in Chapter 5 (Geocoding with MapMarker Canada) of the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. Quick Find Enhancements The results of a Quick Find are now displayed in a list control that provides more information on the returned candidates. For example, you will see icons that indicate whether a candidate is a close match. You can also copy information (such as x, y coordinates) to the clipboard and paste that into other applications, such as MapInfo Professional. See the topic on Finding a Single Address with Quick Find in Chapter 8 (Specialized Geocoding Features) in the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. Defined Match Modes You can use defined match modes to simplify the selection of geocoding match preferences. The defined match modes are: Relaxed, Exact, and Default. These defined match modes can give you the match precision that you need without the granular control that you have with Custom Match Restrictions. See the topic Match Settings Dialog in Chapter 3 (Geocoding with MapMarker) in the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. SERP Rules The Software Evaluation and Recognition Program (SERP) of Canada Post Corporation (CPC) provides guidelines and specifications to ensure the consistency and accuracy of mailing addresses. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 adapts the SERP Address Validation and Correction and recognizes the following categories of addresses: Valid An address is classified as Valid when: all components of the input address are present and unambiguous, and the address matches one (and only one) address in the CPC data files Correctable An invalid address is classified as correctable (C) when: there are one or more components missing or inconsistent from an otherwise valid address, and only one CPC address can be derived from the information provided Non-Correctable An invalid address is classified as non-correctable (N) when: there are one or more components missing or inconsistent from an otherwise valid address, and a valid CPC address cannot be derived from the information provided. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 3

Table Attribution Features and Usability Enhancements MapMarker already has the ability to add information from one table to another, either before, during, or after the geocoding process. The Desktop Application Geocode dialog also provides access to an Attribution Wizard that greatly simplifies the process of adding attributes from one table to another. There are other graphical interface and usability improvements to make the table attribution feature much easier to access and use. See the topic Table Attribution with MapMarker in Chapter 8 (Specialized Geocoding Features) MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. Support for CSV and Delimited Text Files The MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Desktop application can open CSV or other delimited text files. The Desktop Application interface has been enhanced to support these features. Support for Fixed Length Text Files The MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Desktop application can open fixed length text files. Normally the records are separated by line-feed / carriage return characters. A fixed length text data file uses "txt" as the extension in its name. The Text File Wizard guides you through the process of opening and using text files. Saving and Using Project Files MapMarker allows you to create a MapMarker project file to preserve all current geocoding settings, matching and fallback preferences, table attributes settings, and system preferences. When you subsequently open the project, settings and preferences are restored. Project settings supersede any settings in the associated TAB file. A project also allows you to preserve settings and preferences from a text input file (for example, a CSV delimited file). You can create multiple projects based on the same TAB or text input file. By creating unique projects based on the same input data, you can design, preserve, and manage multiple geocoding strategies customized to suit your needs. See the topic on Creating and Saving a Project in Chapter 3 (Geocoding with MapMarker) of the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. User Dictionary Supports Placenames Placename data is now supported as an optional field when you create a user dictionary. 7 Changes with MapMarker Plus Canada 9 You may notice the following changes in MapMarker Plus Canada 9 compared to earlier versions of the product. Integrating MapMarker Canada and MapMarker USA In MapMarker Plus Canada 9, the MapMarker Server (mm_serve.exe) and MapMarker Geocoder Control (mapmarkr.ocx) are installed in C:\Program Files\Common Files\MapInfo\MMOCX. This means that you no longer need to perform any manual configuration steps to integrate MapMarker USA and MapMarker Canada. Uninstalling MapMarker To properly uninstall MapMarker, you must run the Uninstaller. If you do not run the Uninstaller, but instead delete the MapMarker directories, the MapMarker product will not properly uninstall and you will not be able to routinely reinstall the product. To uninstall MapMarker on Windows, always use the Add or Remove Program tool. On non-windows environments, always run the uninstall application provided on the product media. This is described in the topic Uninstalling MapMarker in the User Guide. Note If you simply delete directories, this action also deletes the Uninstaller application itself, so you will not be able to recover easily. If you did delete MapMarker directories and need to reinstall the same version of the product, call Technical Support to help resolve this issue. See the topic Getting Technical Support in the Introduction chapter of your MapMarker User Guide or Developer Guide. Fixes to Customer-Reported Issues We have worked to address problems and bugs that have been reported by customers. Following is a list of customer-reported incidents that have been addressed in MapMarker Plus Canada 9. The leading 'T' numbers are the Incident Numbers that Pitney Bowes MapInfo uses to track these customer issues. In some cases, the description is a consolidation of several related Incident Numbers. All of these items have been fixed in MapMarker Plus Canada 9. T25315: A close match candidate has the wrong LDU even though the correct LDU is available in the list of returned candidates. This has been fixed. T24932: Street numbers that are input in numeric format cause exceptions when geocoding with the Java API. For example and address like: 402 One Fifty Avenue will fail to geocode. MapMarker now converts this type of address to numeric format so that it can attempt to geocode. T24374: Using JVM 1.6, intersection geocoding may rarely, fail to return candidates. This has been fixed. T26720: An incomplete FSA in an input address (such as a single character) causes an unexpected error. This has been fixed. T24640: The User Dictionary tool does not generate dictionary description file. When creating a user dictionary, the wizard now prompts you for a descriptive dictionary name and writes this to a file named dictionarydesc.txt. Known Issues This section describes provides information specifically related to Windows Vista and UNIX/Linux platforms. This section also provides information and workarounds related to several known issues. This is true on all operating platforms. Windows Vista imposes some additional restrictions on installing and running MapMarker. This section provides some background on Microsoft Vista security-related issues and gives specific information on installing and running MapMarker on Windows Vista. Windows Vista uses UAC (User Account Control). When UAC is turned off, the Administrator can install MapMarker and run MapMarker programs with no additional requirements. However, when UAC is turned on, you must meet both of the following conditions to install MapMarker, Start the MapMarker Server, or Stop the MapMarker Server. You must be an Administrator, and You must run the application with administrator credentials applied. When an administrator launches the installer (setup.exe), UAC will ask the user if they want to allow the program to execute. When the user clicks the Allow button, administrator credentials are automatically applied for the user while the installation executes. For other programs, such as starting or stopping the MapMarker server or installing the server as a Windows Service, administrator credentials must be explicitly applied. Starting and Stopping the MapMarker Server: To start or stop the server using administrator credentials, right-click the shortcut for the operation that you wish to perform and from the menu that appears, select "Run as administrator". If you did not install shortcuts, run the commands from an Administrator Command Prompt. This is described in the topic Starting the MapMarker Server in Chapter 2 of the MapMarker Plus Canada Developer Guide. Note: To open an Administrator Command Prompt, access the Start Menu and select All Programs > Accessories. Right-click the shortcut titled "Command Prompt" and from the menu that appears, select "Run as administrator". The command prompt that opens will allow commands to be executed with administrator credentials applied Installing and Removing the MapMarker Server as a Windows Service: To install or remove the server as a Windows Service, first open an Administrator Command Prompt as described in the Note above. From the Command Prompt, run the commands to install or remove the service, as described in the topic Running the Web Application as a Windows Service in Chapter 4 of the MapMarker Plus Canada Developer Guide. Generating reports, log files, and updating tables: Reports, log files, and tables (.tab files) must be directed to a writable location. Windows Vista with UAC enabled does not allow users to write to the default Programs folder. If the user cannot write output to the designated directory, the action will fail without notification. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 8

To solve this problem, create the log file and other output in a location where the user always has write permissions (such as the user s Desktop or Documents Folder). To set the log file in the Desktop Application, specify the full path to to a writable location for the log file on the Log File tab of the Geocode dialog box. See the Log File Preferences topic in Chapter 6 of the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide for additional information. As an additional option, the user can right-click on the Desktop Application shortcut and start the application with administrator credentials by selecting "Run as administrator". With these credentials applied, the user can then create reports, log files, or tables in the default Programs folder or any other location. Using ODBC Data source: You must have administrator privilege to create a new ODBC data source. The user also must set up their ODBC connections in advance. Shortcut not Removed on Windows Vista: When uninstalling on Windows Vista, the shortcut may not be removed properly. The program files do uninstall properly, but the shortcut may be left behind. UNIX / Linux-Related Issues On UNIX/Linux platforms, there are some installation and startup issues related to administrator rights. Installation: For UNIX and Linux installations, you must have administrator rights on the target machine to install MapMarker. If you attempt to install on a machine where you do not have administrator rights, you will receive an error message. Starting the Tomcat Server: On UNIX/Linux platforms, the Tomcat server must be started and stopped by a user with administrator rights. Reinstall Failure after Improper Uninstall: To properly uninstall MapMarker, you must run the Uninstaller. If you did not run the Uninstaller, but instead deleted the MapMarker directories, you will not be able to routinely reinstall the product. For more details, see Uninstalling MapMarker on page 7. Shared Installation Location of Files After the administrator installs the Desktop Application as a Shared application, each client user must then run the client desktop installation (ClientSetup.exe). The client users also must be able to access to the shared data. By default, the data is installed in the folder: MapMarker_CAN_v9_Data. Under that folder, the DesktopInstaller folder contains the ClientSetup.exe. After completing the Shared installation, the administrator can share the MapMarker_CAN_v9_Data folder (and the subordinate DesktopInstaller folder). Client users will then have access to everything that they need to perform a client installation and access shared data. Log File for Cancelled or Failed Install When the installation fails or is cancelled, a log file is created that provides some insight into what happened. This is useful in the silent install scenarios (install, modify, update, or uninstall), because it directs the user to what must be changed. On Microsoft Windows, the log is created on the user's desktop. On UNIX/Linux systems, it will be created in the user's home directory or at the root directory ( / ). Console Installation UNIX The MapMarker Plus Developer product does not support console installations for UNIX or Linux operating systems. Run a silent install instead. See the Installation chapter in the MapMarker Plus Developer Guide for more information. Silent Uninstall on Windows XP Silent uninstall on Windows XP does not clean up all folders and registry keys. After the uninstall is completed, you must manually remove the following registry key: MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 9

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mapinfo\MapMarker\CAN\9.0\GEOCODING\RequireProvince Loading User Dictionary Only (-udonly Option) The -udonly option (to load user dictionaries only) in MapMarker Server works with MapMarker Plus Canada, but requires modifications to the Windows registry before you can use it. For example, the following command: mm_serve -console -udonly should start MapMarker Server as a console application and load the user dictionary only. However, you must first add two values to the System key for the user dictionary path in an 13.0 tree. CAUTION: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Pitney Bowes Software Inc. cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Make a backup of the registry before you modify it and make sure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, see this article (Description of the Microsoft Windows registry) in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: To add the registry values, do the following: 1. Choose Start > Run, and type regedit in the Open box. 2. In the Registry Editor, open the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MAPMARKER PLUS\CAN\9.0\SYSTEM 3. Add the following string value: UserDictionaryPath 4. Add the following DWORD value: UseUserDictionary Unable to Create User Dictionary You may get the following error when you attempt to create a user dictionary: A workaround for this problem is to increase the java heap size in the geojni.cfg file. The default location of the geojni.cfg file is: C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_Canada\7.0\Desktop\geojni.cfg The changed setting is noted in bold below: # # geojni.cfg # # This file defines the jni settings and the # MapMarker Java defaults. # +jvmpath=c:\program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_Canada\9.0\_jvm\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll +numvmoptions=5 -Djava.class.path=C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_Canada\9.0\Desktop\;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmjclient.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmjserver.jar;C:\Program MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 10

Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmj.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\miutil.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\micsys.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmj_can.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmjclient_can.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\miscp.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmjjni.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\mmjjni_can.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\commons-logging.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\mxjgeom.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\mijts.jar;C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_ Canada\9.0\Desktop\jdom.jar -server -Xms128m -Xmx512m # increase java heap size from 256 to 512 Unable to Open Table After Removing AnySite 8.7 You may have problems opening a table in MapMarker Plus Canada if you also have AnySite 8.7 installed, and then subsequently remove AnySite 8.7 from your computer. When you attempt to open a table, you may get an invalid class string error. To work around the problem, repair the desktop by running the MapMarker Plus Canada ClientSetup.exe. Its default location is: C:\Program Files\MapInfo\MapMarker_CAN_v9\MapMarker_CAN_v9_Data\DesktopInstaller\ ClientSetup.exe. Choose Repair when prompted. Invalid Class String Error when Opening Table When you update to MapMarker Plus Canada 9.0 from an earlier version of MapMarker on a computer that also has MapX installed, some MapX-related components are removed. As a result, you will get an invalid class string error when you attempt to open a table in MapMarker 9.0. The solution for this is to uninstall then reinstall MapX. Text File Interactive Geocoding The MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Desktop application can open and geocode delimited and fixed-width text files. See Support for CSV and Delimited Text Files on page 4 and Support for Fixed Length Text Files on page 4. However you cannot interactively geocode text files. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 supports automatic geocoding of both delimited and fixed-width text files. Inexact Result Code for Some Non-Delimited Single Line Addresses Under some circumstances, single line address input does not return a city match (missing a C in the result code). This can occur when an non-delimited single line address includes a multiword city (such as NOTRE-DAME DES PRAIRIES). This is a relatively rare issue. When delimiters are used in the single line input, or is the address is entered in multiline format, the complete result code is returned. Placename Geocoding Placename geocoding without a main address (city and province only) may not produce matches. If you add postal information, you will get matching candidates. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 11

Quick Find and Intersection Geocoding Quick Find supports intersection geocoding, but you cannot perform candidate visualization of an intersection match. If you attempt this, you also will receive an irrelevant error message. Georesult Dialog Box The Georesult dialog box has some USA-centric selections that refer to ZIP Code. Desktop Application Does Not Provide Placename Field When you create a user dictionary using the MapMarker Desktop Application, there is no way to specify the placename as an optional field. However you can use the User Dictionary utility (installed with your MapMarker product), which does support the Smallint Data Type Created with MapInfo 9.0 or Later If a TAB file was created with MapInfo Professional 9.0 or later, there is an incompatibility with the Smallint data type. If you select such a TAB file when creating a user dictionary, the User Dictionary utility will fail. Note that this problem occurs with TAB files created with MapInfo 9.0 or later only. As a workaround, you can edit the TAB file in a text editor and make sure the data type is Smallint (note the lower case i ). Or you can use MapInfo Professional to modify the table structure (Table > Maintenance > Table Structure) and convert Smallint columns to Integer. Incompatible Data Types Created with MapInfo 9.0 or Later MapInfo 9.0 or later can use the Time and Date/Time data types. However, these data types are not supported by MapMarker. If you select such a TAB file when creating a user dictionary, the User Dictionary utility will fail. Note that this problem occurs with TAB files created with MapInfo 9.0 or later only. To avoid this issue, make sure that the MapInfo TAB file does not use either Time or Date/Time data types. Or as a workaround, you can use MapInfo Professional to modify the table structure (Table > Maintenance > Table Structure) and either remove the fields with Time and Date/Time data types or change the data type to one of these supported ones: Char Integer Smallint Float Decimal Date Logical Copying Information from the Quick Find Candidate List You can easily copy information from the Quick Find candidate list into another application. This feature is described in the The Specialized Geocoding Features chapter of the MapMarker Plus Canada User Guide. The Copy with Census menu selection will copy available census information for street geocoded candidates only. Census information is not available for postal or geographic fallback candidates. The documentation is incorrect on this point. MapMarker Plus Canada 9 Release Notes 12
