2 REALTIME 6.0-Beta Patch-2 Release Notes, 13 March 2003 Installs and Upgrades Important Instructions Version 6.0 Beta Patch-2 release contains enhancements to the TDB-XML interfaces. This release is only for Windows platform. Version 6.0 Beta Patch-1 release contains enhancements to the TDB-XML interfaces and changes to the Pop menu User Interface. This release is only for Windows platform. Version 6.0 Beta release for all customers participating in the Beta program. This is not an upgrade release and does not replace earlier versions of AMS REALTIME Projects. Ensure you have fully understood the requirements of the Beta Program and signed up an agreement with AMS for the Beta Program. Refer Do not overwrite any existing release installation of AMS REALTIME RTP. Data saved with RTP 6.0 will not be read by earlier versions. So, ensure you use only a copy of the older version project files. To use the python interface, you need Python installation on the system. This version uses Python only. It can coexist with Python 1.5.2, provided it is installed in a different location. AMS recommends that you make backup copies of all Project Files, Database Files, Preference Files, Map Files, Report Files and Batch files that are present in the existing program directories and subdirectories, before you install or unzip this Beta version. This release includes 32 bit versions for Windows including 98, NT4, 2000, ME and Windows XP. It also includes Linux Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and IBM AIX versions. The installation program will automatically detect the operating system and install the appropriate software. Linux builds support Intel versions with kernels onwards. 3 REALTIME 6.0-Beta Patch-2 Release Notes, 13 March, 2003 Major Features 6.0 Beta Patch 2 o Data format related issues, particularly with dates and short tasks (less than a day duration) for TDB-XML interface. o Enhancements made to the XSLT files for transformation to and from Microsoft Project 2002 XML related to Constraints, Baseline information, Requirements, Short Tasks. 6.0 Beta Patch 1 o Data format related issues, particularly with calendars and dates resolved for TDB- XML interface. o Enhancements made to the XSLT files for transformation to and from Microsoft Project 2002 XML. o The pop menus shown from toolbar buttons have been converted to a different internal format for increased functionality. The menu will remain in place till the user moves the mouse into the menu list area. Once the mouse moves out of the menu list, the list is auto closed. This menu list has case insensitive type ahead capability. o There are known drawing issues with the column popup list. Once the user scrolls down, and keeps selecting columns to include, the left portion of the screen remains white (does not get redrawn). The whole application screen below the toolbar turns white, if the matching filter is turned on. This has no impact on the other features in the product. o XML translation related notes are provided in a separate document (xsl.pdf). 6.0 Beta o AMS REALTIME Projects now supports XML as a native format. The XML Schema for AMS REALTIME Projects (xsd) is being published along with the release. o XSL translators for AMS REALTIME Projects to MSP 2002 XML and vice-versa are available. They are not included as part of the standard release, but provided as an add-on. For more details contact sales@amsusa.com. o AMS REALTIME Projects Lite - a simplified and cheaper version of Projects is now available, though not released as Beta. For more details contact sales@amsusa.com. o A completely revised and updated WBS functionality. o Vision enhancements related to color, printing Enhanced Meta Files, Inclusion of CPI/SPI in the variance plots, etc. o User Interface enhancements to the Schedule Mode in editing the table, synchronization of table and Gantt chart, mouse wheel scrolling, selection of line and tasks, add-column popup, calendar popup on date fields and in the Gantt, representation of progress line, ability to define background pattern and color, etc. 3

4 REALTIME 6.0-Beta Patch-2 Release Notes, 13 March 2003 o File Save-As with a 'Shift' key modifier brings up the Librarian in a dialog, thus enabling the project file save to any database, viz., the local file system, ODBC system, AOS Oracle system or to AMS REALTIME Enterprise Server seamlessly. o Librarian now supports a BMP viewer and ARP file viewer. o ARP file viewer provides comprehensive information about the project selected, including an interactive Gantt Chart, Earned Value chart, Activity table; without opening the project. o Librarian indexing mechanisms have been enhanced to improve performance and display of information. o Sub-Project features have been revised. Sub-projects are represented differently in the ARP file viewer; on clicking the task, the sub-project expands. Multiple levels are supported and the project at any level can be opened by double-click (or right click). o Handling project and file rollups, have been improved and enhanced. o Network loopcheck feature is now built into the product. Introduction of a loop while networking the tasks, loading the network table with loops, etc. are handled by showing the conflict and letting the users resolve it. o Network dependencies that are critical and non-critical are distinguished from critical path tasks. Critical path representation is improved. o Table mode has a number of enhancements that has made the user interface cleaner and provide better performance. o Internationalization has been improved in terms of handling date separators, decimal separator and date formats are done. o AMS REALTIME Projects 6.0 now supports Python 2.2.2, a more recent and relatively bug-free version of Python. The earlier versions of Projects support Python o A number of enhancements to the Python API's have been introduced in this release. o AMS REALTIME Projects now supports a richer and more complete resource deployment model that can cater to complex resource management requirements in tandem with AMS REALTIME Resources. o Database related enhancements to resolve ODBC issues have been addressed. o RTRX is completely integrated into AMS REALTIME Projects and not provided as a separate update. 4

Contact sales@amsusa.com for the Beta build on these platforms. Platforms not listed here are in process of being supported and the release will be available soon. Users requiring Non-English versions can contact sales@amsusa.com for a schedule and support information. Limitations o Enterprise and Realtime Resources Exchange items on the menu are disabled, since the AMS REALTIME Resources Server is not yet released. o Linux RPM release is not yet available. o ODBC driver for accessing ARP file as a ODBC compliant database is not yet available. List of known issues o While renumbering WBS or copying to another structure, the screen does not get refreshed consistently. o Projects that were created with an earlier internal release of AMS REALTIME Projects 6.0 (not publicly available) can have problems when opened in this version. To resolve these issues, set the switch AdjustforRRN=N (Y is default). It is also recommended that the untitled.arp is saved back with this setting, if problems are observed. o Since this version uses Python libraries, there may be issues with existing python scripts. Contact Technical Support for resolution of those issues. o There are a few redraw issues in the schedule mode while using the ARP file viewer in the new Librarian File Open dialog. o On Windows XP, the Select Form dialog in Vision does not stay in the foreground (loses focus). o On Windows XP, certain drawing issues with respect to color and patterns, Fonts are seen. 5

Distribution The Beta release is distributed as a password protected zip archive. You will receive a mail from AMS on the location to download from and the password, after you register for the Beta Program. Users who need Python distribution can download the same from or from ftp://ftp.amsusa.com/anonymous/support/python/python exe Authorization Keys The authorization keys that you have for the existing version of the software will continue to work for this version. If you need a different evaluation key Send in your request to sales@amsusa.com and within two business days, you will receive an evaluation key. Configuration and other Files This version does not ship with a configuration file. Given below are the new or enhanced configuration switches for AMS REALTIME Projects that you can add to your existing copy of the configuration file. In a similar manner, the untitled.arp is not provided with the software. However, you can copy the sampleuntitled.arp as the untitled layout, if you need one. The Beta release does not include product documentation. Configuration Guide See the Configuration Guide for information on all the configuration switches and options. Project (.arp) files opened and then saved in version 6.0 will no longer work in earlier versions of the product. The same is true for Vision (.avf) report files too. Please make copies of any important Projects Schedule and Report files before upgrading to this version of the software. Installation Important The zip files contain only the standard files needed to run the program. You may need to obtain a new security authorization key from AMS or your local supplier, if you are upgrading from the original release of AMS REALTIME, version 5.0 projects and version 2.0 resources. You can forward a request to sales@amsusa.com for the authorization key. Windows 98, NT, ME, 2000 and XP The version 6.0 Beta downloads for the 32-bit family of products are supplied as a simple zip file that can be extracted by Winzip, or command line unzip utilties. Follow the steps below to upgrade your product. 1. Download the appropriate file from the Download page. 2. Extract the contents into a directory. 3. Copy rtp32.ini, rtp32.ctl, untitled.arp files from your existing installation and modify as necessary. 4. Copy other standard files that you may have and need for testing your processes and practicies. This will include shared project component files, rate tables, costbin.arp, python scripts, etc. 5. You are ready to go. Macintosh versions Not Available as Beta yet. Linux versions These builds are not available for download on the web page. 8 REALTIME 6.0-Beta Patch-2 Release Notes, 13 March 2003 details of the platform. Currently AMS REALTIME Projects 6.0 Beta is supported on RedHat 7.2 & above, Mandrake 9.0, Suse Linux 8.0. RPM version of the Beta will be released shortly. Unix versions These builds are not available for download on the web page. You can however request a build from sales@amsusa.com giving complete details of the platform. Currently AMS REALTIME Projects 6.0 Beta is supported on Solaris 8, HP-UX 11 and AIX 4.3. UNIX Setup Technical Notes AMS programs running under X11 (and Macintosh) use a text file format for resources called Parts. Dialogs and Menus are defined in Parts files. Parts files can be edited with any text editor, but it is not recommended that the standard software be modified. You may need to set the *fontlist resource in the.ad file in order to use a larger font for the menus and dialogs or in order to use a font that contains international characters. The argument to this setting is a valid X font name, not the translated names used by the application or used in the.cfg file. The *font resource must also be used on some platforms or the font scaling for dialogs will not work properly. The X programs have been changed to scale the dialogs based on the font selected for the dialogs. For SunOS, Solaris and AIX, the font scaling is based on the *font: resource, where the font itself is based on the *fontlist: resource. On the HP-UX platform, some of the fonts and the scaling in the dialogs can only be controlled by the Style Manager font size control (Vue Desktop Toolbar). Not all fonts will scale correctly on all platforms. Some adjustment of the SCALING option (described below) may still be required. The special path search order is used for Parts files (and other special files) This information is contained in the X11 readme: The command line path Rtp is opened specifying the path to an existing.sch or.arp file: rtp /usr/some/schedule.sch The current directory Only if there is no 'command line' path (rtp is opened without specifying a.sch or.arp file on the command line) then the 'current directory' is used The $HOME directory The users login directory 8

9 REALTIME 6.0-Beta Patch-2 Release Notes, 13 March, 2003 (where the executable is) The application directory The directory specified in the command line or the first directory in the $PATH containing the command or the -sys directory override. What this means is that you can copy the parts file into your $HOME directory and customize it as necessary. To change scaling for the dialog, use this command before the dialogs in the Parts file: SCALING x=#/# y=#/# w=#/# h=#/# A scale factor A/B means multiply by A and divide by B, so a scale factor of 2/1 means double, 1/2 means half, etc. Unless otherwise specified (it usually is specified), the default scaling is 1/1. The x factor is used for the horizontal placement of objects. The y factor is used for the vertical placement of objects. The w factor is used for the width of objects. The h factor is used for the height of objects. Settings in the.cfg file also have an affect on dialog behavior. For most objects, the Motif widget itself tries to calculate a reasonable width and height. If XDLGSRESIZE=Y, the dialog can be resized by manipulating the window and will try to re-place the objects appropriately. If XDLGSRESIZE=N the dialog cannot be resized and the initial placements are fixed. On some platforms some of the Motif buttons calculate a very tight width and height in some of the dialogs. It is unclear why Motif does this for some buttons and not others, so this isn't fully resolved. Here is info from xcfg.doc: XDLGSRESIZE=Y Set to N so the X dialogs cannot be resized resizable dialogs take a little bit longer to pop up XDLGSRESIZEFIX=N Set to Y to fix the resizing X dialogs on some RS platforms the resizing dialogs need an extra 'shake' for them to layout correctly. Language Installation The AMS REALTIME 6.0 release CD contains only English language version of the product. Other language versions can be made available on request. Windows The installation program detects the language of the target operating system and will install that language version of the product. If the language of the target operating system is not one of the supported languages, English will be installed by default. 9

This is done by modifying numbers after the SYMBOL#= setting in the configuration file. The numbers you enter represent the points on a gird which is 1000 X 1000 in size. The numbers are grouped into X,Y pairs. Each new pair you add to the grid will add a line from the coordinates of the previous numbers to the new coordinates. For example a square would be; SYMBOL1=0,0 0, , ,0 0,0 Each entry for SYMBOL#= will create a new symbol in the Activity Symbol list as shown below. If you wish to encircle your symbol once it is completed, place a C at the end of your SYMBOL#= string, e.g. Star Symbol SYMBOL2=975,345 25, , ,0 205, ,345 Star Symbol with Circle SYMBOL3=975,345 25, , ,0 205, ,345 C 11
