4 4 Release Notes LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes July 23, 2013 Version The LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes provide a list of new features, resolved issues, and current issues in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version The current issues may be addressed in an update or other future release of LAW PreDiscovery. What s New What s Resolved Current Issues Additional Information You can subscribe to an RSS feed that announces updates to current issues for LAW PreDiscovery and Early Data Analyzer. 5 LAW PreDiscovery Release Notes 5 Enhancements Enhancements LAW PreDiscovery version The following enhancements have been added to LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version 1.4.1: New Features Administration The Scan for Errors functionality can now be restricted to the current record set in the grid view. Search results may also be sent directly to the Scan for Errors function for analysis from the query builder (Send Results To -> Scan for Errors). Duplicate Viewer A "Near-Duplicates" tab was added to the Duplicate Viewer to display and navigate near-duplicate families. Right-click near-duplicates in this tab to compare the content in a Near-Duplicate Viewer and view the exact differences between the documents in a nearduplicate family. Early Data Analyzer Analysis/Processing Adobe PDF portfolio files are now expanded during analysis. The DD/RAW forensic image file format is now supported. Early Data Analyzer Web Documents in a case can be downloaded in Early Data Analyzer Web by clicking the "Retrieve Document" link in the document viewer panel within the Filters and Search tabs. Export

6 6 Release Notes A new export field category,.general\duplicates, was added for native exports and includes seven fields: DupCustNames, DupCustPaths, DupParentName, DupParentPath, DupId, HasDuplicate, and IsDuplicate. A third export type, Native Subset, was added and allows you to export subsets of documents based on a list of IDs or export numbers. Microsoft Outlook messages can now be exported to one of the following output formats: Native (MSG), HTML, HTML (MHTML when images are present), or MHTML using the new Outlook Format list on the Export tab for native and native subset exports. Filters Family Count and Size information is now visible on the Filters tab. Reporting A new report format, Import Report, is available on the Reports tab and contains file counts and sizes for data imported into the current case. Search A date range can now be specified as search criteria in the Search tab. The date range filter functionality (Filters tab) has not changed. The metadata fields included in the text index can now be customized from the Indexer tab in Case Settings. Note: Re-indexing is required if this list is modified after data has already been imported. Management Console The maximum number of workstations allowed to join a distributed batch or import can be specified in the Create/Modify Job Invitation dialog box. Near-Duplicate Analysis Near-duplicate analysis is now available within LAW PreDiscovery. This process compares the content of imported electronic documents and groups similar documents together by updating a set of index fields in the case. The Near-Duplicate Analysis (Tools menu) utility requires an additional license. Please contact your Sales representative or lawsales@lexisnexis.com for details. Please see the LAW PreDiscovery Answer Center / Help topic for information about near-duplicate analysis and related features. A tag can be expanded to include all near-duplicate documents if near-duplicate analysis has been run on a case. This allows additional documents to be included that may not have been tagged initially due to the criteria used for tagging the documents (Tools -> Promote Tag to Near-Duplicates).

7 Enhancements 7 TIFF/PDF Conversions and E-printing A "Slides and Notes (Full Page)" setting was added to the PowerPoint options. When enabled, speaker notes will be forced to a separate page to allow both slides and notes to be printed at full page size. Modifications Early Data Analyzer Early Data Analyzer Web Paging of saved searches and filter definitions (file type and domain) was incorporated in the Web interface for better performance. The Filter Analysis treemap was modified to be more responsive on large cases. Updated the Case Summary on the Dashboard to more closely match the desktop version's Case Summary. Export The columns in the "Documents tagged with" grid in the Export tab have been changed to: Count, Family Count, and Size. Filters The Count values will now only show top-level items. Child documents will be reflected in the Family Count. These child documents will no longer display in the file type filter since they cannot be separated from their parent document. The filter resolution process was optimized to improve performance on larger data sets (25M+ documents). The Sender Domain filter was optimized to improve performance on larger data sets (50K+ unique domains). Text Extraction The dtsearch engine was updated to version With this update, text extraction from Microsoft Project and Microsoft OneNote is now supported. This version also corrects an issue that prevented text extraction from MS Excel files with a very large number of rows. See for additional details.

8 8 Release Notes Text Extraction The dtsearch indexer configuration ("dtconfig" folder) is now read from the \Home directory. For existing installations, the existing configuration will be automatically copied to the new location. ED Loader The dtsearch engine was updated to version With this update, text extraction from Microsoft Project and Microsoft OneNote is now supported. This version also corrects an issue that prevented text extraction from MS Excel files with a very large number of rows. See for additional details Export The process used to insert a UTF-8 byte order marker on UTF-8 text files was optimized to significantly improve performance (up to 10x in some cases) when the "Allow Unicode in text" text export option is enabled. Full Text Search Reports The search results for the Full Text Search Reports feature is now stored directly in the SQL case database instead of an external Access database. When the Full Text Reports feature is accessed in an existing case with version 6.4, any existing search information will be migrated automatically to the SQL case database (leaving the original Access database in tact). Storing the search results in SQL eliminates the potential for exceeding the file size limit of an Access database (2GB) that can result with several thousand searches on a case with several million documents. 9 Resolved Issues 9 Resolved Issues Resolved Issues - LAW PreDiscovery The following reported issues have been resolved in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version 1.4.1: Administration The Scan for Errors process was failing with an "assertion failure" message when it reached approximately 65K records. Early Data Analyzer Analysis/Processing Analysis was failing with an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception when resuming processing of a partially-processed mail store from a container. A number of attachments from a specific Lotus Notes mail store were not being extracted in Early Data Analyzer (but were extracted properly in LAW PreDiscovery). Specific.zip files were misidentified as.xlsx files during analysis. Export Export failure was occurring when an attachment with an extension comprised of whitespace was encountered. Native Export Extraction failures were occurring for s that were embedded in other s. The sent dates shown in the HTM files generated for Lotus Notes s during native exports were incorrect due to a shift to GMT occurring twice. ED Loader Importing a RAR archive with 500+ items causes additional invalid records to be created and logged as errors. Note: No valid content or files were lost in this case. Importing a RAR archive with 500+ items causes some records to receive an invalid source file reference that contains a path within the local temporary folder. Specific.EML files were being misidentified as MBOX files (and warnings were logged),

10 10 Release Notes preventing the attachments from being extracted properly. Specific.ZIP files were misidentified during import and contents were not extracted. Tags from Early Data Analyzer were not updating after an ED Loader session (EDA export) was stopped and resumed. The date/time format and values for certain AOL messages were stored incorrectly in the HTML output. The DateLastMod timestamp for RAR files was being logged incorrectly if the year was 2012 or higher. The native file link was not present in the main interface for archive records after importing files with "Enable archive extraction" disabled in the ED Loader Archive settings. Under certain circumstances, the Incomplete tab in the Session Viewer was showing a file count when in fact no records were incomplete. Endorse Temporary files were not deleted after endorsing PDFs that were imported as raw images. Unicode endorsements were not getting applied on PDF files. See the Endorsing Headers and Footers topic in the LAW PreDiscovery Answer Center / Help for a list of supported languages. Exports An empty set of document tags were being added to the end of the iconect XML load file. An "Out of memory" error occurred in some cases when exporting a large number of records (500K+). Text files were being populated in the Recycle bin during the export process under certain conditions based on the text export options and the content of the text files. Full Text Search Reports The "Tag Text Hits" feature was not working when the tag field name started with an underscore (_). Import Tag List Importing a tag list using BegDoc# as the "Document ID" field was taking much longer than using a user-defined field.

11 Resolved Issues 11 Index Fields The Client field was not being populated for *.ost files. The extended property values were not stored correctly during import of specific Microsoft Excel files. Native Print The "Multiple jobs detected" warning was occurring during the native print process; however, there were no issues opening and printing the documents. Added a new message type to the message killer for the print server to close pop-ups that may occur when printing MSG files with invalid digital signatures. TIFF/PDF Conversions and E-printing A "Slides and Notes (Full Page)" setting was added to the PowerPoint options. When enabled, speaker notes will be forced to a separate page to allow both slides and notes to be printed at full page size. A blank page was being inserted when converting meeting requests to PDF. When manually converting Microsoft Excel files to PDF using the easypdf SDK 7 printer, the "Print Entire Workbook" print setting was not working. User Interface The scanner driver name in the Scanner Settings dialog box was getting cut off if the name was over a certain length. 12 12 Release Notes Current Issues The following items are current issues in LAW PreDiscovery version and Early Data Analyzer version 1.4.1: Early Data Analyzer Analysis/Processing: 7zip processing is much slower than the current archive processing due to limitations of the toolkit used for extraction. This issue will be addressed in a future release. Export: The export will attempt to run out-of-date searches prior to exporting to ensure the correct documents are queued (expected behavior). However, if the export is canceled, Early Data Analyzer will complete the search execution instead of cancelling immediately. Similarly, if a search error occurs, Early Data Analyzer will continue to execute all applicable searches prior to failing the export. These issues will be addressed in a future software release. Filters: Custom hash values cannot be imported from a folder if the path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. If possible, shorten the path to the folder prior to importing the hashes. Import: Decompression of JPEG images in ZIPX archives is not supported. Warnings are logged for the affected files during the import process. Users can then perform the extraction manually (or with another tool) outside of LAW PreDiscovery. Support for this format will be attempted in a future release. Exporting to a long path (exceeding Microsoft Windows file path limitations) will cause

13 Current Issues 13 the export to fail. The workaround is to specify an export Output Directory that does not exceed Windows file path limitations. An exception may occur when clicking the Edit link to customize the folder selection on the Import tab if the folder path exceeds Microsoft Windows file path limitations. While the files within the folders marked for inclusion should still import successfully, please perform quality control to ensure accuracy or place in a shorter path if possible prior to import. Reporting: The Document Timeline report may fail with an unhandled exception in larger cases (e.g. 10 million documents). Restrict the date range to include fewer documents to avoid this issue. This issue will be addressed in a future software release. Search: If the check boxes for completed, up-to-date searches are selected on the Search tab, and the Run Searches button is clicked, the software will process those searches again instead of skipping them, resulting in a potentially lengthier process time. In order to avoid this scenario, clear the check boxes for the up-to-date searches prior to clicking the Run Searches button. This issue will be resolved in a future software release. ED Loader: 7zip processing is much slower than the current archive processing due to limitations of the toolkit used for extraction. 14 14 Release Notes The contents can be included in similar reports in LAW PreDiscovery after the data is loaded. This issue will be resolved in a future software release. Full Text Search Reports: Sizes will not appear in the Full Text Reports in a case that is not enabled for electronic discovery due to the absence of the Filesize field. Use cases enabled for electronic discovery when utilizing the Full Text Search Reports feature. Near-Duplicate Analysis: The ND_TextState field is set to 0 (Extracted Text) when a document has no textual content. This document-level field indicates the type of text used during near-duplicate analysis. This behavior will change in a future release, but does not negatively affect near-duplicate analysis processing results. Re-running the Near-Duplicate Analysis utility without compacting data causes the status to always show Out of date. Compacting working data is recommended. To compact the data, click the Compact Working Data button. The Compact Working Data button only appears in the Near-Duplicate Analysis dialog box when the operation is needed. Performing near-duplicate analysis with a tag restriction after already performing nearduplicate analysis on all documents in a case can have unexpected results. Clearing previous near-duplicate analysis results will prevent this issue. Run commands to clear the data are available please lawsupport@lexisnexis.com for details. PDF Support: The PDF conversion process may fail on certain Microsoft Office documents on supported 64-bit operating systems (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2) with 32-bit Office Currently, the workaround is to run the conversion using an alternate system configuration (32- or 64-bit operating system with Office 2007 or 32-bit operating system with Office 2010).

15 Current Issues 15 Markup (e.g., comments, arrows, lines) existing in (raw image) imported PDFs will not be viewable in the LAW PreDiscovery image viewer and will not appear in the output when printed. As an alternative, the PDFs can be imported using ED Loader and, if needed, converted to TIFF or PDF. Scanning: The File Type scanner output value may become stuck (cannot be changed from dropdown list) in certain scenarios when using the scan toolbar. Close and re-open the scan toolbar to resolve the issue. LAW will close unexpectedly when the Edit > Insert > Scanned Document function is selected if a scanner is not configured in LAW. Ensure a scanner is properly configured in LAW prior to accessing this scan function.
