2 This note will describe the steps to update your HER040 to benefit the latest functionalities of the Ethernet to cellular gateway. HER040 upgrade procedure First step is to put your HER010 unit in configuration modem. As described in the HER040 user manual, plug the HER040 to the HER010, power on the modem, open an HyperTerminal session on the HER010, and send the commands AT+HPLUGIN=0 and AT+WOPEN=32,1,1( if you are using Wavecom firmware 663g or older, or AT+HPLUGIN=0 ; AT+WIOM=1, GPIO32,1,1 ; AT+WIOM=4 otherwise) to the modem. Then connect the HER040 to the PC using the dedicated cable. Open on your web browser (ConnectOne page for CO2128 firmwares). And download the firmware file for CO2128. Also download the ichipconfig utility:

3 Install the ichipconfig utility, and run it:

4 Click on the ichip Uploader via serial button: Select EBI Flash 8 Metabit (512K x16-bit) bottom and click OK. You will see the following screen: Click on FW update, and locate the *.imf file that contains the HER040 new firmware. Confirm and wait for the next screen:

5 Click OK, then the Monitor Mode window by clicking the X button on the top right corner (DO NOT use the Exit Monitor mode button). Click on the Dumb Terminal button in the main screen, and hit the enter key a few times to check that you get a > prompt. Type E 3 and press enter. There is no local echo so you will not see the E 3 text on the screen, but you will get another > prompt after you hit Enter. Then power cycle your modem, you can close Dumb Terminal button. Download the file HER040_final.RPF from Maestro Wireless Solutions website, go to the ichipconfig main screen, and under the File menu select the Load RPF file option. Load in the file you just downloaded, and click on the Save button: You may see the following screen:

6 If that is the case, click on Cancel, then click on the Dumb Terminal icon on the main screen of the utility, and type AT+iBDRM= h, then enter (it should reply with I/OK message) Finally quit the ichipconfig utility and reboot your Heritage modem. You now have the latest firmware update for your HER040 unit. Don t forget to enter AT+HPLUGIN=4 and AT+U2IPR=1 commands on your HER010 unit before you use it again. If you are using Wavecom firmware R71 or newer, also type AT+WIOM=0, GPIO32 ; AT+WIOM=4). HER040 Recovery procedure In some cases, we found that the upgrade process can corrupt the Ethernet module parameters, resulting in malfunction of the HER040 (modem not being able to connect to Internet). If that is the case, please follow this recovery procedure to repair the module. It is recommended that you read the full procedure before attempting to reproduce it, and contact Maestro for assistance if you feel uncomfortable about doing this yourself. Put your HER010 unit in configuration mode as described at the beginning of this document (AT+HPLUGIN=0 ; AT+WOPEN=32,1,1 or AT+HPLUGIN=0 ; AT+WIOM=1, GPIO32,1,1 ; AT+WIOM=4 depending on your firmware). In the ichipconfig utility, click on CO2128/2064 monitor mode under the Tools menu.

7 Select EBI Flash 8 Metabit (512K x16-bit) bottom and click OK. You will see the following screen: Shut down the modem power supply, get a thin pin, and slightly slide apart the HER010 and the HER040. This will uncover a hidden hole below the plastic casing of the modem: Insert a thin pin into this hole and press the pin until you ear the sound of a button being pushed.

8 Make sure the HER040 configuration cable connects the HER040 to your PC, power-on the modem and wait (with the pin pushed) for about 20 seconds (time for the HER010 to initialize and for the HER040 to enter configuration mode) then click OK on this window: After a few seconds you will see this screen;

9 Close this screen by clicking the X button on the top right corner (DO NOT use the Exit Monitor mode button). Click on the Dumb Terminal button in the main screen, and hit the enter key a few times to check that you get a > prompt. Type E 3 and press enter. There is no local echo so you will not see the E 3 text on the screen. Exit the Dumb Terminal window and restart the modem. Download the file HER040_final.RPF from Maestro Wireless Solutions website, go to the ichipconfig main screen, and under the File menu select the Load RPF file option. Load in the file you just downloaded, and click on the Save button:

10 You may see the following screen: If that is the case, click on Cancel, then click on the Dumb Terminal icon on the main screen of the utility, and type AT+iBDRM= h, then enter (it should reply with I/OK message)

11 Finally quit the ichipconfig utility and reboot your Heritage modem. Your HER040 unit should be working fine again. Don t forget to enter AT+HPLUGIN=4 and AT+U2IPR=1 commands on your HER010 unit before you use it again. If you are using Wavecom firmware R71 or newer, also type AT+WIOM=0, GPIO32 ; AT+WIOM=4).
