1 U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division Dodge Data Load Process - Automation 1.1 Loading the Dodge File From the Automated Survey Data System screen; click the Menu option. This displays the dropdown menu. Figure 1: Processes Dropdown Menu for Accessing Load Dodge Option Click the option to proceed with loading the Dodge Data. The Load Dodge Data from File screen appears. Figure 2: Specifying the Data Load File The analyst may then navigate to the text file folder and must now select the Dodge (text) file to be loaded from the repository folder. The two buttons: are both inactive at this stage (since no text file has been selected). Alternatively, the analyst may type the path in the Dodge File edit box directly or click the Windows Browse function. button (with ellipsis) to open the Manually typing the file path in the Dodge File Edit box will cause the system to monitor the path as it is typed. If the filename typed in is a valid one, the Load to Table button will automatically become live when any file path and file name have been fully typed. Figure 4: Dodge File Edit Box Populated with File Path At this stage, the button will become live and clicking it will start the load process. If the prerequisite of setting the survey status to Request Dodge Data has not been performed, the system will identify this condition and an error message panel will appear: Figure 5: Error Message The survey status must now be set appropriately as described above before loading may proceed. 3 Clicking the button will terminate the procedure and no data load will occur. If the load operation proceeds, the system will validate that that text file selected was not used in a prior load operation. If it was used, the following message panel is displayed. Figure 6: Confirm Message Clicking the button will terminate the load procedure and no data loading will occur. Clicking the button will cause the load operation to proceed. A panel with a progress bar will appear and track the progress of the load operation. Figure 7: Progress Bar When the operation is completed, another message panel is displayed listing the number of records that were successfully loaded. Click the button to proceed. The load operation, previously described, puts the Dodge Data into a staging area from which the system will now populate the survey. Following this, the button will become inactive. On completion of the Load to Table operation, the button will become active. Clicking this button will load the Dodge Data from the staging area to the database tables where, on completion, they may be viewed. US DOL WHD, Page 3 of 5

4 Figure 8: Load Dodge Data Screen During the Populate Survey operation, a progress bar appears to track the progress of the load operation. On completion, the processing message disappears and a message panel summarizing the outcome of the data load replaces it. Click the button and the system will then return to the Load Dodge Data from File panel. The button will again become inactive. Figure 9: Load Dodge Data from File Clicking the button will return the analyst to the original ASDS screen. The survey Status will have been automatically changed from Request Dodge Data to Received Dodge Data. Should the Dodge data be loaded incompletely because of an unscheduled power interruption or other cause, the analyst may manually reset the Survey Status to Request Dodge Data by editing the Survey screen and performing the Load Dodge process again (menu option under US DOL WHD, Page 4 of 5

5 Processes ). The system will then continue with the load operation to completion. Data loaded prior to the interruption will not be reloaded. Only the remaining (unloaded) data will be loaded to ASDS. Figure 10: Automatic Reset of the Survey Status after Dodge Data Load If an attempt is made to load another Dodge file to the survey, the following message will appear. The current procedure for loading Dodge data for ARRA surveys which require a single mailout (from Census) is the same as that followed for regular surveys requiring the support of a minimum of four mailouts. In the case of single mailout surveys, a dummy Dodge data file is used primarily for system/data configuration purposes. This load file contains only a single record with dummy project and contact information which serves as a generic file for all like surveys. When the dummy data file is loaded, the analyst may proceed as normal, loading new congressional and interested party data to support the survey. In addition, to prevent the mailout generation of the dummy data, the relationship between the dummy contact and dummy project data may be broken and the dummy project and dummy contact may be defined as unusable in the survey.
