Year 3/4 Key Skills to be covered, taken from Lancashire Key Learning Document pitching at the correct year group and differentiation within plan for different groups Be specific in the key skills, and make them more understandable for children. Consider what it is YOU feel the children should learn as well as the National Curriculum: We will acquire, save and retrieve images from cameras, scanners and the internet for a purpose. We will use paint and photo software to edit/change an image (including resizing and adding special effects) We will use print screen function We will use copy and paste We will select specific areas of an image, copy and paste to make repeating patterns. Possible Cross-curricular links, especially opportunities for English, Mathematics and Computing within teaching: English links Link to your English novel/ write instructions for how to transfer photos. Mathematics links Computing links Other links Symmetry n/a Link the work/project to any other subject you wish- Art- collage, English- Roald Dahl, History Saxons and Vikings, Science Health and Nutrition Possible Experiences including visits/visitors/other: Consider what could augment your planning to really enthuse the children in your class: Publish them- on website Make it into a competition for their final project design a mascot for computing at Trumacar- winner s design will be put on website/around school. Display/Resources ideas: Consider what resources could be brought into the classroom and what display work could be completed either before/during or after topic is taught: website

Session Key Objective from skills listed above (What is it that you want the children to learn?) Year 34 A3A Computing Medium term planner Graphics (Images Video and Animation) focus GRAPHICS Possible Activities including use of Computing and other technologies, and showing at least 3 differentiations Link the work/project to any other subject you wish- English- Roald Dahl, History Saxons and Vikings, Science Health and Nutrition 1 We will use print screen function We will use copy and paste From the internet Starter- cut and paste have chn heard of these computing terms? Can they explain. Give magazines challenge chn to cut and paste images and text physically in real life 5 mins. Where did the terms cut and paste come from? Why do we cut and paste images digitally and then print off rather than physically? (time, resources, can be reprinted, not wasting paper etc.) WALT use copy and paste functions Intro- graphics- what does it mean? Discuss with children activity that discusses types of graphics software Outcomes/Evidence of what they have learnt (Where will this be found? Will it be in a book? Topic book? Display? Photographic evidence? Saved publisher document with pasted images and print screens HA instructions how to paste. Possible extension into homework if appropriate to enhance and deepen learning Show someone at home how to copy, paste and use printscreen (Gran or Grandad maybe?). As part of a topic (History, science, art or English) make today s computing skills for a purpose. ONLINE SAFETY: recap looking safely online and the golden rule- tell and adult if you see something that makes you feel uncomfortable. Challenge- find an image of and copy and paste it into word (who can do that?) Model searching for information relevant to your topic could HA chn do this for you? Or elicit how from them Model using CTRL C and CTRL V to copy and paste images into publisher (also show right click and paste, NB you may need to use paste special in publisher) model using print screen (you will need to model using shift as some laptops need shift function for it to work) then pasting using CTRL V into publisher Challenge children to find, copy and paste images and to use print screen to save relevant web pages. LA- simple copy and paste with shortcuts with support MA- copy, paste and print screen independently using right click and shortcuts

HA- copy, paste and print screen using short cuts, right click and using paste special. HA write a guide for how to copy and paste in different ways including the different types of paste special. 2 We will acquire, save and retrieve images from cameras WALT transfer, save and retrieve images from devices Plenary- 5 min poster each child makes a quick poster titled How to copy and paste Starter: Give chn 5 mins to explore this graphics software- what can you do? Chn write a list of tips for how to use As part of your topic/link subject model taking and retrieving photos from ipads using transfer app for a purpose (like retelling a story you are doing in English, or a timeline for the Vikings) How to: Take photos on ipad Saved photos in folder in pupil shared area Show someone at home. Do they have an ipad/tablet they can have a go with? Open transfer app Follow instructions on transfer app e.g. open google chrome on laptop, type in address in web bar for example This will then connect to the photos Choose the ones to download Model making a new folder in pupil shared area and copying and pasting the images from downloads folder into the one you want (using copy and paste skills from last session) LA- use using transfer app have folder already made and support where necessary (steps on board to help) MA- use transfer app and make own folder HA as above and then challenge to find another way of transferring the photos- give them the ipad wire Extension- write instructions for how to do this. Plenary- play robot teacher or robot student as a class give exact instructions to take, transfer and save a photo- if they don t give specific enough instructions follow what they do literally (see this video on making a jam sandwich as an example 3 We will use paint and photo software to edit/change an image (including resizing and adding special effects) Starter: 5 mins How do you use the program? What can you do? Building on last time s learning how do you save the images you have made? Saved photos that have been edited Can you use fotoflexer.com at home to edit your photos? Can you find any other free photo editing software?

WALT edit images Year 34 A3A Computing Medium term planner Graphics (Images Video and Animation) focus GRAPHICS Using the photos we save last time: Double click on selected photo to open in photo gallery and then click esidt, organize or share to open editing software (you can select multiple photos to edit here HA- challenge to explore program on their own give them a list of functions they need to work out how to do (crop, resize, rotate, undo the last command, recolour and how to save their changes- what else can the program do?) Model how to make simple changes to MA/LA cropping, resizing, rotating, changing colour and saving in their folder. MA- do independently La- with support Plenary: go on fotoflexer.com as a class can we work out how to upload, edit and save a photo using what we have found out today? Let chn take turns to explore program. (could HA do this independently and share?) 4 We will select specific areas of an image, copy and paste to make repeating patterns Starter: 5mins- drawing app on ipads chn explore and compare to abcya or hello kids for last time- what is the same? What is different? Which would they recommend? (can you save and print from both easily?) Saved repeating pattern Can you use a program online or at home to make a repeating pattern- look at Andy Warhol s art WALT select areas of images to make repeating patterns Using the photos you have been editing or new images you search for online create a repeating pattern- could this be a boarder for a piece of work you are doing to give today s lesson purpose? Model using snipping tool (search for it) choose new and select an area of the image. This can then be copied, pasted and arranged into a border or pattern in publisher. You could alternate two selections of your image. LA- use snip to select an area of an image, copy and paste into publisher and make a repeating pattern- with support. MA- as above for two images HA- give them the choice of a different programme abcya or hello kids can they select using snip, copy, paste, edit and arrange into a pattern through exploring the program on their own? Plenary: 5 WALT use image edit skills to create a product. Starter: app on ipad videoscribe let chn explore app for 5min-s what can it do? How is it similar/ different from the graphics drawing apps we have used? - has a good step- by-step guide on the app. (animates photos or clip art images, you can record sound over) Save logos HR will choose winner just before half term Can you make a logo for your family?

Ask class what skills we have been learning: elicit taking, transferring photos, different ways to copy and paste, editing photos, using snip, using print screen. Set class a task: e.g. design a poster showing how Vikings live, how to make a circuit (electricity), how to stay healthy. Or design a logo for computing at Trumacar- using a variety of these skills. LA- design a simple logo using Search for and save and image Edit image with simple tools like crop Copy and paste image into publisher MA- design a logo using Search for and save a couple of images Edit images with tools like crop, resize, recolour, rotate Copy and paste images into publisher and rearrange Use snip to save your logo as an image HA design a logo using Choose program from publisher, abcya, hellokids that we have been looking at Search for and save several of images Edit images with tools like crop, resize, recolour, rotate Copy and paste image into publisher and rearrange Use snip to save your logo as an image Plenary- classroom gallery- on laptops chn view each other s logos finding one they can say something positive about and one they can give constructive criticism about. Share some comments 6 Apply these skills in other lessons
