McGuire, P.E., Sr. Vice President for Campbell & Paris Engineers, a small business Civil Engineering firm focusing on planning, design, and construction management for aviation related projects. Personally used AutoCAD since 1998 and we ve been adopting/developing a new work flow since 2010 which incorporates the use of Cyclone and Cloudworx into the 3D modeling design, planning and CM processes.

10 Imaginary Surfaces Become Easily Visible Approach surface (green) and transitional surface (blue) imported as 3D Faces. Utilize Cyclone to show stakeholders any perspective.
11 Property by Property Analysis of Impacts Obstructions typically involve residential and sensitive areas. Scans are a useful tool for explaining technical issues to a non-technical audience.
12 A New Level of Detail and Analysis Before and after imagery and discussions with specific quantifiable results.
13 The Days Before LIDAR Our Analysis Orthorectified imagery provides elevation accuracies to within +-5 vertical feet. Strictly a 2D presentation.
14 Combining Planning with Design in One Survey Planning surveys (aerial) typically are not conducted to the same tolerance requirements as design surveys using traditional methods.
15 Approach and Transitional Surface Analysis We used the same registered scan to perform an imaginary surface analysis as well as basis for the existing conditions model.
16 Detailed Data for Design Survey 3D meshes from paved surfaces, vertices, and 3D polylines COE Export into CAD model.
17 Internal Benefits Multiple offices may contribute to the final design each office receives a hard drive with the registered unified cleaned point cloud and panoramic images, supporting utility and drainage survey, as well as any geotechnical or pavement condition reports.
18 Near Future Wish List It s challenging to coordinate multiple people in one office working on a design simultaneously and difficult to quantify the inherent loss associated with overlap, changes, and individuals not working on the critical path. Detailed point clouds alleviate the necessity for site visits and CAD software is continuing to push the modeling vs drafting argument. CAD operators are becoming obsolete and experienced users take on the form of a one person wrecking crew. With high speed internet, web conferencing, instant messaging and staggering experienced engineers in three times zones can result in a 24 hour 5 day a week modeling effort.
