General Description the process of road design experienced a dramatic change throughout the nineties with implementation of engineering software use of GIS tools, BIM technology, design visualization solutions and teamwork on projects is becoming more widespread among engineers, architects and land planners

4 2. Aim of the Project is to demonstrate new technologies and their application in road design with specific examples from actual projects in Republic of Croatia

8 OVERVIEW OF THE SITUATION IN REPUBLIC OF CROATIA at the end of nineties specialized software for road design is used more often (such as Plateia from Slovenian CGS ) beginning of 21 st century brings a large road building momentum in the Republic of Croatia, which results with a substantial investment of engineering companies in modern software and training of engineers at that point, the most widespread software for road design is Bentley MX Road in Autodesk releases AutoCAD Civil 3D

25 CREATING A VISUALIZATION FROM DESIGN the practice of creating 3D visualization for projects in road construction has been around for many years mostly related to large projects, where the visualization was usually made by specialized firms upon completion of the project, usually as a part of promotional and presentation material

26 CREATING A VISUALIZATION FROM DESIGN 3D visualization is proven to be very useful during the design process, for conceptual designs as well as for main designs using visualization - possible to overview the project from different perspectives and to gain a better insight on the compliance of the route with the environment

43 4. Conclusions In recent years there is a significant step forward in use of new technologies, further enhancement and expansion of road design software capabilities. Design companies should generate an additional effort to train designers and engineers to establish their own system by implementing new technologies and new software in their working environment.

44 4. Conclusions Implementation of new technologies is always complex, expensive and demanding process, but it provides possibilities to apprehend modern trends and enables permanent progress.
