1 Web of Science provides access to current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from approximately 8,700 of the most prestigious, high impact research journals in the world. Web of Science also provides a unique search method, cited reference searching. With it, users can navigate forward, backward, and through the literature, searching all disciplines and time spans to uncover all the information relevant to their research. 2 Subscription and Licensing terms 1. The agreement is in two parts a. Part one covers the renewal of the Web of Science agreement. b. Part two covers Backfiles of databases that the JISC has licensed in perpetuity and for which there will be no charge to institutions. 2. In order to receive access to both the current data and the backfiles institutions will need to complete TWO Sub-Licence Agreement Forms, one for each element. 3. This is a 3 year agreement with the option to subscribe for a further two years at the guaranteed subscription fees detailed below. However the agreement for the Backfiles is a perpetual agreement. 4. 5 The evaluation process consists of evaluation of many criteria such as, Basic Journal Publishing Standards (including Timeliness of publication, adherence to International Editorial Conventions, English Language Bibliographic Information (including English article titles, keywords, author abstracts, and cited references.) ISI also examines the journal's Editorial Content, the International Diversity of it authors and editors. Citation Analysis using ISI data is applied to determine the journal's citation history and/or the citation history of its authors and editors.

6 Functionality and Standards Compliance Full Text Linking: The linkage service provides links between ISI Web of Knowledge resources and electronic full text, there is no fee for using the linkage service. Links can be made available for those electronic titles that your Institution has access to and where there is a Links agreement in place between Thomson Scientific and the journal publisher. Further information regarding links to full text can be found at To susbcribe to this free linkage service or to amend an existing journal set please first check that links agreements are in place between the journal publisher and Thomson Scientific using the ISI Links Master Journal List, if there are agreements in place for the titles please forward details to the helpdesk at wok@mimas.ac.uk (indicating start and end dates where nescessary). Holdings Service The ISI Web of Knowledge Holdings Service (free option) provides three central benefits: -Links to Paper Journals -The Holdings Service allows you to link from a certain Web of Knowledge product records e.g. WoS, ISI Proceedings, through to your institution's -library catalogue. This allows users to locate the paper copy of journals that they cannot access online. -Links through to additional online journals -Holdings potentially provides a link to electronic journals not currently the subject of an agreement between Thomson Scientific and the publisher concerned. -Alternative route to electronic journals -Holdings provides an alternate route to access the electronic version of journals which may be of use to your users. Search Options: Cross-searching across Web of Knowledge resources. and additional freely available external collections such as Agricola, POPLINE. Citation searching, cited reference searching. Refine and mine information using Analyse tool. Federated Searching: The Web of Knowledge platform includes proprietary meta-search technology that allows a user to send a query to one or more selected databases. The technology searches across all Web of Knowledge databases and twelve publicly available Web databases. Search results for the freely available Web databases are accessible in their own page. The results list links the user to the record in the native application. The Web of Knowledge platform also includes a platform and programming independent XML Web Services gateway that returns XML via standard HTTP and SOAP protocols and formats. Post Search Options: Web of Science allows exporting to reference management tools such as Endnote, direct from the results summary page. Users can results, set up alerts and save/load searches.
