The new generation of highly efficient and costeffective fibre, disc and diode lasers will challenge the CO 2 laser s predominance in the cutting market. 3 Optical System Being Perfectly Focused One the most determining factors of the cut quality achieved by a laser cutting head is the generation of an aberration free laser beam. The modular optical system of the BIMO-FSC consists of the optical collimation system and optical focusing system. Both optical systems are individually corrected to even image single mode laser beams with diffraction limited quality. The optical systems can be selected for fibre and disc or diode lasers. The focus position can be located on the work piece with an easy to use x, y, z alignment in a cartridge assembly. This cartridge can be exchanged as a whole for quickly adapting the cutting head to different focus diameters or applications. The focus lens system is held in an exchangeable lens mounting tube which allows the use to change the optics elements with no risk of failure due to handling.
