Introduction TelVue Virtual Television Network s WEB Updating System (WEBUS TM ) is a web-based application that enables the user to create and publish messages on local access television channels. The application is geared towards community, public, education and government organizations as well as college campuses and dorms, retail stores, retirement homes, retirement communities, corporate businesses, casinos, hotels or any entity that has a dedicated video network under its control. Because WEBUS TM is accessible via the internet, hometown programmers can update, alter and submit information on demand at any time and from anywhere. A server/storage device, called a player, receives and stores messages and connects to the video channel for airing the content. This document explains how to use WEBUS TM version 2.3, including: Logging in Reviewing and modifying your user information Reviewing WEBUS TM computer system requirements Adding, editing and moderating messages Publishing messages 2005 TelVue Virtual Television Networks 3

Logging In 1. To log into the WEBUS TM application, open your web browser and type in the Address or Location field and press Enter. 2. At the Welcome screen, type your username and password, then click the Login button. Your password is case sensitive, so be careful to use capitalization where appropriate. (If you cannot remember your username or password, you should contact TVTN s support personnel.) The WEBUS TM application takes you by default to the Messages screen. 3. At the top of the screen is a message indicating the name under which you are logged in. If this is not your username, clicking on the link That s not me logs this user out and allows you to begin the login process again. Note: You will see only messages for your client(s). You will not see messages for other users clients TelVue Virtual Television Networks 4

WEBUS TM Screens The Messages screen shown above is a typical WEBUS TM screen for a client user. Each screen features a navigation bar on the left-hand side and the functionality you select from the navigation bar in the main part of the screen. In the screen above, the My Messages tab is selected and the Messages screen appears in the main part of the screen. The navigation bar functionality includes: My Information About WEBUS TM WEBUS TM Requirements Logout Messages Publishing Each of these is detailed in the sections below TelVue Virtual Television Networks 5

My Information In the My Information screen, you can see the username assigned to you, as well as your first and last names and address. You can update your name and address, but not your username. 1. To change your first name, last name or address, select the appropriate field by using your mouse to click at the beginning of the text box. While holding down the left mouse button, move the mouse s cursor to the right to highlight the entire contents of the chosen field. 2. Type the new information for that field. If you are entering an address, please remember to include the domain name. Your address should be in the format of address@domainname.com. 3. When you have finished, click on the Save button to save your changes. The screen will refresh and tell you that your information has been saved TelVue Virtual Television Networks 6

About WEBUS TM The About WEBUS TM screen tells you information about the WEBUS TM application, including: The current time on the server. The version of WEBUS TM that you are using. Version numbers and modification dates and times for WEBUS TM components. The Error Mode being used for your WEBUS TM session TelVue Virtual Television Networks 7

WEBUS TM Requirements The WEBUS TM Requirements screen displays information about the requirements WEBUS TM needs your computer to have or settings it needs in order to function properly. When you log into WEBUS TM and click on About WEBUS TM on the navigation bar, the application automatically checks your computer system to see if all of its requirements are met. The information this screen displays includes: The operating systems under which WEBUS TM will run. The internet browsers (and their version numbers, if applicable) that you can use to access WEBUS TM. If your computer has Javascript and it is enabled. (Javascript is a programming language that WEBUS TM uses for some of its components.) WEBUS TM also runs a test for Windows XP users when you click on About WEBUS TM on the navigation bar to see if your web browser is blocking pop-up windows. WEBUS TM uses pop-up windows to display message previews, so your browser must be set to allow them. Note: Other sources, such as MSN, Yahoo! and Google toolbars may still block pop-up windows. You will need to disable the features on such services that block pop-up windows. The Suggested Settings section provides the screen resolution and color depth settings that work best for WEBUS TM and what these settings are on your computer system TelVue Virtual Television Networks 8

Messages The My Messages tab of the Messages screen, the default screen for a client user (shown below), displays information about messages that already have been created, including the name, type, the user who created or moderated the message, the number of pages in the message, details about the message, moderation for the message, the status for the message and if it is currently playing or not. These are messages that the client user owns. Other messages that the client user can see are filed under the tabs for Active, Inactive, Emergency and All Messages. 34 Determining the Status of a Message There are two items that tell you the status of a message. Both are located on the Messages main screen. The first is the Status column, which tells you what state the message is in. The status for a message can be: Deleted A message with a status of Deleted means that the page was active in the past, but was marked deleted. Once the user publishes his or her changes, the message will disappear from the list. Until the user publishes changes, the message will remain with the Deleted status. Previews are not available on messages with this status. Locked A status of Locked means the message has been denied or had its ownership taken over by a moderator or that a user has not published the message yet. My Draft This indicates that the message has been created but has not been published. This status appears only to the user who created the message; all others will see a status of Locked. Pending Pending means the message has been created and is awaiting a moderator s review and approval or denial. Published Once the status is set to Published, this means the message has been finalized and is playing. Queued This indicates a message is in the process of being sent to the database. Once it is posted, the status changes to Pending. The second item that tells you a status for a message is the Playing column. A message is either playing which is indicated by the green Y ( ) symbol or is not playing indicated by the red N ( ) or gray N ( ) symbols. If the user sees the red N ( ) symbol, holding the mouse cursor over the symbol will display a pop-up message that explains the reason the message is not playing because the message schedule has expired. If the user sees the gray N ( ) symbol, typically it is because the message is not published. Clicking on the green Y ( ) or the red N ( ) symbol (but not the gray N ( ) symbol) will display a preview of the message. To preview a message with a gray N ( ) symbol in the Playing column, you would click the green P ( ) symbol in the Details column TelVue Virtual Television Networks 34

Message Schedules Message schedules enable a client user to indicate when to play a message. They do not replace start and end dates, they just schedule the message to play within a certain timeframe on specified days of the week. 36 Publishing Messages Publishing a message means to have WEBUS TM send a finalized web message to the television or video output player. 1. To publish a message, either click on Go To Publishing button at the bottom of the Messages screen or on the Publishing link on the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the screen. The screen refreshes, showing you the list of current publishing jobs or items waiting to be published, as shown in the picture below. 2. Click on the Publish button to publish all of the items in the list or click in the checkbox in the Select column to remove a checkmark from the checkbox to keep that message from being published. A message displays, shown in the picture below, that tells you which messages were published. Click on the Publishing, My Publish History or Messages button to go to that respective screen if you are done. If you wish to see details about a specific message, move onto the next step of this procedure TelVue Virtual Television Networks 36

3. To see specific information about a draft, click in the checkbox under Select (if it is not already selected) and then click on the View Job button. Click on the Return button to go back to the My Drafts screen. 4. To see a list of messages you have published, click on the My Publish History in the navigation bar. A list of jobs you have published displays for the current date under the By Date tab when you click on the Get Publish History button, including the publish job ID, the queue date and time, and the date and time the job was published. 5. To see details about a specific publishing job, click on the Publish Job ID link. Click on the Return button when you are done. 6. To see your publishing history for another date, use the pull-down calendar at the top of the screen and click on the Get Publish History button. 7. To see a list of all of the jobs you have published, click on the All Publish Jobs tab at the top of the My Publish History screen. 8. To see details about a specific publishing job, click on the Publish Job ID link. 9. You can refresh this list by clicking on the Refresh List button TelVue Virtual Television Networks 37

Logging Out 1. To log out of the WEBUS TM application, click on Logout in the navigation bar on the lefthand side of the WEBUS TM screen. The screen refreshes, displaying the Welcome screen, enabling you to log in again if you wish, if you do not have unpublished changes. 2. If you have unpublished changes, you will be advised that logging out without publishing will not send updates to the player and your saved drafts will be available for publishing when you next log in. To see a list of drafts awaiting publishing, click on the View Publishing button. The screen refreshes and shows you your current publishing jobs. To exit without reviewing the current publishing jobs, click on the Yes, Logout button. The screen refreshes, displaying the Welcome screen, enabling you to log in again TelVue Virtual Television Networks 38
