No student is permitted to leave the studio without prior consent, 4. Bullying and harassment are serious issues and will not be tolerated in any form. If you re not sure what this entails, please consult your handbook. 5. There is no excuse for late work. Due dates are not negotiable. 6. School trips, outside shoots and any other Chartertech sanctioned events are no excuse for not handing in work in this or any other class. It is your job to make up what is missed. 7. Class participation, using time efficiently, and professional work ethics, working with others; are all part of your grade. If you are sitting around talking, not on
4 task, etc., you are probably not going to do well. For example. The Portfolio Project is a yearlong project and can be worked on during any lull period. 8. PC/Mac/laptop use NO INTERNET USE THAT IS NOT DIRECTLY USED FOR PROJECTS OR CLASS WORK. Failure to do so may result in loss of computer use. 9. All laptop screens must be facing the teacher, or the front of the room at all times. 10. Hats nothing must cover the crown of the head. No arguments, no discussion, simple discipline referral. 11. Cell phones Not turned on and NOT SEEN EVEN IF OFF. No arguments, no discussion, simple discipline referral. 12. Studio phone NO phone calls. Sign out and go to the office to phone home. 13. No visitors if they are not in this department and block and are not preapproved to do work, they are not welcome in the studio. Film and Animation Department Rules and Procedures Note: The following rules are stricter than most high school (and some college) film classes. The reason is that we take filmmaking very seriously in the department. Our goal is to have our artists produce films and media to eventually compete in the industry. Artists using unethical practices and materials could be subject to lawsuits, along with having highly unmarketable products. Any film, animation or media product produced using CHARTERTECH S cameras, computers or resources are the property of CHARTERTECH. NO COPYWRITTEN MUSIC OR SONGS ARE TO BE EMPLOYED IN THE FILM OR PROJECT. One exception would be if the artist produces a letter from the artist of the song, giving permission. Note: The Instrumental Department and artists can provide original music for your production. The departments recommend that you take advantage of this great resource. We have access to a big library of copyright free music in all primary genres. NO FILMS OR PROJECTS BASED ON COPYWRITTEN PROPERTIES. (example, Harry Potter, Spiderman, Star Wars, etc.) DIRECT PARODY FILMS OR PROJECTS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED. The Film and Animation Departments suggests you spend your time creating your characters and situations. It is wise to have original "stand alone" stories, which are not linked to existing movies, TV shows, video games, etc. It also makes your films more original and marketable. NO CURSING OR PROFANITY. If a film or project is turned in with cursing or profanity, even if it is bleeped, the student and group responsible will receive a zero for the project. NO GRAPHIC CONTENT. (Extreme violence, sexual content or drug use). We understand in certain cases; limited graphic content could be used to illustrate a point in a socially redeemable film (example: an anti-drug movie). In that case, the concept must be discussed with Mr. Roehm Mr. Gates and Mr. Warren. If approved, the teachers must approve the script and subject matter, before any pre-production or filming is to occur.
5 PLEASE REMEMBER, YOUR FILMS ARE NOT JUST REPRESENTING YOURSELF, THEY ARE REPRESENTING THE DEPARTMENT, THE SCHOOL, AND THE COMMUNITY. For some people, the only image of the school they will have is through our films. In the past, we have had some experience with audience members having wildly different reactions than what the filmmaker intended. When creating a movie, keep in mind how other people will see this. Are you portraying yourself (the departments, the school, etc.) in a positive light? Remember that some of the films you like to make with your friends on your own may not be appropriate when connected to the department. ALL ARTISTS, ACTORS, AND CREW PARTICIPATING IN THE FILM MUST BE LISTED IN THE CREDITS. No nicknames, name-calling or insults concerning actors, crew members, artists, teachers, etc. are to be listed in the credits. ALL FILMS AND MEDIA CREATED IN THE FILM AND ANIMATION DEPARTMENTS MUST RECEIVE PERMISSION FROM ROEHM, WARREN, GATES, AND ALL CREW AND CAST MEMBERS BEFORE BEING UPLOADED ON YOUTUBE OR ANY OTHER ONLINE MEDIA SITES. Note: If you are an actor or crew member, and you have a general objection to being on film, in photographs and/or the internet, please contact Mr. Roehm, Mr. Gates and Mr. Warren before the project starts, so we can ensure that you are not included visually or verbally in the film or media. NO GUNS OR GUN USE IN ANY DEPARTMENT FILM. Possession of any weapon in school for any reason will result in a suspension or a possible school expulsion (see the school rulebook for more details). ATTENDANCE TO BOTH SHOWCASES (WINTER AND SPRING) IS MANDATORY FOR ALL DEPARTMENT MEMBERS. January 25th, 2017 and May 31st, 2017 ALL ARTISTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A TEACHER PRESENT WHEN FILMING INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL, DURING SCHOOL HOURS. EQUIPMENT FORMS MUST be given to THE EQUIPMENT MANAGER 48 HOURS BEFORE FILMING TO RESERVE the material. Failure to do so may result in no equipment for that date. THE ABOVE RULES ALSO APPLY FOR ANY FILMS OR PROJECTS CREATED BY MEMBERS OF THE FILM AND ANIMATION DEPARTMENTS FOR ANY OTHER CLASS (EXAMPLE: HISTORY AND ENGLISH FILM PROJECTS). Note: In special cases, Mr. Roehm, Mr. Gates, and Mr. Warren have the rights to waive one or some of the above rules for an individual film, if they feel that the quality of the work and content is exceptional and has a socially redeeming value.
